we don’t get a chance to see the environments, etc.

Ha, I didn’t even catch this. Now is when someone complains that we see too many environments, like the Maz world or the Luke world.

I complain earlier about those two (especially Luke’s place) being bad. Yes, if it is a bad/unfitting environment then it shouldn’t be in the film at all.

Only if this tunnel’s intention is to throw everything out that enters it. Luke is thrown out in the middle of the tunnel, so we don’t know where it leads and if the lightsaber couldn’t have gone all the way through it and not be thrown out.

Of course there is an intention to throw things out. First of all, there was a mechanism that sucked Luke sideways (I guess to prevent stuff falling into some machinery further down the big vertical shaft). Secondly, the hatch inside the small side tunnel opened when it detected Luke and threw him into another tunnel with a direct vertical opening toward the planet centre. The intention of the system is pretty obvious.

If the tunnels intention was to throw everything out, why didn’t it end at the bottom of Cloud City? Why was it necessary to have another tunnel in the wall that opens conditionally? We don’t even know what triggered the hatch to open, was it Luke’s weight or was it just bad timing (just like it was bad timing that the trash compactor starts with our heros inside)?

I assume you arent an engineer. As I said, the big main shaft could have some function in making the whole city float or stabilised in orbit. You dont want any objects to hit whatever machinery is below, hence smaller side tunnels are there to suck any garbage and divert it.

Luke manages to fall off and survive… it’s really not that implausible that a lightsaber would do as well.

The side tunnel Luke is sucked in seems like it serves as a garbage disposal. He was about to be swept into the planet if he didn’t grab the antenna thing. Lightsabre would, as a normal garbage, fly into the gas giant and melt/disintegrate.

An OT “junky” who referred to Obi’s hut as a cave? Interesting.

It is never named in the film. So for a purist cave, hut or house is all the same. I actually like cave. It is kinda romantic. 😃

In the film…

Regardless of whether or not it’s named within the film, in both the OUT and the SE it’s clearly an artificial structure, not a cave.

Ffs the cave comment was beacuse the inside resembles a cave, not because he lives in one.

Your logic in this thread resembles logic in your head, not because it is logic to anyone else.

No Frink sorry, it’s just you.

The fundamental flaw with tfa is that it was rushed. From the moment Disney purchased I bet the pressure was on to get a film out ASAP and it shows.

I don’t think that was the main cause. I think they had to make something that would work for sure since it was their first product. The played it safe, went with proven concepts and rehashed stuff from OT. Actually, I expect more from stand-alone films since they will be able to experiment more. We will see.

Well then I’ll just start calling Star Destroyers “caves” because that’s equally stupid, named or not.

By all means, go ahead. Though it will not be as romantic.

The two lightsabre duels at the end were just stupid. They were there just for the sake of film having a lightsabre duel. And if they really had to make it like this, at least the dark side guy should kick both of their asses. And please spare your time, I really don’t want to hear dumb arguments such as: “but she practised with pole stick” or “he practised with stun baton”.

Ren was a poor villain

I wouldn’t go far but I’m sure the point of the scene is to show that Kylo isn’t as powerful as his walk makes him out to be.

Rey was simply lucky?

Pretty much just like Luke blowing up the Death Star. Both things were pretty much impossible but they both happened because it needed to be established that our main characters are uber special.

That is pretty much the opposite as it should be. Establishing a weak villain is a bullet in a knee for a film. If he kicked their asses and “sent” them back home training, it would at least add some motive to the story/characters.

I guess Rey’s journey means nothing to you.

If you take this type argument seriously then you could apply it to every little stupidity and nonsense as surely it is part of some “character’s journey”.

I seriously can understand not liking TFA. But putting it equal or below the PT is silly.

I generally like TFA and found it enjoyable… however some aspects are worse than PT. That much I have to be honest.

most fans, I think, see TFA being a step up from the PT, whereas I see it as being just as bad.

In some aspects it is worse than PT. The only thing that saves it is that it is actually fun (no annoying whiny main character).

For example, the two duels at the end are utterly pointless (on top of being stupid). Their sole purpose is for the film to have a lightsabre duel. I wonder where are those fans now who complain about Ewoks being a marketing move. At least Ewoks serve an important part of the story.

Ren couldn’t pull the lightsaber to himself cause it flew to Rey.

Why was it flying to her? Because she somehow managed to beat him when they were both trying to pull it. Even if she initially pulled it only by herself, he should be easily strong enough to pull it back to him while it was flying. Remember, this is the guy who stopped a blaster bolt in mid air.

Ahh why am I even trying to argue over this stupid thing.
