Just saying it seems like yesterday that this topic opened and I can’t believe how fast time flies. I am not complaining about how long it is taking and could really care less how long it takes actually. Sorry if I offended anyone.

We’re teasing your name, not the post. Not to worry, time marches ever onward, sometimes it’s fun to realize that so much time has passed.

is the project dead?

I’m not sure I can convey my expression of confusion, anger, disappointment, and plain awe that I have right now.

can you blame me it’s been a long time since there was an update

info Wanted: can someone fix some color issues dirt and black levels the new 30th anniversary blu ray of transformers the movie?
Time

Does anyone have the 1989 Japanese Laserdisc it has the stereo track. If so great would someone check it to see if the audio is better? If know one on here has it would you look in to getting it. I know its a lot of money but i don’t have a laserdisc player and i wouldn’t be able to do it. Even if i did i still wouldn’t be able to because i also don’t have a blu ray drive.

The problem with this Blu-ray screenshot seems typical with many hi-def releases today – they narrow and darken the spectrum to “boost” it’s apparent saturation. Just look at all that wasted spectrum!

Why? Beats me, but they ruin the picture and make it look artificial (the same with live action).

Anyway, from this one sample, it looks eminently fixable even to the point of making Hot Rod red (just my guess from reading that review). All one would need is a proper color reference for the characters.

Is there anyway for someone to clean up the dirt and get better audio?

High-Def Digest: The Transformers: The Movie - 30th Anniversary Edition - Joshua Zyber (August 31, 2016) wrote:

Back in 2007, the film was released on Blu-ray in the UK. However, no domestic version appeared on the format until now.

The 30th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray is offered in two packaging options, either a standard keepcase with reversible cover art and a slipcover, or a Limited Edition SteelBook. A DVD version is available separately.

‘Transformers: The Movie’ has had a long and troubled history on home video. From VHS to Laserdisc to DVD and now Blu-ray, the film’s distribution rights have changed hands a number of times, both domestically and abroad. Every new label does a new video transfer for it, and no two have ever looked quite the same, with major variances in aspect ratio and color.

Black levels are very elevated and washed-out, which is really problematic for a movie with a lot of scenes in outer space. The image is fairly soft, especially the opening credit text, and the source elements suffer from the appearance of dirt, dust and specks throughout.

The colors in this movie have always been difficult to get right for some reason … This is most evident in the character of Hot Rod, who’s supposed to be a solid red sports car. … In the Shout! Factory transfer, he’s a dull pink. In this regard, the Blu-ray matches the Sony BMG DVD, but the color seems really odd and out-of-place for the character.

The Blu-ray offers the movie’s soundtrack in two options, either lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 or DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. … Both sound like garbage, one slightly less than the other, but I can’t blame Shout! Factory for that. ‘Transformers: The Movie’ has always had a lousy sound mix.

The lazy parts of the transfer is bad enough but the audio is really bad i’m angrier at the audio. But no ifs and or buts does it excuse the video. It’s almost as bad as the audio they screwed up with both parts of the remastering. Because in the remastering video and the panel they said they were putting in a+ effort. But they botched it they said they were doing proper color correct they didn’t at all. Even though yeah they did color correction but did it based on animation cels. The black levels are washed out and they didn’t do proper clean up. Also they said they found a really good audio source that was a lie.

Check out my YouTube page, “SMBSS Restored- Legend of Zelda Fridays” and my friend Dylan’s page, “SMBSS Restored”. I tackle the Legend of Zelda episodes and he does the Super Mario Bros. episodes. He has uploaded all DVD episodes, restored with the original music, as well as the five non-Zelda related live-action portions of episodes that were altered or omitted for the DVD releases. I am working on finding and restoring the live-action Legend of Zelda-related episodes.

Eventually a DVD set will be made of all the restored episodes. Soon work will begin on Captain N, and then Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3!

does your restoration also fix the damaged video etc in the dvds and clean up as best as possible the non dvd parts video as well?

Hopefully the forum will shape up before that time and Ady will come back.

I don’t know about the second part, but the first part is as likely as me finding a good anime.

It’s as likely as tv’s frink not being a huge jerk to people on here.

Yes, quite a mess. I been thinking of fixing these films for years and still haven’t.

too busy if so i understand.

well it looks like the nightmare on elm street black crush can’t be fix here’s what was said on fanres.com: black crush is very high and it looks like it’s beyond repair. Only way to fix it would be, to pretty much, make new transfers from the reels. man i wish warner bros would make the sequels look right 😦

why not?

Because studios aren’t in the habit of accepting crowd funded charity. Besides, I wasn’t aware there was anything wrong with most of the transfers listed.

back to the future trilogy used dnr and edge enhancement and a really old transfers, mallrats used dnr and edge enhancement and a really old transfer, chasing

amy used dnr,jay and silent bob strike back looks like an upscale, die hard 1,2,3 4k transfers needed, rambo films need 4k transfers they dated transfers, leathal

weapon films really old transfers and needs color correction, rocky needs color corection for 1 4k transfers needed for 2-5,nightmare on elm street box needs color correction has really dated transfers and has black crush.

Did that help DE?

oh ha ha the only reason i posted what was wrong is one of the posters on here said he thought most of the releases i mentioned had no problems as far as he was aware.sorry i want the films to look right.

i was trying to see if there was a way we can get these films a proper transfer like getting the money from kickstarter and give that to the studio for them to use for a proper remaster.doesn’t have to be all of them

Not only that… but part 2-7 have modern intros and outros and those need fixed too. Annoying as fuck. Parts 2 and 3’s intros are easily fixed cause Part 1 on BD retains it’s original New Line intro and 1-3 had the same intro. Still need HD outros and the intros for part 4-7.

So the whole set is mess.😦 why am i not surprised if only it had the mono tracks on top of the fixes it needs as well on a side note too bad the blu rays don’t have the deleted scenes etc. that were on the laserdisc oh and the uncut versions of 1,5,and 6.😦

I don’t know what this person was doing. But as far as your second question, I remember looking into this a bit and as far as I recall it was not determined how exactly it would end, just that it would not have been this kiss or the world-spin (as of course the studio would have pushed that into the first film). I believe Donner talked about the issue a bit in the credits for his cut.

I made my own cut which had the goal of changing as little as possible from the Donner Cut, except to remove obvious 21st century technology and a couple other things. Many, many people have tried to make the best cut out of the two versions. And I think all those projects are great. But if I’m going to watch a cut, it’ll generally be the Lester cut I grew up with. The goal for my edit was just to get the Donner Cut into a form that I find watchable, but I do not try to correct the ideas for the cut itself. This means:

Removed the terrible CGI at the start. The intro logo and graphics are from the theatrical release. Poorly done rectangle prison and 3rd Rock From the Sun planets were replaced with theatrical shots. I re-did the exploding rocket with footage from Superman I, mixed with the original model rocket shot, flipping and rotoscoped over the elevator from Lester. This was an early render: http://dai.ly/x2gpj3s

Removed mismatched Clarks from the bullet scene, keeping as much dialogue as possible: http://dai.ly/x2gq2vm

Put in the Lester kiss ending instead of world-spin. No one, apparently including Donner, knows what he would have done. But it wouldn’t have been the spin if he actually finished it, and it’s not watchable with the spin, the way the first film was completed.

what selutron was doing for superman 2 the richard donner cut was fixing effects shots, fixing scenes sounds etc.

Do you have a link where the project is described? Change lists, examples, etc?

here’s the link to his channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcb67Rp2E5uc0VSZjmZvpgw
