STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION

Great Job Ady,

I too am having problems playing it on my HD-DVD XA2. I am able to get it into the movie, but after a couple seconds it freezes. I can fast forward it, resume play, and it plays for a couple more seconds then freezes again. Wierd.

However it plays beautifully on my 3 other DVD players. Thanks for this great treat, and I love the severed arm/hand. That really came out great!

I would absolutely love to get George's thougts on this, and you better let us know if you get a job offer from ILM!

You know what would make Jake Lloyd a little less annoying?

Removing him completely! Sorry, shameless plug for my edit: The Dark Times.

But in all seriousness, I agree with the above posters, the delivery is just awkward. Some of the Dialog is just bad. An example of both? "We have to help them, Mom. You said that the biggest problem in the universe right now is that no one helps each other.""

Just one critique: some of the resequencing is a bit jarring/confusing. Jarring - i.e., the different backgrounds when Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon meet Maul (though it gets tied together better when they move the fight into the power core [?] area). Confusing - i.e., Hologram Sidious is saying "It's too aggressive", but it's not clear what was too aggressive; the ship in the forest doesn't seem to be aggressive without some kind of explanation.

Very exciting overall to see Episode I boiled down to something very action packed with minimal silliness! Nice job, jedi_jra.

Thanks for the comments. I've removed the too agressive line. I agree, it really didn't make sense. The Maul battle was a tough one. I think I've justified in my mind that the power core and the hallway are similar enough, and the fact that it's on the planet, Maul simply enters from outside. (Reminds me somewhat of the bunker in ROTJ on Endor when Han and the Rebels enter) It appears the corridor has 3 hallways shaped like a " T ". Maul enters from the bottom of the " T " where the camera is placed to watch obi-wan and Qui-gon. This is where Obi-wan is looking when he alerts Qui-Gon.

I've also removed the hangar seen mentioned above by PSYCHO_DAYV, and replaced it with Obi-wan, Qui-gon, and Jar jar entering in the sub, presumably from the swamp which in my scroll, is where they had to land. Jar-Jar is simply acting as a guide and local companion. We see "another" gungan escorting the Queen later (pretend it is not Jar Jar). Now I don't have to remove Jar jar from the scene where obi-wan and qui-gon sneak into the city.

I have added some battle scenes, trimmed some dialog, and made a lot of other little changes (Maul no longer sprays red blood when sliced in half). I'm attempting to learn how to edit the audio. The audio is still far from perfect, but I think it is a major improvement over the original rough cut.

This revised edit includes the Phantom menace scroll, however eventually i would like to remove it and replace it with my own. At the end I added the funeral score to give an example of how the lead into Part II would be, signifying both the death of Qui-gon and the Trade Federation taking over Naboo.

Here ya go:

But i did say that was very very quick composite and would be nothing like the final one. You even quoted what i said originally in your post

Indeed you did, and I can't wait too see what you've cooked up! I've had a chance to quickly go through the xvid file, and I am very impressed. I'm looking forward to a movie night tonight.

Kind of like the hand on the left, or curled like the one below.

Episode II: Shroud of the Dark Side (the TM edit) (Released)
Time
Trooperman,

All I got to say is you have to chase your dream! You have amazing talent and vision, and the only way people get to where they want, is to take chances. I can't wait to see your finished product, but I can wait. In your Senior year, you should be looking into film school and getting that locked up. Attack of the Clones isn't going to get better with time, there will always be a need for a better film. Shroud of the Darkside will fill that void when it's ready.

Merry Christmas!

PSYCHO_DAYV,

Thanks for the comments, and the encouragement. The jump cuts frustrate me as well, and I will ask for help.
Regarding the Hanger Bay, it is my intention that it is a hangerbay on the planet as a sort of staging ground. If you had not known this was on a star ship, could you believe it was on the planet? I will probably edit it a little more to remove the ships preparing to load up the droids. I had thought about adding the scene with Jar Jar introducing him as a guide, but I like the idea of introducing the Jedi as they are sneaking around. I was hoping there would be a way to crop him out of that scene or paint him out.

The Dark Times (3-in-1) - PART 1 AVI RELEASED! (* unfinished project *)
Time

"For over a thousand generations the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. Before the dark times, before the Empire."

The Dark Times is a film about Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker is a subplot.

Episode 1 is without young Anakin Skywalker, Silly Gungan Battle, or tatooine. A small rebel force, with the help of two Jedi, must defend Naboo from the Trade Federation.

Episode 2 is without whiney Anakin, and he is not Obi-wans padawan. Anakin is Yoda's padawan being led astray by Palpatine. Obi-wan prefers to serve alone after the loss of his former master.

Episode 3: Because of the Clone war, Obi-wan agrees to train Anakin whom he thought he could instruct, just as well as yoda. He was wrong. Obi-Wan must then face off against a corrupt Anakin Skywalker who is now his friend and padawan.

That's the brief synopsis of the Dark Times.

I have removed all previous clips, as the new edit will be very different. Same premise, very different execution thanks to ideas provided by JasonN in his interpretation of this concept, Shadows of the Old Republic.

DARK TIMES PART 1 - AVI RELEASED 9-6-08

The Phantom Menace has been reduced to 24 minutes! VERY little Jar Jar and No young Anakin.

About this edit.

I made the version of Episode 1 that I want to see. I am very happy with the final result, and I intend to make one more pass at it, so I wanted to get the thoughts of those on the board before I do. For example, where are the video and audio transitions still too rough? I will do my best to smooth these out in my final pass.

This edit is a combination of Ideas, my original ideas plus JasonN’s ideas which he utilized in his edit, Shadows of the Old Republic. In this edit, Queen “Corde” Amidala and Padme are sisters (thanks JasonN). Captain Panaka also has a twin bother, one serving each sister, which had to be done to make this edit work. Queen Amidala is on her way to Coruscant for a political resolution to the Trade Federation’s blockade/invasion, and Padme has stayed behind organizing an underground military force to combat the looming invasion. The battle of Naboo no longer includes Jar Jar’s buddies, and the battle is now a small military uprising from inside the city.

Edits begin at the 6 minute mark. 233 MB Xvid

NEW CLIP 8-22-08

Nightclub without Anakin Skywalker. This may be the final cut of this. I was able to track down an HD copy of clones, and zoom in on Obi-wan, removing Anakin from the Jango Fett killing zam scenes. Some of the cuts are very quick, but it is what it is. I may or may not include this in my final edit, I would like to get some feedback.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=0OJBFBO5

NEW CLIPS 8-20-08

Tatooine Clip 1: Anakin arrives on Tatooine after having a horrible nightmare about his mother. It is established via a conversation with Watto, that Anakin, or Ani, grew up on Tatooine. The acquaintence to Watto is unknown, but apparently they were close. The slave sub-plot is removed.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=I88EYCDK

Tatooine Clip 2: Ankain and Padme arrive at the Lars farm. Eliminated C-3P0’s attempt to introduce himself ( I…Am…C-…). Anakin recognizes him right away. When Anakin and Owen are introduced, I eliminated the introduction of Beru and Padme. Restructured the Story from Clieg about the tusken raiders. None of the leg business. He simply reveals that Shmi is already dead.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=DJRGS1PK

NEW CLIP 8-15-08

Here is a clip with the scene described above. This clip also includes an experiment. A late night idea I had to introduce Obi-wan into Episode II. The last time we see Obi-Wan in Episode I, he is sitting next to a dead Qui-Gon. The idea here is he now prefers working alone, and has taken to hunting down criminals and bounty hunters on the dark streets of Corousant. I would like some feedback as to whether or not this scene works.

The Dark Times is now Back in Progress.

After watching JasonN’s edit, Shadows of the Old Republic based on the concept discussed in this thread, I’ve felt the desire to try this again. In his edit, he made the Natalie Portman Character two seperate people, sisters in fact, the Queen Corde Amidala, and Senator Padme Amidala. He also introduced Anakin into Episode II without him being Obi-Wan’s Padawan. If you have not seen his edit, I would strongly encourage it. A lot of interesting ideas in which to take the prequals. I still think some things could be done better, hence the reason I’m trying again.

Originally, my intention was to eliminate Anakin from episodes 1 and 2 altogether, and not introduce Padme (still a seperate character than the Queen) until Episode II. It was a good place to start, but it didn’t work out too well.

JasonN’s edit and his ideas have given me an opportunity to look at this differently, and utilizing the sister idea as well as introducing Anakin into episode 2 as Yoda’s Padawan, not Obi-wans, It has opened up a completely different edit.

I’m starting from scratch and will update this thread as I am able. I am now determined to create an edit for MYSELF. In other words, I’m removing everything about the prequals that I didn’t like, and it will not be perfect, but it will be my vision. If you can’t please everyone, sometimes, you’ve got to please yourself." As much as I enjoyed JasonN’s Edit, there are things I would have done differently, so that is exactly what I’m doing.

If others can enjoy it, then that is icing on the cake.

Episode 1 Status: Completed (I think) Total runtime is now: 26 minutes

Episode 2 Status: In Progress Current Runtime: 39 minutes.

Episode 3 Status: None

Episode II, to put it bluntly is a terrible movie. As I’m working on my edit, I’m having a hard time finding quality material to actually use for the edit. I find myself re-editing entire scenes just to eliminate bad dialogue. For example, immediatly after Corde (now Corde Amidala) dies on the landing platform, and we cut to the Jedi Council meeting with Palpatine. I have always hated how poorly Palpatine cut off Mace and then Padme.

Mace: If your negotiations do fail…I WILL NOT LET (then mace repeats, ‘If they do…’)

Padme: I don’t think that the situation is…THAT SERIOUS, OH I DO SENATOR.

Terrible!! and now both are gone.

Episode 3 - Editing Back in Progress (* unfinished project *)
Time
I've tweaked it with my suggestions from above, It now plays like this:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GOE7M5FK

Part 1 Establishs deep thought> Padme: Long Shot, Close up - Anakin: Long shot, Close Up (shortened Palpitine voice-over)
Part 2 Establishes the Connection across the city> Padme: Long Shot, Close up, City Shot - Anakin: Long shot, Back shot (emphasis on Anakin's turmoil), City Shot, Close Up
Part 3 Now Communicating, Convey's Emotion> Padme: Close Up (She feels the connection, music rises) - Anakin: Close Up (Feels Pain and Anger)
Part 4 The Exit> Padme: Lowers Head (In Fear) - Anakin: Turns to Leave, Decision Made.

After watching this a couple times, It's almost as if Anakin tuns to the Darkside in THIS scene while standing at the window. When he turns to leave, he already knows what's he's going to do, and so does Padme. This fits with your edit and Anakin not hesitating to chop off Mace's Arm. I don't think you should add the "what have I done line". You may not even need the "you can't" line. He know's exactly what he's done. Maybe adding Vader's Theme as he's leaving the window would change the whole context?

I've added Vader's theme and also redited a few other parts, I cut Mace's "not yet" and palps "it's treason then". I made Anakin cutting off Mace's arm much quicker without any dialog, and cut Anakin's, "I'll do whatever you ask"

With Darkhelmet's wonderful re edit and pace of the palps Mace Fight, and fixed Palpatine Lighting, I think it makes it possible to cut even more of the lame dialog out. Check it out and let me know what you think below.

"As for Anakin saying "You can't!", I sincerely hope that his need of Palpatine will be understood by this point in the movie and that I will not need to include the line as it makes me cringe. I'll need to wait and see if subtlety will work in this regard."

I agree with the cringing part, most of his performance makes me cringe, I think you can leave the scene as is in your edit, just put his voice over the transition from the backside of Anakin to the shot with Mace with his lightsaber raised. Mace almost pauses and moves his head in disbelief as if Anakin is still speaking so it may work. ( I also realize it may not ) Maybe even simply replacing, "you can't" with "I need him". By itself, I don't think it will be as cringeworth, especially if we're not SEEING him say it. I just feel we need to see a little more emotion from Anakin before he lops of Mace's arm.

The Anakin and Padme scene, I didn't realize you had left it unchanged...It's been a while since I've seen it. I agree with you about the emotion part, I think it's one of the most impactful scenes in the movie, I just think it could be even better with a little tweaking.

Episode 3 - Editing Back in Progress (* unfinished project *)
Time
Darkhelmet,

EXCELLENT storytelling and flow! I really like your style of editing and your ideas. I have 3 small suggestions.
_____________________________________________

1) Cut :38 - :43. This segment contains 4 short shots of Anakin, but the cuts are quick and ubrubt. Cut the two middle shots, as pretty as they are, and the bookends complete the intention of the shot. This also would then mirror the Padme shots prior like this.

Padma: Long Shot, Close up - Anakin: Long shot, Close Up

2) Cut 1:35 - 1:38. This is the third City Shot. The connection has already been established, and this inturrupts the exit from this emotional scene. With out this shot, it plays out like this, starting with the above sequence.

Part 1 Establishs the deep thought> Padme: Long Shot, Close up - Anakin: Long shot, Close Up

Part 2 Establishes the Communication across the city> Padme: Long Shot, Close up, City Shot - Anakin: Long shot, Behind shot (emphasis on Anakin's turmoil), Close Up, City Shot

Part 3 Now Communicating, Establishes the Emotion> Padme: Close Up (Showing Fear) - Anakin: Close Up (Showing Pain)

Part 4 The Exit> Padme: Lowers Head - Anakin: Turns to Leave Decision Made.

I hope that makes sense, I would have re-edited it, but I wouldn't have the time until tomorrow.

_____________________________________________

3) When Anakin attacks Mace, he says: "You can't", then just chops off Maces Arm. I think it's important to add the line "I need Him!" It just connects the dots for the average viewer.

I can't wait to see the rest of your edit!

Idea: a Teen Wolf edit - with Cut Scenes?
Time
Anybody else able to capture this movie over the weekend? I'll do my best, but I would like to have various captures, and then choose from the best to incorporate into a "Director's Cut". Thanks!

There are a couple more showings on AMC which may include the cut scenes:

AMC Teen Wolf (1985) Mon., Oct. 08, 2007 1:45 PM | 0:45 C
AMC Teen Wolf (1985) Thu., Oct. 11, 2007 8:15 AM | 7:15 C

Time
IMDB does a poor job in explaining the cut scenes. IMDB does not include the extended montage cut sequence, with the wolf getting his photo taken with the cheerleaders. There may be a few additional sequences in the montage, but the cheerleaders is the one that is very vivid in my memory ;-) So IMDB does mention 3 of the 4 cut scenes. The "alternative sequences", styles searching for his marijuanna, and Scott getting worked up were only cut in the UK, and are included on the US DVD, so I will not consider these as cut scenes.

These are the four cut scenes in the order in which they appear:

1) Styles tries again to aquire a Keg of Beer for the Party. "I saw this in a movie once." "Didn't work in the movie either"
2) After walking Boof home, Scott gets chased by a pack of dogs, only to be saved by Daisy.
3) Extended "Flesh on Fire" music montage which includes the wolf getting his photo taken with the Cheerleaders.
4) Scott has a heart to heart with his father on the front porch after the dance.

I did notice on IMDB that Teen Wolf will be on TV this month: Sun. Sept. 30 2:00 PM MyNetwork. It may include these scenes. Does anybody have this channel and could somebody record it with the intention of creating a "Director's Cut" by inserting these scenes into the US DVD?

It will also be on where I live (Harrisburg, PA) on Saturday the 29th at 3:00 AM, Channel 21 WHP. The only means I have of recording it are Windows Media Center, not the most ideal set-up as quality is lacking with the windos compression. I will most definitly record it though, worst case scenerio putting the clips on youtube.

Unfortunatly, I don't think they are on DVD, at least not in the US. From what I understand, these scenes were only shown on television airings. I remember them all quite vividly as I used to have a video tape off television. I wish I still had it. It might be a chore to track these down. There is a new torrent on demonoid that says it's an xvid of a TVRip, I don't know if it would include these scenes or not. I posted a question in the comments, but haven't seen a response yet.

Idea: a Teen Wolf edit - with Cut Scenes?
Time

Would anybody be able to do a teen wolf edit with the cut scenes. I know of four in particular: The extended basketball montage with Cheerleaders and Michael J fox taking a photo together (a brief clip of this can be seen in the trailer at the 1:04 Mark http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbIerQkXm_k ),
MJF being chased by dogs, MJF’s talk with his dad after the dance, and another scene where Stiles tries to get a keg of beer from another liquor store. He tells his brother that he’s going to use a method he saw in a movie. When he comes back without the keg, he says that it didn’t work in the movie either.

I hope somebody will be able to do this!
