<strong>Rangers Of The New Republic</strong> (live action series) - general discussion thread (<strong>Cancelled</strong>)
Time

At least they’re doing something with the abandoned script ideas, I just hope it doesn’t overcrowd any future seasons of The Mandalorian. For me, season 2 already feels like it was trying to cram a few too many things (in this case character appearances) in.

Not sure if I like the strategy of announcing a new project before you’ve even got something solid to work with. But oh well.

Jason Wingreen, disintegrated from history by Lucasfilm, for their new doc on Boba Fett

Also, I couldn’t care less about Legos and I don’t even know what you are talking about in the last sentence.

The controversy generated around Slave 1 all came from when the Lego set released and it was just called ‘Boba Fett’s starship’. The story was that Disney were censoring the word ‘slave’ due to its sensitive nature, but it was all completely false. Nothing outside of the world of Lego sets changed. That’s what I know about it anyway.

And I was annoyed at you for bringing up such an idiotic point of discussion when this issue of Jason Wingreen’s work not being recognised is what’s actually being discussed in this thread.

<strong>Ahsoka</strong> (live action series) - general discussion thread
Time

I considered watching ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny’ to check out her previous work, until I saw the rotten tomatoes score…

Still, apparently that movie features Michelle Yeoh as a warrior who trains Natasha’s character in sword combat. It makes me think Michelle Yeoh might be very good as a live action Ursa Wren. Not sure it’ll ever happen though.

Star Wars: Dave Filoni Talks The ‘Thrilling’ Ahsoka Writing Process – Exclusive by Ben Travis

Very quick read if you’re interested. My main takeaway is this quote: “I thought of this adventure for Ahsoka for a long time and it’s interesting to see how it’s evolved … when you have other creatives like Jon Favreau, they can help lend such dimension and depth to what you’re doing.”

Great to hear Dave has had this story in mind for years and is finally getting to make it. His story planning on Rebels and now the Ahsoka series has really impressed me.

I only asked because that name is also getting the shaft from Disney, along with slave Leia.

I think an actor’s work being erased, overlooked and forgotten about by an official documentary is a little more important than a Lego set being titled ‘Boba Fett’s Starship’, yes.

Especially since that’s the naming process for all Star Wars Lego sets. I don’t remember you being up in arms when the Havoc Marauder got “renamed” as the Bad Batch Attack Shuttle, for example.

A '<strong>Rumour and News</strong>' thread for reported new Star Wars films and tv series

This does give me hope though. I’m not a huge fan of the ST any more, but I know no matter what your opinion of them is, we need to start exploring the era beyond them. So the president of Lucasfilm teasing a return for the characters being on the cards soon is a good sign. It’s also just nice to know there are projects in the works we don’t know about yet.

‘Star Wars: Ahsoka’: Natasha Liu Bordizzo To Play Sabine Wren In Disney+ Series’ by Nellie Andreeva

Outlets like Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter and Variety tend to be very reliable and often get information from big studio representatives themselves. Both Deadline and Variety have reported this. It looks like we have our Sabine, guys.

What are your thoughts on the casting?

The ‘Grushkov Music’ YouTube channel has composed some music as a soundtrack to Light of the Jedi. I’m listening to it right now and can tell it would be very nice to have in the background as you read. I always love to see when it’s clear a lot of time, effort and love has been poured into a fan project like this.

By the way, I’ve finally started Into the Dark. I’ve kept up with the main novels (LOTJ and TRS so far) and the comic releases but it’s a lot to keep track off and this is the first of the novels outside of the central story I’ve read. I already love Reath and it’s great Claudia Gray has chosen to focus on those who prefer reading about adventures rather than living them!

I respect Kamiyama and Aramaki but i still haven’t seen season 3 and 4 of SAC. The change from 2D animation to 3D that looks like a PS2 cutscene was jarring. Its the same reason i’m having trouble getting into Blade Runner Black Lotus.

Oh god, I didn’t know this. I’ve never seen 3D animation in the anime style which doesn’t look terrible to me. Trailer for Black Lotus included.

I believe 2D is far better-looking and much more affordable. No idea what the deal is with a bunch of animation directors switching to 3D. A recent Studio Ghibli film experimented with 3D and I really don’t think it looks any good. Maybe it’s the novelty of it that’s appealing.

“You should not have come back"

I’m not just talking about dialogue implications, I’m talking about the significance of that duel as the long awaited confrontation between Vader and his former master since ROTS, since Vader was “the learner”, as it was always meant to be.

In Return of the Jedi, Luke asks Vader to come with him, and Vader replies, “Obi-Wan once thought as you do. You don’t know the power of the dark side. I must obey my master.” To me, that plus Obi-Wan describing him as more machine than man, twisted and evil, suggests they must have met at least once where Obi-Wan tries to bring him back and fails.

That’s what I’m referring to - I hope Obi-wan attempts to bring Vader back to the light and fails, making for a compelling story and explaining those lines in ROTJ. If the series doesn’t even explore that, it will have failed the bare minimum to justify another Vader - Obi-wan duel in my opinion.

The Kenobi <s>Movie</s> Show (Spoilers)

I honestly don’t really like it happening at all, but I’ve accepted that it will. I think it’ll reduce the significance of their duel in ANH, but perhaps they’ll spin it in such a way that provides more substance to that or to other moments in the OT. For example, perhaps we’ll see how Ben came to completely lose hope in Vader ever being redeemed (as he says to Luke in ROTJ)?

Star Wars Video Games - a general discussion thread
Time

A movie or series set in the High Republic era I’d be a little skeptical about. An open world game however? Now there’s a thought.

Mostly because it would remind me of the Shadows of the Empire project. We’d get a nice game and some High Republic music as an added bonus. For now I can only dream…

Edit: just learned that Quantic Dream are the studio with an allegedly homophobic founder and CEO, and many allegations of toxic workplace environment. So, these are the guys supposedly handling the most diverse corner of the Star Wars franchise.

Really love this one. Reminds me of the Jedi Temple, especially the Archives section.

Jedi Fallen Order spoiler ahead: Second sister from JFO is in this one, even though the series takes place after her death. She’s most likely a placeholder for a different Inquisitor - possibly Fifth Brother from Rebels who is rumoured to be in the series.

Speaking of anime with a sci-fi plot, today I bought Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Partly interested because I love the original movie, partly because the series is from Kenji Kamiyama, director of the fantastic Star Wars: Visions short The Ninth Jedi. Anyway, that’s on my watchlist.

Currently I’m working my way through Jujutsu Kaisen.

I thought it was great. Safin was a really lackluster element for me, he was a villain with lots of style but zero substance - we don’t even know his motivation for killing millions of people. But I thought this was a very emotionally charged film and a great ending to the Daniel Craig films. I love how it returns to the gadgetry and campy action roots of the franchise while also taking unprecedented story directions.
