Firefly Pilot & Halloween II! in HD (Released)
Time

On the 24th of September, Universal HD will be screening the first half of the Firefly pilot (called “Serenity” - not to be confused with the movie) and at about 1.30am will be screening Halloween II.

I want to make this clear: I am not asking anyone to cap these and post them, as I understand that because these titles are available commercially we aren’t allowed to share them around. However, I was hoping that somebody here who watches HDTV and knows about this channel might be able to tell me if these 2 shows will be presented in their original aspect ratio. I’d just love to see some of Firefly and Halloween II in high definition. Halloween II would be especially cool if it’s not an upscaling as the DVD is nothing to write home about.

I don’t think that asking the above question is breaking the forum rules, however, if the mods decide this discussion is inappropriate I will edit my post.

FanFiltration of the Planet of the Apes RELEASE THREAD (cancelled project - official product released)
Time
I've not yet bought the DVDs, I was waiting for anamorphic versions and I'm now deciding whether to shell out AU$170 on the head (reduced from AU$300). I have almost all of the official releases of the scores to the films and the tv series. In short, I am an apes fan. I can't wait to get this somehow. Of course I'll be sure to get it after I've purchased retail copies of the films.

Sergio Leone Preservations - Dollars Trilogy, Fistful of Dynamite, Once Upon a Time in the West (Released)
Time
I am sure that this thread has discussed the special edition DVDs that were released in the UK last year. In fact I believe that many of the Americans here were wondering why Region 1 hadn't been graced with them. Well, here's a verbatim quote from The Digital Bits...

What's more, MGM also confirmed with me that they're finally planning Region 1 versions of those three Sergio Leone DVD special editions that were released last year in the U.K. (A Fistful of Dollars, A Fistful of Dynamite and For a Few Dollars More) sometime in 2007, also to be distributed by Fox. Don't that just beat all?

FAN EDIT REQUEST THREAD - Post your dream Fan Edits Here!
Time
If you do a search for 'isolated' you should find a thread I started a while ago asking forum members which isolated scores they'd like to see. It was sort of like this thread in a way.

I am currently doing a Ghostbusters isolated score track for a Ghostbusters fan project here on the forum. This is my first one; the inferior separation on the 5.1 mix, the crappy edits, substitutions and tracked music made it a hard one to start with. I would like to do many others for myself in the future - starting with The Omen once I get my hands on the new R1 Special Edition. I'd also like to do the Halloween films as I have all the scores for those films on CD.

I must warn you though: make sure that if you are going to trade for promo/oop scores that the other party is giving you a direct copy of the original pressed CD/CD-R or is burning your disc from a CD image file/FLAC files on the computer. I have been ripped off many times by inexperienced traders who make copies of copies of copies of copies (there is degradation this way).

Yes, but I don't think we ever got an official domestic release - and i'm pretty sure australia didn't either.

You're from Australia, boris? I can say that yes, that's true. While the Theatrical version of E.T. was released alongside the digitally altered version, Australia didn't get it at all. I think the R1 giftset was the only way to get the theatrical version? In any case, I applaud Spielberg for making the original available when he released the altered version. I still need to track down a copy for myself though.

On the note of Indiana Jones; boris, I can understand your stance that movies should be released as they were originally presented. If the filmmaker wants to 'fix up' effects or 'fudge' with the film then he has every right to. However, they should also make them film available in a version as close as possible to the original theatrical version. I say 'as close as possible' because just transferring the film from celluloid to digital causes minute changes, remastering/restoring causing even more.

Back to Indiana Jones specifically; boris, you might want to track down a copy of the HDTV version of Raiders/Doom (not sure which one it was) that was discussed on these boards a few weeks ago. It contains the pre-"Lowry Digital restoration" version, so its the original version.

Ghostbusters: We're Ready to Believe You (* unfinished project *)
Time
Perhaps, it's me that's causing this to be delayed? I haven't heard from any of the people involved for a little while - however perhaps the fact that I've yet to finish my isolated score track could have something to do with the 'creator/s' not posting? I'm actually working in Audition on the track as we speak. I'm sorry real life has slowed my work on this.

**Winners posted** Sluggo's Summer Photoshop PiF Contest
Time
I had the resources to do one of these but I've been busy with going back to uni. However, I was skimming through my hi-res posters and the idea below came to me. I know it's not the best, but eh. I had a corny tagline to the effect of "This is the story before his redemption... this is where Anakin begins..." but it just didn't work well enough. I'd love to see someone try and flesh out my first unattempted idea. I wanted to see if I could work up a poster for a movie that Luke Skywalker would have made about his adventures. Anyone thinks of a way to do that - go right ahead! I just want to see it happen.

I doubt I'll win anything but I just want to congratulate everyone else on their pieces. While some of the entries aren't superb examples of photoshop mastery, it's the idea that counts and I've seen a lot of clever ones so far (my favorites are "The Exorsith" and "Snakes on an X-Wing").

Anyone want to preserve The Compleat Al? (A Mockumentary about Weird Al) (Released)
Time
I wanted to ask about Al preservation a little while back. This is awesome! I'd love to see The Compleat Al on DVD.

I was wondering if I could present some info and ask for a favor; AL-TV #1 (2 DVD-Rs), AL-TV #7 (1 DVD-R), Weird Al Behind the Music & Driven (1 DVD-R) are on Demonoid at the moment. If any of you guys manage to get these I am definitely willing to do what I have to in order to get copies from you. I wish I didn't have a crappy 12GB limit each month! I also wish I'd mentioned this sooner as it seems like the seeds are dying off now. However the 3 above torrents are well worth getting. Please somebody grab them (AL-TV #1 even includes vintage commercials).

A few months ago I would've suggested the Weird Al Show too, but that's coming to DVD and I'll be happy to pick it up. I can't believe it's being released here in Australia when they didn't even bother giving us the movie; UHF.

ocp, could you possibly give an up-to-date list of the 'complete collection', listing any discs that have been revised? It'd just be nice to know what's available as my girlfriend has become quite interested in the project so I'll probably be getting all the discs from you at some point in the future.
