I was watching over the scene where Luke was raising the X-Wing out of the ocean… are there any plans to change the use of Yoda’s theme?

Like, I get what they were trying to do and The Force Suite is really overused in Star Wars, but it was Luke’s Original theme and it may suit better for that specific scene.

My big problem with this whole idea is that it absolutely kills the fight scene. The big battle just screeches to a halt for a lengthy hallucination dream dialog where Kylo mid-combat is suddenly talked out of being evil with the same converaation that failed to work on him last time, and then just as suddenly unpauses again for more violence. It doesn’t flow well at all as a scene (scenes?), and imo make Kylo’s turn less believable because of how sudden it is in the middle of an unrelated event (in the original he has a near-death experience, and his mother’s death, and a last pleading by Rey, before then having some time to think about his life and make the decision). That’s what I was kind of thinking while making it… I remember in the theater that this was one of the moments that really hit for me… also in the scene he mentions that his mother was gone, but obviously she wasn’t quite gone yet lol.

Here is a mock-up I did of the Leia-Ben-Han scene. I’m in the middle on what to do so I thought I’d make this to see what the scene would look like. It’s better in some ways, but the dialogue is a little off.

I think this is a really good amalgamation of all the crawls we have seen so far… I think the only that is missing really is something about Rey. She is the main character so I feel like she should get something in the opening crawl.

Thanks to Movies Remastered, I got a Blu-Ray version of Vader’s Castle, and here is my first draft for color correction. I personally think it’s a little too pink, but I’ll let y’all decide. If it’s good then I’ll throw it into the drive, but if it needs another pass I can get back into DaVinci and take another crack at it.

Edit: I left the clip longer so that an editor can cut the parts they don’t like, the bulge at the beginning is the ship and that’s the only super noticeable part of where the ship used to be.

Here is that shot of Vader Castle to match the other Mustafar Scenes… I worked around with it for awhile and this may be the best… I am currently waiting for a new external blu-ray drive so this was made from a clip from youtube which I think explains why it kind of looks grainy, but this is what the clip looks like with all of the crazy encoding that youtube does.

Yeah, I can put that video in my drive. And for downloading Youtube clips I use these two links, probably better to keep a firewall or something up just in case - https://www.clipconverter.cc/2/ and https://www.y2mate.com/en19. Personally clip converter is a better choice but if there is music that has been flagged or something, it won’t always work so that’s when I use the other.

And yeah, if you could send the tie footage that would be sweet!

Wow! That’s incredible!

Here is my first attempt at coloring Vader’s Tower, it’s kind of grainy but I think that is a pretty decent first draft.
I’m liking the ideas of having Kylo in the forest then go to Vader’s Tower. I think this would be the best shot to convey that idea and stick to canon, as there would probably be something left over if the tower was in ruins.

I found some National Geographic footage of forest fires and re-colored the clip as closely as possible to the first scene. It was actually a trick I picked up from another editor who used Nat Geo footage for an establishing shot for Ajan Kloss.

EDIT: Here is a link for these clips and others that I will make in the future. The Vader Castle and Lava Pit clips I have to remake when my USB blu-ray disk is fixed.

Any tips on the best way to color grade these really blue shots to the pinkish-orange atmosphere of Mustafar? When I color-grade it, it gets really pixalated/noisy but there has to be some way that it can be done…

So with the final order fleet, the idea is just to make it an incredibly large fleet, and they don’t have planet destroying weapons right?

I was watching through A New Hope recently, and I think it was Han who said that a weapon that could destroy a planet was impossible, it would take thousands of ships to do that. This also reminded me of Knights of the Old Republic where Taris was destroyed too.

The only thing I might change would be having a more static shot of Fortress Vader in the vision itself (namely the shot from Rogue One where Krennic’s ship lands in the platform, with the ship removed). That way one could save the Mustafar/castle establishing shot for later, after Kylo finishes communing with the helmet. That way it would make the transition to the surface less abrupt. But so far it works great. Definitely a fan of moving the helmet scene to the beginning.

Thanks! I think you’re right, after watching through it a couple times I think that Vader’s Castle would need to be almost like a flash, and maybe the Wayfinder or the box should be shown right after. Then progress to showing the Luke and Han visions.

What can also help sell that too is if you don’t use the “whole” clip.

Here is a quick and dirty rough idea if moving the Vader helmet scene towards the beginning. As for the middle of it, I didn’t do anything to it since I wanted to show just the “kylo” footage with Vader’s helmet. Obviously the idea would be to alter all that flashback/imagery/sounds/etc. to fit more on the lines of “Vader” guiding Kylo.

After seeing your take on this I got inspired and tried my hand at it. I added Vader’s castle here, as well as replacing Luke from Ach To with Luke from Crait. I think it turned out relatively nicely.
