General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread

Did people miss this? It’s kind of slight, but it’s a series of animated shorts, featuring the actresses reprising their roles, that’ll be put on Youtube and then as a TV special:

I imagine it’ll probably be aimed at young audiences and they are really short (2-3 minutes) but it’s still a cool little concept.

The toys they are putting out are terrifying. Don’t look for the Chewbacca one if you value your sanity.

Celebration 2017 Speculation
Time

From what I saw I prefer the Grindhouse versions. I really like the filmness of them, if you know what I mean. I’m just pissed off and not having a good day/week/month/year due to a family member slowly fading and Star Wars is one of the few things I still get any joy from.

The Carrie Fisher tribute was nice. I wonder how many meetings there were to find a joke of her’s clean enough for all audiences.

I’m pretty sure there’s more bonus material for the prequels in the complete saga Blu Ray set

That could be a matter of them being made in the DVD age where special features are planned for. That didn’t exist in 1977-1983.

Do the fans who really like the PT care about the other cuts? Aren’t they usually the ones who prefer the SEs, or whatever Lucas’ vision is this week?

How to turn the Phantom Menace into the Phenomenal Menace
Time

The biggest problem I have with TPM and the Prequels in general is Obi-Wan and Anakin’s friendship was pushed aside and not addressed then suddenly we were supposed to care when Anakin turned dark. Obi-Wan really should have been in the Qui-Gon role like the rough draft. Then you could devote time to their friendship in the first film. It would help to make Anakin 20 or so so they really could be brothers.

Instead of Battle Droids, have the Trade Federation hire and use Madalorian Super Commandos with Destroyer Droid back ups. No stupid cute Roger, Roger shit.

Spend 5 minutes and explain why the Sith were thought to be extinct and why they hate the Jedi. Its in the novelization and would make a pretty good scene to have Obi-Wan explain the conflict and their demise of a thousand years ago. Kind a call back to him telling Luke about the fall of the Republic and the betrayal of Vader, but without the retconned lying.

I do wish Maul had continued as the main villain and taken Dooku and Grievous’ place. You can still have him get cut in half and his return in Attack of the Clones would have been a shock to Obi-Wan and it would make sense Kenobi would be the one to track him down and eventually end him on Utapau.

Should the Prequels be more included into the franchise going forward?

I quite like how the prequels were included in Rogue One. There were a few subtle callbacks like the Turbo Tank and Coruscant that didn’t really affect the story, but they were nice to see if you wanted a more cohesive/connected universe, and they were easily ignorable if you hate the prequels. Other callbacks to the era like Saw Gerrera, Bail Organa and so on all made sense within the context of the story.

I loved how they made the bigget PT era character (Saw) an insane mess who had a crappy CGI pet. Very meta.

1999-2012 were so PT heavy that the pendulum has swung the other way. Had Lucas not sold the company, the PT bias would still exist.

It’s also over explaining why he isn’t in Star Wars. (Or the end of ROTS.) It’s logical to presume he simply passed away in the intervening years.

How about he died from an infection in his leg due to bad medical treatment and a general apathy from losing his wife? He stopped caring for himself. That way he technically died from a broken heart, but its not Lucas level stupid.

As for the Prequels, they happend but Disney should focus on the good aspects of Star Wars going forward. No Hayden in The Last Jedi, though if he was in it and say the movie only did 1.2 billion they could blame it on him and you would never see a major PT reference in a Star Wars movie again.
