Episode VIII : The Last Jedi - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *
Time

If we ignore consistency with everything we’ve seen thus far about Force ghosts, I think it might be kind of cool to have them sort of oscillate between their young and old selves, not ever fully manifesting as either. I.E., for Obi-Wan, shoot McGregor, make a CGI Guinness, record audio of both McGregor and Stanton-as-Guinness, and then fade back and forth between them, never going more than 85% or so in one direction or the other, and probably favoring the older version just a bit. Sort of like how the TFA Force vision had both Guinness and McGregor, but also visually.

EDIT: I guess I had an old window that I hadn’t refreshed in a while open; I thought we were still talking about Force ghosts. Oh well, imagine this was a page ago.

The Force Awakens: Official Review Thread - ** SPOILERS **
Time

I watched TFA for the first time in a while this afternoon, and I think I may have come around on the whole Starkiller thing. It occurred to me that what sets it apart from the other two Death Stars is the fact that the First Order isn’t the dominant power in the galaxy, but rather a lunatic fringe group. It’s like if Bin Laden had a nuke, which is something very different from what we saw with the Empire’s superweapons. I think they certainly could have explored that angle a lot more than they did, and I hope they will in subsequent stories, but for now I’ve decided that that’s enough of a twist for me to get past any lingering misgivings about Starkiller Base.

Anakin ghost old vs young
Time

At the risk of losing all credibility here, I could see myself accepting the Hayden version if they do something with ghost Hayden that doesn’t suck in the new movies. On a recent episode of Collider Jedi Council, they addressed the rumor that Yoda will appear as a ghost in The Last Jedi, and someone made a point that if Yoda does end up talking to Luke from beyond the grave onscreen, there’s nothing stopping Obi-Wan, Anakin, and (less likely) Qui-Gon. It’s a lot of "if"s, but IF they do bring in Anakin for TLJ, and IF they use Hayden, and IF his performance isn’t bad, and IF it feels earned in the context of the entire film, I would be open to including a post-2004 version of ROTJ in my complete saga watch-throughs.

Rogue One * Spoilers * Thread

Lord Haseo said:

I just saw a video stating that Krennic was originally supposed to die by Vader’s hands and I’m so glad they didn’t go down that route as Krennic being turned into star dust is the only death a man like that deserves.

Going in I was sure that’s how it would play out. Having him get clipped on the catwalk by the Death Star’s superlaser before it hits the planet does have a nice irony that death-by-Vader would have lacked.

I’d definitely say she’s in the top tier for EU original characters. She was probably the second most significant addition in the Thrawn trilogy after Thrawn himself, and she remained part of the core ensemble from Hand of Thrawn right up to her death. She also was introduced at a time when Leia was really the only game in town as far as female characters were concerned, and that meant a lot to a lot of people.

K. W. Jeter’s The Bounty Hunter Wars trilogy was pretty neat. They’re not nearly as beloved as the Brian Daley books, but A.C. Crispin’s Han novels are pretty fun. I’m thinking I might revisit Outbound Flight after the new Thrawn book drops just to compare and contrast. I read about a third of it a few years ago and was enjoying it, but I put it down to read something else at some point and just never picked it back up.

STAR WARS: REBELS (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread
Time

I thought the duel was very reminiscent of a Sergio Leone-style gunfight, a huge buildup of tension and then the actual fight is over in a flash. I liked it a lot, it’s really cool to see that kind of sensibility applied to lightsaber dueling.

Also, after scanning comments sections on a few different reviews, I’ve come to the conclusion that there is nothing more tedious in all of Star Wars fandom than discussion of the numbered lightsaber forms.
