Bad examples. These two are conceptually very different from Star Wars. When it comes to Indiana Jones and Dollars trilogy, storylines and characters in-between the individual films are practically not connected at all. I wouldn't call them a proper trilogy. While in Star Wars trilogy everything is very tightly connected.

When it comes to Lynch's films, I watched Dune and Mulholland Drive. They were both awful and I decided not to waste any more of my time on that.

The special edition of Star Wars should be similar to the last release of Blade Runner. No PT parasites, just visual improvements. And like with Blade Runner, they should release a theatrical version along with it. I prefer the last release of Blade Runner by far due the amazing visual improvements. However it is essential to have theatrical version with it, when you want to watch it.

If it is something that is completely unimportant to the story in the film, then I don't see why would you even care. In this particular case it seems to be just a matter of fancy background.
I want it all, and you can't make me not want it.
Apparently you don't want it all, as you won't play video games or read books to get it.
