Stop with the cancel culture, thank you.

The only way I can see someone being fine with Quantic Dream getting this opportunity is if you don’t care about workplace exploitation, harassment, and homophobia.

Cool. Please stay on Twitter, this topic was about the game and not anything you’ve been posting.

Everything I’ve posted has been relevant to the game. Paramount to everything we consider about it, in fact, because we can safely assume it’s being made under the same conditions. They’re struggling to recruit staff because of this.

Do you really not care about other people’s welfare so long as you get to play your video game?

The hashtag #BlackoutStarWarsEclipse has been coined on twitter. If it starts trending at any point, especially repeatedly like when fans were calling for Gina Carano to be fired, we might see some action by Lucasfilm Games. Mounting public pressure combined with a staff shortage at Quantic Dream may lead to the project (which is still in early development) being canned, or transferred to another studio somehow. Not sure if there’s a precedent for that.

You can read more about the campaign here: https://wegotthiscovered.com/gaming/star-wars-fans-coin-blackoutstarwarseclipse-vowing-to-boycott-controversial-developers-game/

And can read about Quantic Dream’s staff shortage, which could lead to a huge delay, here: https://www.glitched.online/star-wars-eclipse-3-4-years-away-as-quantic-dream-struggles-to-find-staff/

The Book Of Boba Fett (live action series) - a general discussion thread - * SPOILERS *

“These are just the first wave. They’re going to war” is an interesting quote.

Not long until the premiere, I’m looking forward to it for sure now. It didn’t take much extra marketing after that first trailer to convince me! I guess I’m just feeling the hype more and more.

Yeah, I’ve never played a Quantic Dream game before, I was just referring to the many allegations against them. The company filed libel suits against two French newspapers who had jointly reported sexual harassment, severe crunch, and bigoted remarks from executives such as founder David “we don’t make games for f*gs” Cage. It won one case but lost the other. Former employees have also spoken out about the environment of racist and sexist jokes, staff exploitation and photoshops of staff members’ faces on Nazis and porn stars.

I’ve already seen plenty of people wanting to avoid the game either because they’re LGBTQ+ and don’t want to support a company run by people who hate their existence, or because their conscience won’t allow them to enjoy a game likely created under these conditions, or both. It hits particularly hard because the High Republic has been a very inclusive, diverse era so far and personally I’ve seen quite a few LGBT people who have felt more welcomed in the fandom than ever before. This is a slap in the face for them. Partnering with Quantic Dream is terrible judgement by Lucasfilm games in my opinion.

Still… the cinematic trailer is beautiful. It sometimes feels like Star Wars, sometimes not for me. It seems heavily inspired by Dune and is breaking new ground with unusual imagery for the Star Wars galaxy. I can’t help but be a little excited that the High Republic is expanding into another medium, and a game will be exploring a new era again, like with the Old Republic games. This video by Star Wars Explained helped make me interested by what the story will be.

And yet still, I might wait to buy a used copy. I’ll see. I want to reward a game like this which seems bold and inventive. It’s just frustrating for me.

One thing you wish were still canon
Time

I wish the system - which I believe originated in KOTOR, which I’m currently playing for the first time - of lightsaber colours being chosen according to whether you’re a Jedi Guardian (blue), Consular (green) or Sentinel (yellow) was still canon. I like the idea of your lightsaber colour meaning something about you as a person. In canon, blue green and yellow lightsabers only signify that you’re probably a Jedi, and that’s about it.

There are novels and comics like Zahn’s original Thrawn trilogy, Shadows of the Empire and James Luceno’s Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader, that I love. But I’m actually happy with those being part of a separate timeline to make room for new stories. I don’t think Disney declaring loads of beloved Star Wars stuff non-canon was them tossing it aside and implying it doesn’t matter, canonicity was just the chosen system for distinguishing the different timelines. I’m fine with that.

I do hope they make the KOTOR games effectively canon by not straying far from the original story in this remake (and possible remakes of KOTOR 2 and SWTOR, who knows?) they have coming up.

Just seen something interesting, @AdamFrazier on twitter shared this (which someone on Reddit spotted before him): looks like Boba will be visiting Anchorhead, and it’s just like how it looks in the original deleted scene.

The Acolyte (live action series set in The High Republic era) - a general discussion thread
Time

This exclusive report from The Illuminerdi suggests that the lead role of The Acolyte has pretty much been cast:

https://www.theilluminerdi.com/2021/12/08/the-acolyte-amandla-stenberg/

THE ACOLYTE: LUCASFILM IN ADVANCED NEGOTIATIONS WITH AMANDLA STENBERG TO PLAY MYSTERIOUS LEAD CHARACTER: EXCLUSIVE by Caitlin Tyrrell

It has some more interesting tidbits about the nature of the role too. Amandla Stenberg goes by both ‘she’ and ‘they’, is lesbian, and is an outspoken feminist, which sadly means The Acolyte is only going to receive more hate from the usual trolls in this fandom. But fuck em. I’m very glad to learn a little bit more about the series as it’s one of the upcoming projects I’m most intrigued by, and with previous acclaimed roles in movies like The Hunger Games and The Hate U Give, Amandla seems more than capable of trying out Star Wars!

It’d be really fun if the first episode started with a recreation of the sarlacc scene from ROTJ but from Boba’s perspective. We see Luke, Leia, Han and company but from a distance, with different angles than those in the movie. Then, after the explosion of the barge, we see that Bib Fortuna survived and could have helped Boba to climb out of the pit but chose not to, explaining the post credits scene in the last season of the Mandalorian.

Ooooooh I like that a lot. I could see it happening. Very nice way to revisit previous events and set up the show’s premise.

I felt the shared history between Maul and Obi-Wan was wrapped up when Maul killed Satine in front of Obi-Wan. For me there was no more to it. When introduced in Rebels, all Maul has left is his hatred for Darth Sidious. He says as much to Ezra.

I did consider that Maul’s revenge on Obi-wan was murdering Satine, but he always intended Obi-wan to eventually die in a prison cell, so him still being alive after order 66 was unfinished business as far as Maul was concerned.

I’ve watched that and it is a FANTASTIC edit. Love it to bits!

Something I forgot to mention to explain my reasoning for why dying at Vader’s hand wouldn’t have been relevant to Maul’s story - Vader and Maul share little to no past history together, so it wouldn’t be meaningful. Maul and Obi-wan on the other hand…

Instead what we got was Maul still looking to pick a fight with Obi-Wan. Seriously, what a waste.

Maul’s story always had to end with Obi-wan. Since TPM his fate has been tied to revenge on Obi-wan and he’s had tunnel vision for that. In The Clone Wars, he vows “we shall start with revenge” and first takes aim at Obi. First him, then Palpatine. But he never even manages to kill Obi-wan, so it communicates the same, that Maul’s quest for vengeance against the Emperor was futile. It also provides a very interesting scenario where we know if Maul had won, he would have taken Luke as an apprentice, just like he would have done with Anakin in TPM.

Maul dying in a Vader vs Maul duel would have been pure fanservice and not relevant to his arc in the slightest.
