The Prequels: What they should have said...
Time
Chewbacca to Han at the loading dock in Mos Eisely

chewy : what the f%#k was that thing you were talking to outside the ship?

han : eh, just some crazy warlord guy who i owe a shit ton of money to

chewy : damn, why'd he just let you go?

han : i dont really know, i guess he's just a really nice evil warlord.

chewy : oh well, maybe we'll see him again, he seemed cool.

han : yeah, its been a weird day, first i just barely miss being hit by a laser from point blank range, then this.

chewy : yeah. weird. i feel like things used to be cooler.

Why the saga has suffered because ESB was so good (IMO)
Time
i've actually experienced that same phenomenon with a friend who is an avid movie lover, and never got around to giving star wars a chance in the past. but now because of the great outcry againts the new ones, he wanted to see what the old ones were like. he ended up loving them (as any normal person should) and even got almost as livid as i am about the alterations and bullshit Lucas put in the new DVD's. he just couldnt understand why the changes were even made at all, and i replied, "no one does dude, no one does."

Why Leia remembers Padme but Luke doesn't
Time
i think mebejedi makes some good points here about leia having more of a 'force-induced' memory of her mother. but i dont believe anyone had that in mind when the dialog was written, and it would have been just as easy to make the new film agree with the past ones, but Lucas just doesnt care enough about his own work to do that. im sure this whole thing has been discussed alot, but it really wasnt a problem until all of us saw the last 10 minutes of ROTS and said 'what the fuck, jesus christ, goddamnit'., and so forth.

Another prequel vs. OT Discrepancy
Time
yeah, that makes sense, although ive never read that one, i like that idea. i guess all i meant was that amidala did live for some amount of time after leia was born and Lucas certainly overlooked that. and with the novelization bit there, we see that leia knows for certain that she is adopted and can still remember the distant memories of her birth mother. thanks for the insight.

"You don't know the power of the dark side! I must obey my master"
Time
im not sure its fairt to even ask Lucas why Vader has to obey his master, he doesnt know either. the real 'mystery of the dark side' Adam, is found in the old trilogy not in the new ones where the mystery could be cleared up or founded in some way, but Lucas just fucked it up.
the real enraging thing about the prequels is not that its the worst thing ever, but that its so close to touching on what could have been awesome that it just fails all the more.

is Adam a gimmick? or is he Lucas in disguise? cause no one can be that stubborn.

Another prequel vs. OT Discrepancy
Time
lets not forget that among the MANY things lucas FORGOT to align between the two trilogys. he simply overlooked this fact:

luke to leia : do you remember your mother, your real mother?

leia : just a little, she was very beautiful, but sad

are we supposed to belive that leia has memory streching as far back as the moment of her birth to see her mother dying and luke does not have this ability, even though amidala looks at both of them before she dies. i would argue that lucas didnt have anything of the sort in mind when that dialog came about. in fact, i would say that the idea would've been for luke to be taken away much earlier than leia for the purpose of hiding him from the Emperor and Vader. and more over, that Amidala didnt die, or 'lose the will to live' right after she gave birth. yet another scenario where lucas changing things makes literally, less than zero sense.

i think the problem is quite simple actually. as with many great artist, musicians, directors, there is a certain creative drive they have from very early on, and sometimes it can last for years, but most will burn out and begin to degrade right around the time serious fame hits them. lucas surely had talent and creativity, but at this point, i would argue that he has lost all semblance of what made him good 30 years ago. and not only lost it but looked at his past acheivements as 'accidents' or incomplete ideas when, in reality, they exist as a certain kind of movie masterpeices. his making of the new trilogy and tampering with the old are just crushing blows to fans who loved those old movies for exactly what they were, not what they could be in 30 years when the technology allows. lucas has officially lost his once great ability to be creative, and i would argue that any serious star wars fan could have made a better prequel trilogy than he has, and i mean, anybody.

Rank the changes made to the OT from worst to best (or least worst?)
Time
yeah, i def. agree with the list here. but, i think the inclusion of Hayden in ROTJ was really the one thing that put me over the edge in my hatred for old George.
i'd probably say

1. the new song scene in jabba's palace
2. hayden in Rotj
3. greedo shooting first
4. deletion of ewok celebration song
5. inclusion of celebration bullshit cgi
6. jabba in New Hope

i just thank the maker that i have the VHS copies, and the original soundtracks.
