 Yeah, I had been working on this, and just kinda got Star Wars overkill, I had finished part 1, and nearly finished part 2.  Never even started Part 3.

EDIT:  I guess i should add that I was really making a lot of creative decisions that may have proved impossible.  I wanted the "prequal movie" to revolve around the best actor in an attempt to save it,  and in this case, I believed the best actor to be Ewan as Obi-Wan.  Also probably the next biggest creative change which I credit to JasonN, was making Queen Amidala and Padme sisters, Amidala would actually be killed on the landing platform in Part 2.    So with that being said, the edit may actually make some sense.   The edits actually begin when obi-wan and Qui-gon stow aboard seperate ships to head to the planet's surface. 

This is turning into my favorite edit so far!  I've always had a mental block when it came to the Prequals coming before the Original Trilogy relating to time.  It was two shiny, clean, and modern to actually believe it took place before the events of Luke, Han, and Leia.  Now it is more of a dream or vision, as if this is what Obi-wan is visualizing when he's describing the clone wars.   It forces the issue that this takes place in the past, at least for me, and that short clip proved it. 

I do like the colored filter look too, very much.  Just like newspaper changes color when it get's old, black and white is too clean.  In fact, I would not object to the yellow filter, the whole way through, but I know you are planning to change the tint depending on the scene. 

Two of the 4 scenes have been posted to YouTube!  Quality could be much better, but this is the first I have seen these scenes in at least 10 years!  Pretty cool.

I'm glad you all liked my edit of the jungle sequence.  It's exciting to see all that can be done with the footage we have available.  I am truly hopeful that a decent movie can be created.

jones1899, I'm going to have to disagree with you on the "Hi MAC" line.  I think this is a classic Indy type remark and it is one of the few interactions with Mac that I enjoyed.  And the fewer "Jonsy's", the better. 

InfoDroid, I love dvd artwork and I am very excited to see your edit. 

6.  The jungle chase and Monkees.  This can be fixed.  Too much to go into but a couple of notes.  I like Indy's "Stop being a child" line, but cut Indy's "Find something to fight with". oh look how convenient, he told me to find something to fight with and look, Spalko's swords.  I think it would work better if Mutt did this on his own.  Get rid of Spalko shouting "JJOOOOOONNEEEEEEESSSS".  Get rid of Mac's first "JOOOONNNESEY!!!!!!!!"  It works the second time when he looks at him and says it softly, just before Indy says "Hi Mack" and then knocks him out.  That feels like Indy.  Cut the plants hitting Mutt in the crotch, re-cut the hand to hand fight between Spalko and Mutt, cut the CGI monkees, cut the 3 waterfalls.  I'll post my re-cutting of this entire sequence when I'm happy with it. 

Ok Here's my attempt at fixing the Jungle chase and waterfall madness.  I like it, but I'm sure there are many ways to do it.  This is just one of those.

I've thought about creating my own edit, and here are the scenes I would be cutting.

1.  Cut the Entire Nuke and Bomb Town sequence.  Show the morning sunrise after escaping the russions, Indy walking onto the rocks and overlooking the valley, fade into the campus where Indy is Teaching. 

2.  Cut the attack in the graveyard, serves no purpose and works better without it.  Still have mutt saying "I think I saw something" without actually seeing anything, and Indy responding "Your Jumping at Shadows".  Cut it this way, and he really is just jumping at shadows.  Cut from  Indy helping Mutt up and cut directly to them now inside the cave. 

3.  Shorten the reunion of Marion and Indy.  Eliminate Marions cheesy "With anybody but you" line.   She is just WAY to happy.   Cut right after Indy says "Why, are you looking for a date?" directly to Spalko's "So Dr. Jones, you'll help us."  This also gives Indy the last word in the argument.  Also in the same sequence, cut Indy's "Same old, same old".

4.  I would be cutting the 3 waterfalls, so I would have to eliminate the drops 3 times dialogue with Ox.  Cut from "I need a pen and paper", to Ox completing the drawings". 

5.  Shorten the Dry Sand pit sequence.  It just goes to long.  Last part of this scene shoud be "It's a snake, what do you want me to call it", and Indy grabs it.  Get rid of the call it a rope sequence.  I liked the can't you find a rope and Sears line, but having everybody actually call the snake a rope was just bad.

7.  Increase the tension of the water steps, and don't show the water 2 feet below them just before the fall. 

8.  Mac and the greed regarding the jewels in the tomb has been done time and time again, with National Treasure, the Mummy Movies, and even Goonies.  Cut as much of this as possible.

9.  Finally cut the School promotion, go from "Somewhere your grandfather is laughing, to the wedding"

These are the cuts I will attempt to make, they may work, they may not.  But I'm looking forward to trying it.  Have fun everybody!

Decided to have a little more fun and take it a step futher.  Man I love the 80's soundtrack!!  I went ahead and applied the 80's soundtrack to the final 26 minutes of the film.  I probably went a little overboard, but I wanted to give as many examples as possilbe.  A final edit of this kind probably wouldn't cram as much music as I did into 26 minutes.   I really think this could be pulled off.  I wasn't able to completly remove the music from the original track, so it does overpower the added music in some places, but it's minor and not bad. 

Some of my favorite cues and sequences in this quick edit are 1:25-1:56, 2:46-3:09, 4:02-4:21, 5:09-6:00, 7:36-8:00, 16:22-17-05, 18:04-18:58, 19:43-21:25, and 25:31.

You can find the Touch beginning at the 18:04 Mark.  Also featured in the 19:34-21:25 sequence which I think this is my favorite sequence.  I just love this song.

I posted this over at FanEditForum, and I know Reave will be working on an 80's edit of the new Transformers in the future. I wanted to share a quick video I made with "Hunger" applied to one of my favorite scenes in the new movie. I didn't do any video or audio editing, just applied the track over the existing audio.  I think it fits quite well, almost as if Michael Bay edited the scenes to this track.  Some of the audio cues line up very nicely with the action.  I can't wait until someone completes an edit with the entire 80's soundtrack! http://www.megaupload.com/?d=28HGMH3O

I'm actually in the process of doing this.  My dad always enjoyed the colorized movies, and he had recorded quite a few which had never been released on video.  I have a list of about 315 films which have been colorized.  Here are the colorized movies that I have, about 44, and I'm in the process of preserving them:

I'm hoping to release part II this week, any thoughts on part 1?  Or did I fail miserably at trying to accomplish Episode 1 without Anakin?

About this edit.

I made the version of Episode 1 that I want to see.  I am very happy with the final result, and I intend to make one more pass at it, so I wanted to get the thoughts of those on the board before I do.  For example, where are the video and audio transitions still too rough?  I will do my best to smooth these out in my final pass.

This edit is a combination of Ideas, my original ideas plus JasonN's ideas which he utilized in his edit, Shadows of the Old Republic.  In this edit, Queen "Corde" Amidala and Padme are sisters (thanks JasonN).  Captain Panaka also has a twin bother, one serving each sister, which had to be done to make this edit work.  Queen Amidala is on her way to Coruscant for a political resolution to the Trade Federation's blockade/invasion, and Padme has stayed behind organizing an underground military force to combat the looming invasion.  The battle of Naboo no longer includes Jar Jar's buddies, and the battle is now a small military uprising from inside the city.

Check this out over at TFCog.com.  A group of of them animated the Transformers comic, "War With".  It turned out VERY well.  They provided the voices themselves, but you of course have the radio dramas at your disposal.  It might give you some ideas.

It just looks to be exactly what you want to do, and it was done very well.

NEW CLIP 8-22-08

Nightclub without Anakin Skywalker.  This may be the final cut of this.  I'll need to step back and take a fresh look at this later.  I was able to track down an HD copy of clones, and zoom in on Obi-wan, removing Anakin from the Jango Fett killing zam scenes.  Some of the cuts are very quick, but it is what it is.  I may or may not include this in my final edit, I would like to get some feedback.

New update.  I wanted to show Anakin and Padme's arrival on Tatooine only to discover that Shmi is already dead.    This idea came from JasonN's edit, eliminating the entire Tusken Raider hunt and reaction by Anakin in the garage, however I wanted to develop the storyline a little more than JasonN's edit had done.

Tatooine Clip 1:  Anakin arrives on Tatooine after having a horrible nightmare about his mother.  It is established via a conversation with Watto, that Anakin, or Ani, grew up on Tatooine.  The acquaintence to Watto is unknown, but apparently they knew each other well.  The slave sub-plot is removed.

Tatooine Clip 2:  Ankain and Padme arrive at the Lars farm.  I Eliminated C-3P0's attempt to introduce himself ( I..Am..C-.....).  Anakin recognizes him right away.    When Anakin and Owen are introduced, I eliminated the introduction of Beru and Padme.  Restructured the Story from Clieg about the tusken raiders.  None of the leg business.  He simply reveals that Shmi is already dead.

Regarding my experiment in the previous clip with Obi-wan and the night club.  I am still working on this and at the moment, I am trying to hunt down a HD version of Clones so that I can zoom in on a couple of scenes to remove Anakin from the frame.  If anybody can help me out, I'm only seeking the part where Obi-wan questions Zam outside the club and when he pulls out the toxic dart.   The whole scene is no more than a minute long.  Also, any feedback on any of these clips would be appreciated!

After watching JasonN's edit, Shadows of the Old Republic based on the concept discussed in this thread, I've felt the desire to try this again.  In his edit, he made the Natalie Portman Character two seperate people, sisters in fact,  the Queen Corde Amidala, and Senator Padme Amidala.  He also introduced Anakin into Episode II without him being Obi-Wan's Padawan.   If you have not seen his edit, I would strongly encourage it.  A lot of interesting ideas in which to take the prequals.  I still think some things could be done better, hence the reason I'm trying again. 

Originally, my intention was to eliminate Anakin from episodes 1 and 2 altogether, and not introduce Padme (still a seperate character than the Queen) until Episode II.  It was a good place to start, but it didn't work out too well. 

JasonN's edit and his ideas have given me an opportunity to look at this differently, and utilizing the sister idea as well as introducing Anakin into episode 2 as Yoda's Padawan, not Obi-wans, It has opened up a completely different edit.   

I'm starting from scratch and will update this thread as I am able.  I am now determined to create an edit for MYSELF.  In other words, I'm removing everything about the prequals that I didn't like, and it will not be perfect, but it will be my vision.  If you can't please everyone, sometimes, you've got to please yourself."  As much as I enjoyed JasonN's Edit, there are things I would have done differently, so that is exactly what I'm doing. 

If others can enjoy it, then that is icing on the cake.

Episode 2 Status:  In Progress        Current Runtime: 39 minutes.

Episode 3 Status:  None

Episode II, to put it bluntly is a terrible movie.  As I'm working on my edit, I'm having a hard time finding quality material to actually use for the edit.  I find myself re-editing entire scenes just to eliminate bad dialogue.  For example, immediatly after Corde (now Corde Amidala)  dies on the landing platform, and we cut to the Jedi Council meeting with Palpatine.  I have always hated how poorly Palpatine cut off Mace and then Padme.  

Mace: If your negotiations do fail........I WILL NOT LET  (then mace repeats, 'If they do...')

Padme:  I don't think that the situation is........THAT SERIOUS, OH I DO SENATOR. 

Terrible!! and now both are gone.

Here is a clip with the scene describe above.  This clip also includes an experiment.  A late night idea I had to introduce Obi-wan into Episode II.  The last time we see Obi-Wan in Episode I, he is sitting next to a dead Qui-Gon.   The idea here is he now prefers working alone, and has taken to hunting down criminals and bounty hunters on the dark streets of Corousant.  I would like some feedback as to whether or not this scene works.

I agree with Shadows of the Empire.  It would make an awesome video to watch between Empire and Jedi.  The difficulty with Shadows may be that it didn't include a full cast of voice actors for the audio book, so it may not be as exciting as say a Dark Empire.  I found this list with all the audio books available.  It also makes note of those with full casts of voice actors, also known as audio dramas.   http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_Star_Wars_Audio_Books

I would imagine that the most effective Video's to create would be the ones with a full cast adaptation.  Unfortunatly, Shadows of the Empire and the Thrawn trilogy lacked the full cast treament as these are two of my favorites.  For quick Reference, these are the audio books/radio dramas with a full cast of voice actors.

Love the idea, and truly wish I could help.  I had thought of something like this in the past.  I'm not sure if you've seen it, but Transformers had a moving comicbook released with the DVD  called Transformers, Beginnings, and i had thought how cool it would be to do that with the Star Wars comics.

I wanted to give an update on this project.  JasonN at FanEdit.org has essentially completed his edit now entitled 'Shadows of the Old Republic', only thing left for him is his new crawl.  He will be releasing clips in the very near future.
