I don’t know what this person was doing. But as far as your second question, I remember looking into this a bit and as far as I recall it was not determined how exactly it would end, just that it would not have been this kiss or the world-spin (as of course the studio would have pushed that into the first film). I believe Donner talked about the issue a bit in the credits for his cut.

I made my own cut which had the goal of changing as little as possible from the Donner Cut, except to remove obvious 21st century technology and a couple other things. Many, many people have tried to make the best cut out of the two versions. And I think all those projects are great. But if I’m going to watch a cut, it’ll generally be the Lester cut I grew up with. The goal for my edit was just to get the Donner Cut into a form that I find watchable, but I do not try to correct the ideas for the cut itself. This means:

Removed the terrible CGI at the start. The intro logo and graphics are from the theatrical release. Poorly done rectangle prison and 3rd Rock From the Sun planets were replaced with theatrical shots. I re-did the exploding rocket with footage from Superman I, mixed with the original model rocket shot, flipping and rotoscoped over the elevator from Lester. This was an early render: http://dai.ly/x2gpj3s

Removed mismatched Clarks from the bullet scene, keeping as much dialogue as possible: http://dai.ly/x2gq2vm

Put in the Lester kiss ending instead of world-spin. No one, apparently including Donner, knows what he would have done. But it wouldn’t have been the spin if he actually finished it, and it’s not watchable with the spin, the way the first film was completed.

what selutron was doing for superman 2 the richard donner cut was fixing effects shots, fixing scenes sounds etc.

sigh I’m speaking in relative terms. He joined in 2014 - this thread is from 2008. He hasn’t been around for the entire ride. In any case, if you’re going to take anything from what I wrote, don’t focus on the “be welcoming to noobs” part, but rather the “be patient and courteous” part.

I think your general point is a good one. We (certainly including myself) should be accommodating to new users.

But, as others have said, this user is an exception in some ways. There have been many, many, many attempts to convey a sense of what forum etiquette should be to him (to be clear: not begging, demanding, or harassing because you think you’ve found someone who can make a thing you want to have but do not want to be involved in making). Quite a few times, this has been very polite. Other times, less so. The user will apologize and ask or demand something in the same response post, clearly missing the message.

After quite a few of these conversations, I think it’s the consensus here that the guy isn’t a troll. He may be on the autistic spectrum or have something else going on. We’ve worked out that it’s not just a matter of being extremely young. So, there’s no reason to be rude to him. But there is a need to be a bit strict with him, I would say. It’s certainly the case of offering an inch and taking a mile when you reach out to him about a suggestion of his, so members who aren’t familiar with him should be informed that considering his suggestions/demands/questions may lead to months of daily messages as he might think you will be the one to grant him some great favors.

It can be difficult to determine who is intentionally trolling a forum like this, since there are people with special needs, etc, who are welcome to be members of the community. When there are users (like “Dat”, for instance) who intentionally exploit that kind of patience, it can be certainly be tempting to just respond rudely. In the case of JMO, I really don’t think it’s intentional in any way. It is, however, enormously persistent to the point that giving a genuine response can unfortunately (for everyone) backfire quite a bit.

1)I guess i’ve never been good with sentience structure. 2)I don’t have a blu ray drive to do edits. 3)I’m sorry i don’t mean to be a pest i’m just a fan like everybody on here.

jedimasterobiwan, it sounds like what you’re really after is the Primitive Screwhead Edition DVD that RidgeShark made a few years ago. It is only available in SD (and RidgeShark has no plans to upgrade it, so don’t ask him), but used the best sources available at the time so it’s still great to watch.

If you don’t know how to edit, it’s never been easier to learn how - even very basic tools are accessible and it’s a lot of fun once you start trying.

I also said i didn’t have a blu ray drive.

He’s not a newcomer, and he’s got a modus operandi.

This is very true. He used to ask for constant updates on Twitter, before I convinced him to ask questions on this thread. Which he continues to do.

Sorry i’m just a big fan of the edit that’s all.

I really don’t have a preference, but the stomach punch will be used since this a recreation of the tv cut. Which one do you think is better?

i don’t know can you show me a clip of both versions of that scene when you have the time? does this version you are doing including all director’s cut scenes excluding the director’s cut ending?

I was considering a 2nd audio option with the swearing restored. I was never sure why “buckethead” was censored, lol. But this will come later. Still lots of work to be done.

oh thank you i really appreciate it. also what take of this is better the alternate take of Ash getting punched in the stomach at the graveyard or the original?

i prever the donner cut excluding the ending. what selutron was doing would have been superior to the currant way the donner cut is right now

The first tv sequence is finished. And so begins scene 2. The very first shot will be whittled down from 1,486 frames of the Koch 50p to match the 698 frames of the SciFi 24p. Crazy…this is going to take a while.

so is this going to have the edited lines please say it won’t

“Apeheads” “Jack and Spit” “Buzzards!” - Yes, it will all be there. And so will the alternate take of Ash getting punched in the stomach at the graveyard. This is to be an exact recreation of the Tv Cut. Others can modify it as they wish.

ridgeshark can you do a non edited version with everything that was censored made uncensored as well?

Look up a faneditor named “Booshman”. He’s done a few things that I can honestly say are just as good as Selutron. I’ve had dozens of ideas over the years to also try and fix Superman 2, and since Booshman has the skills, I threw him some of my ideas, and he liked them.

Preview:

Supes flying off to go get dinner, instead of just walking outta frame with a ‘whoosh’ sound effect http://vimeo.com/43956069

Superman repowered. This one is very rough and the finished edit will look perfect. This was one of my ideas that’s been in my head for at least 7 years now. When he showed me this preview clip I had tears in my eyes cuz I was so happy to see it in real life and not just my head http://vimeo.com/32833584

And one of my favorites, his attempt at putting the ORIGINAL version of the Donner breakup scenes at the end as they were originally done in the TV edit of the film with Margot’s REAL voice and not a voice double (as the Donner Cut used for no reason whatsoever). Better score music was used here as well http://vimeo.com/112925923

is his the best fanedit of superman 2 the richard donner cut

i thought your edit would have the two tv scenes but extended with the director’s cut the good bad i’m the guy with the gun line and the theatrical ending and uncut dialog 😦

Most of the SE ships remain as they are.

ok what about the shots of could city also is he updating other cg se shots?

All of the mattes have been modified.

so the cg effects won’t look like they’re made in the 90s. also if could answer this as well with the cg x wings in the first death star approaching scene will adywan make it so it looks like actual pilots are in the x wings?

jedimasterobiwan, rest assured that the many enhancements/fixes/adjustments/improvements/etc. that are being done throughout each of the ‘cloud city’ scenes are going to blend the existing cgi SE shots into a far better ‘update’ overall.

There’s too many to list, but I think many will find the existing SE pretty much unwatchable after seeing ESB:R.

so the cg effects won’t look like they’re made in the 90s

I get that it’s a question, I just don’t understand what is being asked.

you know the cg shots of x wings in a new hope and the cg shots of cloud city etc.? i was wondering if adywan is going to use updated cg for those shots because now it kinda looks dated.
