Creepy Puppet Yoda > CG Yoda.

❤️ those sideburns.

I couldn’t actually think of a genuinely unpopular Star Wars opinion that I have, but actually yeah this is one. I stan puppet Yoda. Also I like films being a product of their time so if creepy puppet Yoda appeared in the original film, it should stay that way.

Although I don’t reckon wanting the original threatrical cut of movies to be untampered with is an unpopular opinion, especially not on this forum!

I think it’s fine Lucas kept working independently and I share solidarity with his anti-corporation feelings.

Those feelings make his role as founder of Lucasfilm, and especially the eventual sale to Disney incredibly ironic.

“I was sort of fighting the corporate system, which I didn’t like, and I’m not happy with the fact that corporations have taken over the film industry, but I found myself being the head of a corporation, so there is a certain irony there. I have become the very thing I was trying to avoid, that is Darth Vader…” - George Lucas

Yeah a seismic charge is a questionable weapon to use against two Tie fighters, and I wonder if this particular one was detonated manually by Boba in order to time the explosion so exactly. It’s fan service in a way. But would you really complain? What are action scenes for if not to entertain you, and for that matter what is this fictional universe for if not to make you happy? That seismic charge made me happy.

(Edit: I am completely aware of how Star Wars is meant to accomplish more things than entertainment, culturally and thematically. But the seismic charges aren’t! They’re just pure fun)

An Analysis on the future of Star Wars
Time

These are really good guesses and it’s nice for me to see the shows layed out in a timeline like this. I’m still trying to comprehend how much new stuff we’re getting. The Acolyte sounds really interesting anyway, but getting to see Darth Plagueis and a young Palpatine would make it even more so. The sequel era is the perfect place to set the droids show.

Anyone who’s seen my recent posts in other threads will be fed up of me whining on about this, but I really hope you’re right and the Ahsoka show is just something to give her spotlight and set up the animated SW Rebels sequel series. Sure, the show itself could actually be the sequel to Rebels, but I think Rebels characters deserve more than that (as in, they’re not just side characters in a show about Ahsoka).

I’m actually really worried about the hints of a pre-ANH Vader vs Obi Wan rematch. Many people seem to have conveniently forgotten the line “when I left you, I was but the learner; now I am the master”. A duel between them would be the definition of breaking the canon for fan service.

That line was vague though. He didn’t say “When I left you, I was burning next to a pit of lava while screaming about how much I hate you.” There were no direct lines about what exactly their last confrontation was, so there could potentially be room for another duel in between there.

Yeah, but I just can’t imagine Vader ever describing himself as a “learner”, unless he’s talking about the time he didn’t have the suit, trying to cover for the fact he was humiliated and defeated on Mustafar. It also makes the ANH duel less powerful if they’ve met in between. I agree though that it could potentially be done well, I think if a duel would happen it would definitely be a meaningful part of the story and character development Obi will have in the show.

Also as I said, why not just go for a force vision of some kind?

Boba’s looking smooth. It’s so weird seeing him with a fresh paint job, he looks like a human scale action figure! (I like the look though. Anyway, seeing as next episode he’ll likely help storm Gideon’s cruiser, it won’t be too long until that armour’s put through the wars again.)

Another action packed episode and I liked it a lot. Got both Rogue One and Solo vibes from it, and seeing as for a while it felt like every new Star Wars movie or show had to have a new type of Stormtrooper, it’s really good to see returning designs.

I loved how they brought back Mayfeld and made him far more complex. TV shows are just good for that, and Dave Filoni is particularly good at making good ‘filler’ episodes which become more important later on. I thought the episode works very well thematically, too - Mayfeld sees the stormtroopers celebrating and showing respect for one another (also, is this the first time stormtroopers have been humanised?) and it makes him think. Later, he’s so sure he’s in deep waters, but when his old commanding officer doesn’t recognise him he fully realises how little elites care about those they command. I like that theme a lot and Mayfeld is a really compelling character now.

Cinematography was great, and seeing the Empire version of Slave 1 in action was really something else. I love seeing team-ups, and this episode just feels they’ve taken a handful of random characters from the show (+ Boba Fett) and thrown them together on a vital mission. I love it. Great job Rick Famuyiwa… for the 3rd time!

If Obi-Wan duels Vader in a force vision like Luke’s, as part of some kind of trial for him, it would add to and enhance the duel on the Death Star. If it really is a proper encounter, it will make that original duel less significant. Either way you get a fight between Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi, but with very different effects.

I trust Deborah Chow, but there’s so much unknown about what this show will do. Every time I think about this, it eats at me more. Help!

Count Dooku using Sith lightning ruined the prestige.

I agree. That should have been an extra-high ability power unique to The Emperor.

Speaking as an A:TLA fan, I’m glad the show limited lightning bending to just Azula and Ozai (i.e., two royal family members who were bending prodigies). Korra did away with that limit (while the Kyoshi novels made it even rarer than the A:TLA). Still, it’s more understandable than making Sith Lightning so widespread.

I’m going off-topic, but I’m watching Avatar season 1 for the first time right now. I wonder if there’s a TLA thread in the off-topic section? I could see a lot of Star Wars fans being Avatar fans as well, like yourself.

A friend of mine loves A:LTA and Korra is the bane of his existence because of how it messed up the canon/lore. I’m glad I don’t hate the prequels that much, but they certainly did a similar thing.

I don’t think there was ever anything wrong with Boba Fett being the cool-looking, mysterious side villain, but between The Clone Wars and The Mandalorian, there’s a pretty compelling story being pieced together. Boba lost the only person close to him, his father - and instead of the loving family and friends I would hope most of us here would have in a time of grief, he fell in with his dad’s associates, some of the most cruel bounty hunters around. Boba is convinced he must prove himself and honour his father by killing Mace Windu, but comes to realise he is not like Aurra Sing or Cad Bane and forms his own group of more moral bounty hunters. In an unfinished Clone Wars scene, he even stands up to Cad Bane for unnecessary killing (I still want that arc finished!)

Over the years, the period told in the comics, he becomes ruthless, dishonourable and feared, after taking Cad Bane’s place as the galaxy’s top hunter. But after his humiliating dive into the Sarlacc pit and fall from grace - pun unintended - he becomes a better person, the battle-hardened but honourable man we see in Chapter 14.

I think this episode was Favreau and Rodriguez playing with Star Wars action figures a bit - and I mean that in a good way - but I don’t see that as a recurring feature of the show. I don’t think any characters from The Mandalorian have been any less interesting than characters from the original trilogy.

I’ve seen some people say Chapter 14 is their favourite season 2 episode so far, and they’re not “Star Wars is when lightsaber swoosh laser gun battle pew pew big explosions” types either. I understand them. I thought it was a great episode.

I think Grogu will continue to have dark side moments like his latest scary tirade, and the amount of violence he’s close to will surely have a negative impact on him, but I can’t see him turning to the dark side. It’s important to note that while the amount of intelligence he has in debatable, he IS a child, and decisions are made purely based on feeling or instinct anyway, so ‘dark side’ might not be the right term. Though I really appreciate that Grogu has been made a proper character with struggles and moral decisions, instead of the object of the plot who’s there to sell toys and get captured so everyone can feel sorry for him.

  4. Star Wars (1977)

Wow, Chapters 13 and 14 must have made it for you, Rodney! Congratulations to The Mandalorian on being bestowed the great honour of being #1 on Rodney’s favourites list.

It’s close, for me. Behind Empire… for the moment.

I’ve seen a similar one…

On a side note, when it comes to film-making I’m a realist and I quite like having no or little colour grading. I know that sounds weird because I’m a Star Wars fan - obviously when I see something like Chapter 13 which is graded as hell I don’t call it sacrilege - but I just don’t mind at all when it isn’t used. I will say that seeing as this is a fantasy galaxy, Tython could have looked more majestic than a Californian hillside, but that didn’t bug me either until Eckhartsladder picked up on it.

Maybe I just love this show way too much…
