My hot take is that Ezra Bridger is a great character; my boy, I love him.

I love Ezra too. I never minded him at all seasons 1 and 2 like some people, but I think the incredibly emotional decision he had to make and his sacrifice to liberate his home planet in the Rebels finale will strengthen his character even more going forward.

He’s like Ahsoka, Dave Filoni and his band of writers wrote both Ahsoka and Ezra as young characters who actually act their age and are in some ways annoying, but who mature and become better people as their stories progressed.

DId you ask him about the unreleased tracks?

Not yet actually, but it’s been on my mind - I think I’ll save it until after Christmas, unless I get enough work out of the way in the next day or so. I have a friend who also loves Kiner’s music, who’d like to give some input too.

I’ll post on here when I contact him. Kevin Kiner that is, not my friend.

If we think that Grogu will meet Ben Solo at Luke’s school, will we see Han? If so, will they have to do a creepy Han video game character because Alden Ehrenreich would look weird next to Luke?

I’m guessing they’d use CGI - Alden works better as a younger version of Han, not as a Han replacement. But i don’t think they’ll do it at all. If they were to have a cameo of Han, I’d view it as pure fan service unnecessary to the plot and wouldn’t be happy. One major original trilogy protagonist is quite enough.

Sure, “death is a natural part of life, rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force” and all that, but death is still sad. It still sucks for their family and friends who will never be in their company again, and it sucks for us Star Wars fans who won’t get to meet and thank them at conventions or whatever.

I agree though that death after a long and hopefully fulfilling life is ultimately a good thing, when compared to death after an unhappy and unsuccessful life or the horrible concept of immortality. But this isn’t the philosophy thread!

Well, maybe I should just avoid Star Wars forums until I watch the episodes. I just thought our normal policy here was to keep things in the spoiler threads until at least two or three weeks had gone by.

You’re right, including a spoiler warning just slipped my mind. It’s hard not to notice somewhere that [redacted] is it the season, but I’ll definitely put a warning for the episode posters.

Was this the series finale? It felt like the resolution of the entire story.

I have to keep telling myself, “Gideon’s alive, Mando is owner of the darksaber, he and Grogu will see each other again” because although we’re just getting started in some respects, this episode FELT like the series ended.

Dank Farrik… now we have to wait until December 2021!

Would they want to release it at the same time as The Book of Boba Fett? I’m thinking they’ll stagger them more, so it could be earlier or… longer.

This did occur to me, but apparently it’s been confirmed as Christmas 2021. Unless we get The Book of Boba Fett in December and season 3 releases just after Boxing Day or something, but that sounds unlikely to me.

I’ll post a proper review later, but for now… did anyone else think Pedro looked different in this episode? I know he was emotional, but I don’t think it was just that. Also it’s so strange seeing him in a wider shot with the helmet off because it looks like he has a really small head!

Also, I hate seeing people go on about the dodgy CGI on Luke Skywalker. You can always tell when a human being isn’t real or isn’t quite right, so the effects are noticeable, but it doesn’t invalidate how emotionally impactful that moment was. I don’t think we should let minor issues outweigh just how great this new content really is. I’m not saying The Mandalorian shouldn’t be criticised, but whenever I come to this thread it’s all so bloody negative, and ANY issue is brought to the very forefront of a review.

I’m certain ILM worked incredibly hard to get this effect, like they did with Tarkin, and that’s enough for me. Although I still think Sebastian Stan would have worked well, it’s a great thing that old Mark Hamill can still have a chance at playing young Luke Skywalker.

Do you mean what are your favorite movies right now, or in past tense.

I had present tense favourite movies in mind, but I created this forum so people could share whatever they wanted.

I got so many films I don’t need to subscribe to anything but there are many many more I could list but a very difficult to choose top 10 would also include more than ten because you can’t leave out Jaws and Bladerunner or Alien either,or for that matter Aliens or Terninator.

Same here! In this thread we welcome rambling on about whatever you like most. I certainly do it quite a lot.

I’d forgotten that Jeremy had a cameo in Revenge of the Sith. Here he is piloting the Tantive IV (for anyone who doesn’t know, he’s on the left in the scene where Bail Organa, Obi-Wan and Yoda return to Coruscant).

Here he is looking fresh-faced during filming of The Empire Strikes Back.

And here he is as Boba himself, taking some direction from Kershner very seriously indeed. I’m surprised how much time must have passed between photos, as both are using Cloud City sets.

I hear he was in one or two episodes of Doctor Who as well, but I’ve watched very little of the series - I’m sure there are a few Whovians lurking around who remember his appearance well.

While for the 04SE they called him on the phone and had him record dialog at his house with no thought or planning on his part, as far as I can tell. So he just did Jango.

I do find this quite funny. I was thinking just recently while watching a Jason Wingreen and Temuera Morrison voice comparison video, poor Temuera Morrison must have felt so much pressure re-recording the lines. On the spot in the recording studio, having to live up to Jason Wingreen’s performance and delivering his own version of a widely beloved original trilogy character… Oh well, at least he’d have George Lucas’ direction to reassure him.

He recorded it in his house after a phone call. Great.

(EDIT: no hate for Temuera Morrison, I think the man’s an absolute legend. But seeing as this was recorded for the version that every newcomer to the original trilogy would watch from 2004 onwards, the team putting it together should have put more care into this.)

What's your favourite movie(s) and why?
Time

There’ve been top 10 list threads for films in the past, but they’ve been inactive for ages now, and I thought I’d introduce a thread to make things more flexible. I think I’d struggle to make a definitive top 10 list.

I’ll start: 2001: A Space Odyssey is my favourite film. I have a DVD of 2001 which I’ve never used; it demands to be seen in a cinema, and any time there’s been a special screening, I’ve been first in the queue. It has breathtaking scope, deep and far-reaching themes, wonderful visuals and an incredible vision of the future as well as the universe itself. It seems to encompass so much about humanity. It was probably also one of the things that made me an atheist.

Other favourites include Star Wars (of course - there’d be other SW films on my list, but for the sake of variety I’ll just let this movie represent the whole saga), Donnie Darko, The Truman Show, Blade Runner, Heat, The Wind That Shakes The Barley, Cleo from 5 to 7, Lady Bird, and Your Name.

I love hearing what people see in their favourite movies. Fire away.

New Force powers
Time

At time of writing, there’s discussion/ranting in G&G Fan’s thread about Yoda using a lightsaber, and about Jedi and Sith use of lightsabers in general. I thought of this thread idea a while ago but it feels relevant now.

I’m one of those people that believe Yoda shouldn’t have fought with a lightsaber - I don’t want all Jedi knights to be samey, and Yoda, as an ancient, sage master of the Force (who also happens to be very short), should have progressed beyond such weapons.

I think although it felt right for Palpatine to duel Mace Windu and the other Jedi with a red lightsaber, after his got knocked out of his hand and out of the window, that should have been the end of it. He would be much the same as Yoda, drawing on unique magical abilities befitting his mastery of the dark side of the Force. I think it would be better if we never got to see Yoda at full fighting capability in AOTC, then in Episode III the long-awaited duel between the Emperor and Yoda would get to be a demonstration of exactly how much power an individual can wield. The only trouble is, outside of lightsaber combat, we have… telekinesis, force lightning, repelling force lightning…jumping about like a maniac… is that it?

This might be a controversial idea, but if you HAD to introduce new and powerful Force abilities, what could they be? Off the top of my head, I thought playing with the elements like in Avatar would be nice, Palpatine conjuring destructive fire and Yoda being able to conjure water - but that’s getting into Harry Potter territory, like the fight between Dumbledore and Voldemort in Order of the Phoenix. Good examples of new and inventive abilities are The Last Jedi’s Rey and Kylo connection and Luke’s force projection, I thought those were very in-line with what the Force is all about.

Interested to see how this thread will do. Perhaps terribly.

<s>Why I Love Prequel Yoda</s> (<em>Outdated</em>)

NeverarGreat said:

The image a lot of people had of Yoda and the Emperor in the original films was of beings who had no need for traditional weapons, since they could shoot lightning and lift X-wings with their minds.

… It’s even worse with Yoda against Palpatine. The fact that either of them thought that a swordfight would be decisive shows how small these characters really are.

Just wanted to voice my total agreement. Not all Jedi and Sith need to have lightsabers, I think that’s quite silly. There’s usually a catering to the people who watch Star Wars for the swooshy lightsaber duels, but with one arguably over-choreographed lightsaber fight in Revenge of the Sith already happening at the same point in the film, Yoda and Palpatine really shouldn’t have fought with them.

Thanks Bonez, that was a really interesting watch. I’m glad the video went into detail on the differences between CGI animation and models. Ever since I heard rumours there could be a Star Destroyer or something similar in The Mandalorian, I was hoping they would do model work for it. The Arquitens looks fantastic, and now every time I see it on screen I’ll appreciate it even more, knowing it’s a real, hand-crafted miniature ship.

The Kenobi <s>Movie</s> Show (Spoilers)
Time

Remembered today that in Rebels: The Siege of Lothal (s2 eps 1 & 2, if anyone wants to check it out - do) Vader suggests to the Emperor that Ahsoka could possibly lead him to Obi-Wan. Palpatine responds with “Perhaps… IF he lives.”

Rebels is too serious a piece of Star Wars content to be retconned. The writers need to tread carefully. Besides, the show is sounding like an adventure Obi-Wan has off-world, and I can’t see him risking everything - literally everything - to seek out other Jedi or something like that. And of course Vader and the Empire can’t know where he’s hiding, he wouldn’t risk them finding out either.

There are loads of lines from A New Hope that clearly suggest Obi-Wan has not appeared for 19 years: “I was but the learner” being one, other instances like Tarkin being sure Obi-Wan has died at some point during or after the Jedi purge. I’m still concerned about how this show will impact Obi-Wan’s overall story and even the story of Star Wars as a whole.
