Star Wars 3-D?
Time

Well, at least we know that it isn't likely for the 30th anniversary. Improved special effects techniques, powerhouse stars, 3-D technology, and audiences still aren't packing in. Perhaps you should try making good movies? Just a thought. Lucas and Rick appear to be in this together.

They don't even have to make good movies. Make the atmosphere better and I'll start going again. Kick people out when their phone rings. Offer assigned seating. Start the movie at the time you say it starts (not 20 mins later after the damn ads). Remove the ads (I payed to see the movie, not the ads). Aside from the ads, the only place around here that does all that (and has a no kids policy) is the ArcLight. I'd go there, but it's all the way up in Hollywood (I'm in Orange County). I wouldn't mind paying $15 per ticket, but the gas and time it takes are what kills the idea now. If there was a theater like that within a 15 min drive, I'd go in a heartbeat.

Good movies obviously help, but I haven't been to a movie since Serenity (which I loved). I use to go to midnight showings all the time. It was the only place where you could gaurantee that everyone would turn off their cell phones, not bring crying children (the babies that were brought would always sleep through the movie without making a sound), and not talk or yell at the screen. The only thing missing was assigned seating, but even that wasn't a big problem with the size of the theater (and I didn't mind getting there early to wait in line for a good spot). Since getting married and having a pregnant wife at home that has to work at 7am, that hasn't been an option anymore (Ep 3 was the last time and I made special arrangements to sleep at a friends near the theater).

Depending on what theater we go to, I can almost gaurantee that someones phone will ring, which completely ruins the experience for me.

I honestly hope they never get this technology going in wide use and I hope theater attendance continues to drop. I'll still buy the movies on DVD, so I'll get a lot more value for my money (no annoying cell phones, pause for the bathroom, rewind to hear that line I missed, etc, etc).

As always. The year after AOTC came out, someone got up and asked "Why was it called Attack of the Clones when the Clones weren't really attacking until the end?" You could tell Steve was exasperated by the question "Because Star Wars is fun and blah blah blah" (the blah blah blah is mine ).

I saw the video of the game footage online. It seems like everyone can do Jedi the way they were
originally described (like OT) except George himself. They went from being a well respected force to be rechoned with, to a bunch of weak diplomatic politicians.

Star Wars 3-D?
Time
So I thought special glasses weren't necessary for this new 3-D technology? According to an article over on starwars.com, wireless glasses (along with a laundry list of other items) are required.

"George and Rick are really excited about the technology they have seen in 3-D... they showed about 10 minutes of Star Wars at a trade industry show about a year ago, and there was a lot of great buzz. Well, a couple of things have turned out. You have to look at the business plan: When does it make sense to do something like that? And you need thousands of digital screen theaters. It does not work on a film projector... This may be the thing that is finally going to force a lot of theater chains to bring in digital projectors at least for one of their screens... A lot of theater chains have announced they are going ahead. That said, how long is it going to take to get three- to four- to five thousand theaters digitally converted? It's not going to happen this year. It's not going to happen by the end of next year. In addition, the process to do the movie turns out to be a little more expensive than initially thought. So you have the theaters converting, you have the costs of converting one or all of the six Star Wars movies into 3-D, and you have the fact that the technology involves wireless battery-operated glasses that blink maybe a thousand times a second; it's not like a read and blue lens. So you have to take all those factors into consideration. I think Lucasfilm is still very interested in releasing the saga in 3-D. I think it's really just a matter of time, but I don't think it's going to be in the next couple of years."

So with theater attendance down, they're expecting movie theaters to make this huge investment in a new technology? I just don't see why they'd make the investment in this when a lot of theaters still haven't made the jump to digital. Not to mention that I can just see a lot of wireless goggles disappearing after every viewing, just like the special glasses at Disneyland disappear. I hope those glasses are cheap or have some kind of tracking technology. I don't think a theater would like to lose several pair after each viewing.

I think a lot more people than just the "stereotypes" are going to start hating him. ComicCon isn't just for the stereotypical sci-fi geek anymore. It's becoming a pop culture phenomenon that everybody goes to. If it wasn't, the line on Saturday wouldn't have been 4 hours long with the convention center reaching capacity. It has surpassed being a strictly sci-fi and comic book convention and become a launching point for all types of media coming out of Hollywood and the comics industry.

To top it off, they were handing out buttons saying "HAN SHOOTS FIRST...Sept. 12, 2006" Nothing like taking an insult, turning it around and capitalizing off of it.

Of course he didn't say anything new. He never does. He regurgitates everything that's online. But I swear the majority of the people in that room do not have Internet access. Everytime I go to his "spectacular" it's the same crap that's been online for months. The only thing they unveiled this year was the 30th anniversary logo and the logo for Celebration IV (which turned out to be VERY close to a logo someone in the Rebel Legion designed for Celebration IV). Then when Q&A starts, you get the same STOOPID questions everytime (assuming they even had a Q&A).

I actually didn't even make it this year and I found that I missed absolutely nothing. I think the one time they unveiled something "earth shattering" was two years ago when they announced the title for Episode 3. But I think even a well educated guess could've seen it coming (a friend of mine even said he had a bad feeling it was going to be ROTS since it was so close to the original ROTJ). Of course, everything they showed and talked about was online before the convention even ended, so there wasn't a need to see it there anyway.

And the whole "Han shoots first" thing is actually just plain wrong. A friend of mine pointed it out "Han shot ONLY!". That's right. He wasn't first, he was the ONLY shot. There can be no first if there is no second.

News on the TV Series if Anyone Cares.
Time
I'll watch it. Then again, I actually liked the Clone Wars series. I was hoping GL would keep his hands off it (things seem better when he's not actively involved), but I guess I'll just have to pray that he doesn't totally screw it up like everything else. I won't be paying for it, so the only thing I'll really be losing is my time and that's only if I just sit and watch it. I can always clean the house while it's on

You didn't miss it. As far as I'm aware, it was never put up on MySpleen. I've taken the liberty of creating a torrent and putting it up on Demonoid. I'm seeding it now. I hope ADM doesn't mind. I figured with the amount of edits I've pulled off usenet and the spleen, this was the last I could do. I didn't create an nfo file or anything for it, since I don't know much in the way of technical details. If I need to put one in, I'll gladly do it if I'm given the details necessary. Of course, if ADM does mind and wants it removed, just let me know and I'll remove it right away.

I usually never close a torrent until I get to the 1/1 ratio beside software I need quick or divx. If I really believe in what I'm dnloading (like for those Star Wars dvds) I go for 1/5 or something if not much people are dnloading, I share over 1 to 2 weeks after I have completed the file. I'm using Azurus and after a while my computer become so slow that I have to reboot. And I hate to reboot my computer. If it wasnt the case I would be very please to share forever.

I share everything 1:2 and sometimes 1:3 (or even higher). Also, I have no problem reseeding something months after I've stopped seeding it. I usually have to recreate the files (if it was originally an iso), otherwise, I just copy everything back to the hard drive and start seeding.

I don't see the ADM Clone Wars DVD anywhere on the spleen, otherwise I'd seed it. I did start seeding bh007 though.

On a related note, is there any chance some kind individual(s) could seed bh005 and DF002? I just noticed that I never picked up DF002, so if no one wants to seed (I just started it, so it'll take a while to get if it's seeded) I'll see if I can get it via trade or something.

Cheers!

And if I can ever find and install photoshop again after my HD crash, I'd love to attempt a disc label.

That's what I thought it was suppose to be for. I kept expecting to see additional subtitles or here an overdub ala MST3K. Still pretty neat

Lord of the Rings - FOTR - The Book-Cut (Released)
Time
I used that dgpulldown program to make the book cut 2 mpg a DVD compliant mpg, but now I'm trying to figure out how to burn it to a DVD. What program do you guys use to author the disk? I'm trying Ulead DVD Workshop 2 right now, but I get the feeling it's reencoding the video and I don't want to do that (it may not be, it just seems like it is). Any programs you guys can recommend?

Idea: Lord Of The Rings trilogy edit...

Surprisingly enough, I rewatched all the extended versions of these movies this week. The first two times I watched them I thought they were great. This time, however, all I could think while sitting there was, that Peter Jackson and his wife are really shitty screenwriters. Take, for example, the missing scourging of the shire. Apparently this wasn't in the movie because Jackson didn't like it in the book. So apparently, he thinks he could write a better ending than Tolkien. If they ever film The Hobbit they should really let someone else do the script.
What are you talking about? They did an amazing job adapting the books (well, I personally didn't care for the liberties they took with TTT, but...). And they didn't try to "write a better ending than Tolkien." It's the same ending, they just omit the Scouring.

With all the people bitching about the how long the ending of ROTK is, they probably made the right choice.

I think they did an amazing job of adapting FOTR. After watching the commentary of TTT and ROTK and continually hearing "We decided to change this" (for TTT) and "Since we changed this in TTT we had to do this differently" (for ROTK), I got tired of it. I kept thinking "and if you hadn't have changed it here, you wouldn't have had to change it there". They nearly did the same thing in FOTR (if you listen to the commentary, they mention wanting to change a lot), but they decided not to because "it just worked better". Duh!

Aside from that, I agree about the people that bitched about the ending. I know someone who did exactly that. "End already!" is what he said about it. I was like "Did you read the book? It's exactly the same!"

I think on the commentary of ROTK they even mention that if they had released all 3 movies at once, they would have stayed much closer to the book since you'd be watching them all in one sitting. I certainly wouldn't have minded that given an intermission (which is what was done on Trilogy Tuesday).
