I’m bothered about that a lot, because I think it’s the only thing stopping her look from being perfect. But I think Lucasfilm has confirmed that they were shortened for practicality - Rosario has to do backflips etc in this episode, and backflips are better performed without long rubbery tentacle things bouncing off your face. I wonder if there was anything to be said for having two different headpieces, one with the correct Rebels head-tail length for non-action scenes, one with the head-tails cut off at a point for them to be digitally added later? But if the prosthetics dept. tried to have them longer and it just didn’t work, I’ll be at peace with it.

Sorry, couldn’t resist. Anyone have any thoughts on whether Chapter 13 takes place before or after the Star Wars Rebels epilogue? I always assumed it was after, but seeing as Sabine wasn’t in the episode - it’s possible that Ahsoka now uses the information she’s presumably gathered about Thrawn to finally begin her search. Alternatively, the search has proved difficult and Corvus is just one stop on a long quest.

I will actually do a review. I pictured Corvus as a lot more lush and Endor-like to compliment Ahsoka’s skin colour, but having a burnt-out forest suits the story purposes a lot better and the cinematography was stunning. Already mentioned, but I loved the references to Yojimbo. I was also very impressed that Dave felt he could take the episode very slowly and build it up. The duel scene, cross-cut with Mando and Michael Biehn’s shootout, was HEART-POUNDING. I’ve spent weeks reassuring my friend and fellow Ahsoka fan (since 2008) that she wasn’t going to die in this show that isn’t about her, but during that scene… all certainty went out the window. Props to Dave for creating such an iconic episode.

Ahsoka’s one of my favourite Star Wars characters, so this was a massive deal for me. Literally my only complaint is - what happened to Ahsoka’s head-tails? One part of me felt they shortened them for practicality, that’s probably the case, but Shaak Ti’s head-tails in Revenge of the Sith were really long. It was very odd and a little irritating but I got over it easily because of how well Rosario Dawson portrayed the character.

Apparently there are already major spoilers for chapter 13 leaked, and they could start circulating round the internet before Friday. To anyone on social media, might be a good idea to start staying off it early (I am).

In my time on OT, I don’t think I’ve encountered anyone terrible enough to post a leaked plot point on here, but if you’re reading this and you’ve heard something… don’t post it before Friday, please. For the record I don’t know what the spoilers are, I’ve just seen a tweet passing on this advice.

TENET was the last film I saw in a cinema, I’m looking forward to a rewatch when I buy it on blu-ray or DVD. I saw the film Summerland in my local cinema before that, it’s nicely done and quite heartwarming. I went in knowing nothing about it, and I think it was best that way (maybe most films are, for that matter).

Man I miss the cinema.

Also, @ScoutTheTrooper on twitter pointed out that the Arquitens class cruiser in Chapter 12 is bigger than the one from Star Wars Rebels and The Clone Wars. The bridge is a few times larger, and the Mando version seems to have its own hanger, judging from the episode and this Topps promotional card:

The Gozanti cruiser seems to be a different model too, or it’s at least modified.

Just hopping on this thread to show some love for the Star Wars vehicles transferred from animation to live action…

(I know this one is based more on the original Imperial Troop Transporter Kenner toy than the version from SW Rebels, but still counts in my book)

This lovely shot of the Arquitens really gave me 2001: A Space Odyssey vibes. Reminds me of the long, ominous, low angle shot of Discovery 1 with the sad music.

I was thinking about this issue the other day. Ahsoka was ‘no Jedi’ in the sense that although she was a force wielder, she wasn’t part of the Jedi Order. At this point in the timeline, that order and their dogma are long gone… so I wonder where she stands now. Having Din Djarin find her only for her to say, “well, TECHNICALLY I’m not a Jedi…” feels a little silly, because it is a bit of a technicality and an invalid one for the above reason. A new Jedi Order is starting, and she’ll either partake in forming it or she won’t.

Also I like Rebels Ahsoka because she really is mostly a guest appearance. She comes across as much more mature, and even more compassionate, than she was in The Clone Wars - and because of her limited appearance, guilt over leaving the Jedi Order and contributing to Anakin’s fall was all I feel they could have touched on. A lot of people were afraid that pre-existing characters like Ahsoka would take away the spotlight from the Mandalorian, and I feel that if the Rebels creative team had explored Ahsoka’s mindset any more than they did, season 2 would have turned into the Ahsoka Tano Show.

Me too, and good point. I take back my harsh words. I suppose I meant more… unnecessary? Sure, arguably every project is unnecessary until it’s good - The Mandalorian, for example - but in comparison to other things the LFL animation dept. could be working on, like… oh, I don’t know… Star Wars Rebels sequel series?

Still looking forward to it a lot though. Only a few months away now, I think.

Sorry to break it to you, but Ahsoka isn’t real. Dave Filoni is real, however, and he seems intent on shoehorning Ahsoka into every project he works on. I get that he feels proud of creating such a popular character, but putting her everywhere and making it so that she can never die causes her to overstay her welcome somewhat.

People make this argument about ‘narcissistic Dave Filoni sticking his cartoon characters in everything he does’ all the time, and I still find it unfair. Ahsoka was already a main character of The Clone Wars, she basically guest appeared in Rebels, and she’s the perfect choice for a Jedi for Din to meet in The Mandalorian. If you had created a character you liked, you knew interesting ways to expand their story, and there was great popular demand for the character to appear in more content… would you really resist doing it, in order to appear less obnoxious?

I know that she’ll probably appear in The Bad Batch series as well, and that’ll probably drive some dubious fans such as yourself over the edge, but I personally love Ahsoka and I’ve never seen a proper reason to not include her in something. Besides, The Bad Batch looks like it might end up a bit of a dull show if Ahsoka and Rex aren’t in it.

I’m so mixed on this. It looks like Snoke, it sounds like Snoke (i.e. - the track ‘Snoke’ from TFA) but I still feel like it isn’t Snoke. Someone, possibly SW Explained or Eckhartsladder, said that they don’t feel that Gideon is involved with the First Order at all and it feels like this whole operation was his idea. I’m inclined to agree, and it makes him a better villain, too.

Seriously, on that note, Giancarlo Esposito is on the fast track to playing one of the best villains in Star Wars, ever.

At the same time, I WOULD love comic adaptions to give unused stories like Lucas’ sequels and Colin Trevorrow’s episode IX the recognition they deserve.

I know we’re only half-way through, but who else agrees that season 2 is already even better than the first one? I love season 1 to bits, and I don’t think it’s entirely comparable because season 1 works best as a smaller-scale and self-contained show, but this season already has so many great ingredients. We have great subplots with Bo-Katan hunting the darksaber, these two ‘police officer’-like New Republic pilots following the Razor Crest, Cara Dune possibly rejoining the New Republic, Boba Fett searching for his missing armour, Moff Gideon creating a new army of Dark Troopers, and of course the search for this mysterious Ahsoka Tano. Best part is none of this feels overcrowded to me. Jon Favreau and the Mandalorian creative team (as well as all the Disney overlords) could have said, “well this first season made us a lot of money, let’s review what people like most and try and replicate it”. Instead, they were confident that they could change the scale of the show and make it better, as well as making outlandish decisions, and so far they’ve been true to their word. I appreciate that a lot.

I remember something Giancarlo Esposito let on in the Entertainment Weekly article about Gideon ‘spending some one-on-one time with the Child’ so I think it’s certain that the child gets kidnapped at some point, possibly as early as next episode. I know it’s most likely that Ahsoka’s in only one episode and a lot of people, including myself, think it will or should be that way, but after meeting Ahsoka has been built up to this much I think it would be an interesting story decision if Ahsoka was to help Mando rescue the child from the Imperials, possibly in the season finale. This probably won’t happen but it’s still fun to speculate.

I don’t reckon Ahsoka will die, because this isn’t ‘her’ show. She’s a popular enough character now that this should be more of a guest appearance for her. Seeing Ahsoka face off against Moff Gideon and the DARKTROOPERS (this still feels surreal) is something I really want to see, but I know this tracking device puts her and Mando in a lot of danger as well.

Another big question I have is why, when she’s presumably been searching for Ezra for all these years, has she taken up residence on a random forest planet? There’s no way that search is over, it would completely spoil the story set up at the end of Rebels. And unless Bo Katan has really up to date information on Ahsoka’s whereabouts, she must have been there for a while.

I started playing Dark Forces about two weeks ago (great game!) so the re-introduction of Dark Troopers couldn’t have come at a better time! By the way, I’m pretty certain those were dark troopers. This could be misleading, but watch the scene again with audio description on.

The episode felt like a live action Dark Forces mission and season 2 is beginning to give me Expanded Universe vibes, and I mean both those in a good way. Carl Weathers did a great job directing and I hope he’s able to return to the director’s chair in a future season.
