<strong>The Book Of Boba Fett</strong> (live action series) - a general discussion thread - * <strong>SPOILERS</strong> *

I actually predict Grogu will choose the beskar.

I do believe the choice he has to make is a very compelling part of the story, but it will make me sad if he’s back with Din so soon after he left. I think it’s already been brought up, but yeah that would undermine the emotion/drama of the season 2 finale ending quite a lot.

They completely ruined his character in Last Jedi, and now we are finally seeing him do something a lot of fans wanted to see from the beginning. TRAINING HIS STUDENTS. Not him being a miserable failure like they presented him in the ST.

I find Luke to be more out of character in TBOBF then he is in TLJ. As we see in that film, Luke nearly turned on Ben because of his attachment to Leia, Han etc (“everyone I loved”) and has yet another impulsive reaction to those loved ones being threatened, as he does in the original trilogy. In TBOBF, the man who has loved his friends for years and whose own father only turned back to the light side because of his attachment is strictly preaching the ‘no attachments’ rule and denying Grogu the relationship with his father figure.

Either that is setting up him trying to follow the ancient Jedi dogma too strictly and failing as he indicates in TLJ, or it is out of character.

A '<strong>Rumour and News</strong>' thread for reported new Star Wars films and tv series

Kid Focused High Republic Live-Action Series is in the Works | Exclusive by Jordan Maison

The only reason I pay attention to this is because Jordan Maison has been reliable for these kind of reports in the past. On a selfish level it’s a shame this is actively targeted at a younger audience, because the High Republic has mainly been quite mature and dark so far. However if it’s anything like the High Republic Adventures comic series by Daniel José Older, sign me up; I hope he’s the “member of the Luminous Team” involved with the story as well.

If anyone else is, like me, getting fed up of new series feeling the need to tie in to other storylines and beloved characters for cheap fan service instead of actually doing their own thing, I recommend getting into the High Republic. It’s seriously good but still gets overlooked a lot.

Reward Lucasfilm for the things they do that are actually worth your time.

I don’t mind fan service when it works with the story, not at the expense of it. The latest episode is the biggest example I can think of for working at the expense of the story. I mean, it really just felt like they switched priorities/focus just to show us some different stuff purely for the sake of it. And it really made it feel out of place for me. I’ve been wanting to see Ahsoka and Luke interact for a while, but all I could think of was, this is cool… why is it here?? It felt so cheap and unearned.

Luke and Grogu will probably tie into the finale to be honest but that doesn’t undo the damage they just dealt to the main plot of The Book of Boba Fett. Most people are in a Mandalorian season 3 / Ahsoka series mood now.

It feels like they should have just made a big Clone-Wars-esque anthology series about the New Republic, which gives them a bit more leeway to do stuff like that. I agree that the title implied that this was a story very focused on Boba Fett, and the marketing sold this as a dip into the crime genre for Star Wars. But not only that, that’s actually what we got for the first four episodes. It was established that Boba was getting character development - it wasn’t always consistent in my view, but I liked and admired it. The general feeling and direction of the show was also established. But as soon as we have some direction to the present day story, we lose it by going to focus on Din, Luke and Grogu instead (which is also totally different from the crime genre vibe we had) and suddenly Boba himself is playing second fiddle to a massive degree.

If you are creating an inter-connected timeline then you can do that by finding a reason for characters to show up in Jabba’s palace (and risk it feeling shoehorned) or you can take a sojourn to another part of the Galaxy (as the last two episodes did).

To be honest, taking a detour to visit a different planet with different characters for most of an episode seems more like hijacking the story than inter-connecting to me. I would have preferred characters showing up at Boba’s palace because at least then Boba would actually be there and it would feel like the same story we started out with.

Yeah…unless Grogu decides to stay with Luke. Except if he stays, he’ll get killed by Kylo Ren, so I’m assuming he chooses to go with Din…which makes me wonder what the point was of having him go off with Luke in the first place. I really have no idea what they can even do with Grogu going forward. I have a hard time imagining he’s gonna become an adorable little Mandalorian warrior, with a tiny helmet and jet pack.

My bet is that he decides to stay with Din, so Luke will deliver him back to Tatooine. Luke will then get involved with the war against the Pykes. I don’t like it, but I can see it happening.

I agree that if Grogu goes back to Din so soon it’ll take a lot away from the mando s2 ending, which will truly become the pure fanservice I’ve sometimes cynically looked at it as.

As for so many people enjoying this episode… most of the time, I’m glad to see different opinions. I’m happy when people find enjoyment value in things I don’t like! But with this, I can’t help but be frustrated that it’s getting more praise and excitement than episodes such as The Tribes of Tatooine, which actually do interesting and bold new things (such as exploring tusken raider culture to such an extent). It makes me think so many star wars fans care more about surprise character appearances, in any context, than actually good storytelling. And that’s just frustrating.

My suggestion? Add your opinion to things to balance it out. Get a rotten tomatoes account, an IMDB account, it’s quite easy - and give some episodes your honest ratings. I did that earlier today just to add my voice to the mix.

I really hate how they’re immediately undoing the ending of Mando Season 2. I was hoping we would get one season or at least part of a season where Din is on his own, dealing with all he’s learned and how he’s changed, as well as focusing on Mandalorian culture. Instead we only got one episode of that and in a series that isn’t even his.

I guess Grogu’s just too popular for it’s own good, though they easly could’ve had him pop up on his own in Ahsoka or whichever other series. The Din and Grogu reunion could’ve been really memorable if they gave it some time, but it seems they’re desperate to get back to the winning formula to the point they ripped two pages off of Boba’s Book just so we start Mando Season 3 with the duo back together.

Very well said.

That’s a shame. I had hoped they might be able to make Ahsoka’s head tails longer with cgi for shots where she’s doing stunts. For non-stunt shots she could just have a completely practical prosthetic with longer head tails, but a prosthetic where they’re cut off for stunts. That was my thinking.

I just don’t like how Ahsoka currently looks in live action and hope we’ll be back to good old animated Ahsoka soon enough.

Very nice find! That’s the biggest edit I’ve seen made to Bane’s face so far. From the distant shots for whatever reason I don’t like the edited version so much, but in the close-ups it looks great.

Bottom line is this tv show has been completely disjointed and weirdly produced. I don’t watch that many modern shows but from my experience I have never seen something like that, with such a poor narrative structure, such poor character objectives, unclear world building (I really don’t care about the Pike syndicate, the biker gang, the mayor, etc.: everything is highly uninteresting since the very beginning).

I agree. This is probably the worst structure to a TV show I have ever seen.

I know we have one more episode to go, maybe it’ll be awesome to watch and the Luke and Grogu stuff will actually connect to what is supposed to be the main plot, but I feel like it’s fair to say The Book of Boba Fett is my least favourite star wars series. I didn’t think they could do worse than The Bad Batch in my eyes but they’ve somehow managed it.

I hope I’m not raining on the parade of anyone who really enjoyed the episode - I can see why you did and am happy for you! But personally this show has me worried for how future series will connect to each other.

I actually thought Luke looked much better this time, and I’m glad they’ve improved on the technology. It meant an episode which featured mostly him was actually tolerable.

Except, I’m with you in feeling that this is the worst episode yet. It’s hard to wrap my head around how an episode can have so much good stuff in it yet be so fundamentally terrible. Throwing this storyline into a series that’s meant to be following a different storyline only damages both.

Robert Rodriguez wasn’t kidding when he said The Book of Boba Fett “way over-delivers”. What did I just watch? What show am I even watching at this point?

If transferring characters from animation to live action is so difficult, don’t do it. If trying to get different series to inter-connect with one another in a natural way is so difficult, don’t do it. It really is that simple.

I don’t have any evidence but to me, Beggar’s Canyon in the latest episode looks like a new miniature that’s just very accurate to the original version.

These two actually look quite different to me. Yes, the camera angle, FOV and lighting is different, but the rock faces look very different–i.e. the cracks and striations don’t match. They either went all out and made a new miniature for just this scene, or it’s a very good, nut not identical, CG model or digital matte painting.

I said that the set in the episode was “very accurate”, then found the comparison image, and realised after looking at it closely it actually wasn’t all that accurate at all (although definitely meant to be the same place).

It makes sense to me because over 40 years have passed since we saw the same location in TPM. Some things like the cracks being different can’t be easily explained, but different houses and differences nearly the tops of the rocks can probably be attributed to rebuilding and rock erosion I would imagine. Either way, it isn’t a big deal.

I also think this looks like a miniature set, which is impressive. I hope we get a behind the scenes feature for TBOBF like we did the mando seasons.

Interesting how much they’re throwing in the prequel references

That has been the case for all SW prtoductions released after 2005. Not even to mention SE references. Binding the 2 trilogies together has been one of the moto of all SW Productions even before Lucas sold to Disney.

Only when references are more necessary. At the start of Disney’s era of Star Wars they seemed hell bent on ignoring the prequels - The Force Awakens actively steered away from them and you can tell, meanwhile they announce two spinoff movies and a series set in the OT era. Dave Filoni perhaps chose to include a lot of Clone Wars characters, setting etc in Rebels because he knew there were many TCW fans that would love it, and Gareth Edwards included Bail Organa at the Yavin 4 base, but that’s mostly because it makes sense. Now the prequel references come totally voluntarily. Having Din fly an N-1 fighter and retracing the podracer route seems much more directly like a love letter to The Phantom Menace.
