I do think the sequel trilogy feels like a strange add-on to the saga because Anakin’s story ended in ROTJ and you’re just repeating a conflict which already happened. What I would have done it market it as a new saga. You have the Skywalker saga, TPM-ROTJ, and then the sequel saga, whatever it would be nicknamed. Even though I’ve never been fond of George’s idea of the correct watching order and like to view the original and prequel trilogies as separate entities.

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron (theatrical film for 2023) - a general discussion thread

https://deadline.com/2021/12/gal-gadots-cleopatra-paramount-falcon-and-the-winter-soldiers-kari-skogland-1234853027/

“Skogland steps in for Patty Jenkins, who was attached to direct and is pivoting to a producing role. Jenkins fell off as director so she could focus on her next two projects: Wonder Woman 3 and Star Wars: Rogue Squadron.”

Well, this confirms Rogue Squadron is still going ahead, which I’m excited about. Rumours about creative differences could have been totally false, we don’t know. But it does seem likely that Patty Jenkins really did take on too many projects and became overwhelmed.

What do you think is the most underrated Star Wars story?
Time

This can be a movie, series, book, game, whatever. I’m sure we all have at least one Star Wars thing we think deserves more credit than it usually gets, so, here is the place to highlight it!

Of course, it becomes pretty complicated because it’s difficult to determine what the general opinion on something really is - it all depends on personal experience and I guess also what portion or smaller community of the fandom you’re in. But let’s do our best anyway.

Anyone who has seen enough of my posts on here probably knows that for me, it has to be Star Wars: Rebels. I still think the series is the golden standard for character development and is the best Star Wars TV show we’ve had so far. I always see lots of praise and attention for scenes involving Clone Wars characters (the Ahsoka vs Vader duel and the Ben vs Maul duel are the two most viewed Rebels clips on YouTube, for example) but not as much for what they achieved with the new characters. Still, most of the overwhelming love for TCW today comes from the people who grew up watching the series, and I think we’re starting to see more and more of that for Rebels as well. Maybe soon enough it’ll be overrated, who knows?

I’m very curious to see other responses. Fire away.

after the duel against Vader, Ahsoka comes out of the Sith Temple. Later that scene was retroactively explained through the World between Worlds, but it was an unnecessary explanation. If they had just said that after the duel against Vader she survived and decided to live a quiet and happy life away from the great galactic conflicts, I honestly think it would have been much better

Trouble is, without her disappearing in the middle of their duel, for Ahsoka to survive she would have either beaten Vader or Vader would have spared her life, neither of which are ideal. I’ll see what comes in her story next but if it isn’t as imaginative as I want it to be, maybe she should indeed have died in that duel.

I agree that Mando Ahsoka doesn’t feel like the same character (mostly because of the inherently problematic transition to live action), and although I love The Clone Wars, I agree these days it’s very overrated. It does a great job of showing the scale of the Clone Wars, giving the prequel era the room to breathe it needed, but when it comes to character development it’s not quite as good and there’s a lot of uninteresting stuff between occasional highlights of the series.

Discussion: HASBRO'S Star Wars shitshow.
Time

It was always Lego sets for me growing up. Was really into those, stopped getting them now because I ran out of space a long time ago. I have a handful of Funko pops as well. But yeah, I’ve never got into action figures.

I know a few fans around my age (late teens, early 20s) who collect figures, they all complain about Hasbro too. And I’ve never met a younger child collecting action figures. You’re likely right that they aren’t as big a thing anymore. As for the future of going to an actual store and browsing, we’ll see. I think online shopping haa reduced the amount of people doing that but it won’t get rid of brick and mortar shops entirely. Personally I always make the effort to go to my local store for Star Wars things.

Rasputin was extremely difficult to kill, he was poisoned, shot, beat up, chained up and thrown into a river. His cause of death was drowning.

Nah, this isn’t because he was difficult to kill, but because his executioners were nerds with no experience. They shot him in the wrong spot, the poison was too low a dosage, etc.

The idea that he was just comically difficult to kill increasingly to the confusion of his assassins is much funnier though. (Sorry Rasputin for finding your extremely painful death funny but it was a century ago)

The Book Of Boba Fett (live action series) - a general discussion thread - * SPOILERS *
Time

Rodney-2187 said:

The krayt dragon in S2E1 of The Mandalorian was living in an abandoned sarlacc pit. Din Djarin hypothesized that it may have eaten the sarlacc and move into its pit. Is this the same sarlacc Boba was in?

But wasn’t that sarlacc pit in a cave, rather than a hole in the ground? Surely it can’t be the same location. I honestly think the best explanation might be that Boba had more gear than your average sarlacc victim and was able to claw his way out. The sarlacc likely died when Jabba’s sail barge exploded anyway.

Explaining how Boba parted ways with his armour might be more difficult. I can guess they might just not explain it, and we’d just have to accept that somehow Boba and his armour were separated for the sake of story convenience. But a cool explanation might be: after he escapes the sarlacc, he wanders (jetback is presumably broken) in search of life without food or water, and like Cobb Vanth, he is found unconscious by Jawas. Although the Jawas rescue Cobb Vanth when they later find him, Boba Fett’s villainous reputation comes back to bite him as the Jawas recognise him and instead choose to steal his armour and leave him for dead. I like that idea and it would really humiliate Boba, a big part of his ‘fall from grace’ that leads to him being a more honourable man in The Mandalorian.

I also wonder if we’ll find out that Boba got amnesia after being rescued. This would explain why Boba waited so long to try and get his armor back. Maybe Fennec knew Boba from before and helped him remember who he is whenever he saved her.

This is a very good idea. It would explain a lot, but also sounds like a whole other story worth a series in itself. I have a feeling it won’t be explained and we’ll just have to accept the time gap. I think the occasional holes in the writing of The Mandalorian season 2 lead me to expect that.

I’m also guessing that shot of Boba in the bacta tank isn’t from when he was initially rescued from the Sarlacc, but it’s something that he does at the beginning of the season to explain why he no longer has the facial scarring like he did in Mando S2.

And this is a good point. Didn’t even occur to me. In that case I’d guess the bacta tank is in jabba’s palace perhaps, and it’s the first time since the sarlacc pit he’s had access to good enough medical facilities.

The Book Of Boba Fett (live action series) - a general discussion thread - * SPOILERS *
Time

Definitely fair to say flashbacks are confirmed for the series now. Previous teaser had Boba in his old black robes, latest one has him in a bacta tank. That’s making me excited. I know I’d previously said I wasn’t really hyped for the show but… I’m going back on that now. Natasha Liu Bordizzo being cast as Sabine somehow made me more hyped for the Ahsoka series as well.

Also, The Book of Boba Fett is confirmed to be 7 episodes by the Star Wars social media account. Strange that it’s an odd number and not like The Mandalorian’s 8 episodes, but I’m glad they can take as many (or few) as they need to tell the story.

It’s fascinating how casually they drop the name, as if we were just supposed to already know who it referred to (not that it’s particularly hard to figure out based on the conversation).

Would some fans have already known because of other material, books or otherwise?

I miss Andi and Anthony on The Star Wars Show, no offense to Kristin Baver.

Agreed, they had such great chemistry together. Always enjoyed those videos and I have very fond memories of watching Andi host Rebels Recon after every episode when I was younger. I’d love to meet and thank her some day.

I find very few youtube channels I enjoy listening too regarding Star Wars. Star Wars Explained is one, and sometimes Hello Greedo. The rest are tiresome and I refuse to reward their click-bait efforts.

Star Wars Explained and Eckhartsladder are my regular two. Hello Greedo and AT-AT Chat are definitely good as well but I don’t watch their videos as much as I’d like to.

The reason they announce these projects so early is specifically to drum up fan hype (and to make the brand look appealing to shareholders).

I’m sure that’s backfiring right now! It does seem a bit of a mess. I will say though, the TV shows that have been announced seem much safer than the movies - Rangers is perhaps the exception because Carano got fired, but it wasn’t due to creative issues like some other troubled productions.

ZkinandBonez said:

The video I linked to probably sounded angrier in the title than what was actually expressed in the video, which was only mild frustration at the uncertainty of the new shows and movies.

Eckhartsladder is usually a bit like that I find. Often quite clickbaity titles, but in the video itself he’s really chilled out. I’m used to that now and love his content.

I was never bothered by Jar Jar when he was first introduced in TPM, but he really got on my nerves whenever he appeared in TCW, and I’m 100% sure that one episode where he’s the centerpiece was George’s final fuck you to all those who don’t like him.

Don’t forget the episodes where he teams up with Mace Windu and gets a girlfriend! The fact that they wisely left Jar Jar out of the show after the early seasons then inexplicably brought him back in season 6 in the funniest possible way always makes me laugh.

Maybe I’m just thinking of rumours, but in addition to ‘‘Ahsoka’’ and future seasons of ‘‘The Mandalorian’’, I recall there being something about her showing up in future seasons of ‘‘The Bad Batch’’ and ‘‘Rangers of the New Republic’’. The last might just have to do with the fact that they’ve said the three New Republic live-action shows will be interconnected, so maybe they’ll keep Ahsoka out of it. She’ll no doubt be in the movie that’s supposed to wrap them all up, though.

Yeah those are rumours right now. I don’t think there’s any confirmation she’ll be in The Mandalorian either. Plus, if you haven’t heard, we’re pretty certain Rangers of the New Republic is effectively cancelled, judging by a recent interview with Kathleen Kennedy.

The way I see it is that Ahsoka is one of quite a few main characters in TCW, a side character in one season of Rebels, a cameo appearance in The Mandalorian and now she’s getting a series which may not even be centred on her but on the search for Ezra Bridger (I know that seems strange because of the series name, but I feel like they’ve just named it that because she’s so popular, it is what it is). So I think the amount of big appearances she’s had is often exaggerated. Besides, I never see people complaining that other beloved characters like Luke, Leia etc show up all the time in expanded universe content.

The only episode I didn’t really like was The Jedi, mostly because I’m fed up with Ahsoka popping up in every single piece of expanded material

Outside of The Clone Wars where she originated, she’s in a handful of Rebels episodes and one episode of The Mandalorian.

She’ll also be in multiple shows going forward.

Multiple?

Jason Wingreen, disintegrated from history by Lucasfilm, for their new doc on Boba Fett
Time

Riquendes said:

I made the thread because I thought it was something that is interesting to us on here. I am mistaken, and will not make a thread again.

You’re not mistaken - I’m sure I can speak for most others who have commented here in saying I was glad to see this being highlighted and interested to discuss it (even if there isn’t much to discuss). For me personally, it drew my attention to Wingreen’s exclusion from the doc. At the time I’d noticed they used Temuera’s dubbed version with the usual mild exasperation, but it didn’t occur to me that Wingreen was the only one to contribute to the portrayal of Boba who wasn’t honoured by Lucasfilm in this short. I don’t think I’d have noticed it otherwise. Much as I’m happy to see Tem Morrison playing Boba in live action now, I love Jason Wingreen’s original voice work and this does sadden me. I’ve pointed it out to a few others outside the forum now as well.

I’d hate for this experience to put you off making any other threads in the future. I’ll always be interested in reading them
