Disney Closing LucasArts

Well this sucks! Why close down a company that makes millions every year? It would be one thing to rename it something like "Disney & LucasArts", "Disney LucasArts" or "LucasArts Disney". But shutting it down? Looks like we will never get another Star Wars game ever.

They just shut down internal development department of LucasArts which haven't made a good game in a decade. I sure they will continue to license other developers to make Star Wars games, as they have now anyway.

And you saying, "we need to talk about more important things, like hunger in the world, and irresponsible Africans" accomplishes alot outside of making you feel smug?

Yes, we need to talk about irresponsibility. Who is supporting the African dictators who don't care for those things. We, the developed countries do. So we can exploit their natural resources. Who sells arms to Africa? We do.

If the media was after stuff that actually merits the attention the most then your multi-trillion debt would be the main news everyday. But who wants to hear about that, right? I mean no one would want to hear about their irresponsibility.

I not trying to be disrespectful or anything but I think these kind of events get way too much attention.

couldn't disagree with you more.   3 people died and many more have lost limbs.    Since the we haven't yet arrested the person or people responsible, this could happen again.   I'd say that merits attention.

Oh yes of course... since media attention and you discussing it on forums will actually help arresting the person responsible...

AnctuFaalb, I agree. Their main goal is to get attention. And people are giving it to them.

I do. that why I help out with my churches' food bank.

You might want to check some stats about world-wide hunger relief before you make those claims.

I hate to be realistic but just sending the food doesn't actually solve the problem. The country and its people need to get responsible and limit their population within their production capabilities. I mean "send us food and we will multiply" attitude is bound to hit the brutal reality of nature.

That's why I'm saying that I think Disney wants to put the Star Wars Franchise back in the mainstream arena, not just for kids...or diehard fans...think of the Marvel Films & the success of those movies.

At the minute the only Star Wars productions are being made for a specific audience, it is unfortunate and wrong to abruptly end the series, but I think Disney feels that it could spend its money on something that would attract a bigger audience

J

I have to disagree with that. The prequels were in the current mainstream and that is why they were so successful. They were made to appeal for as wide audience as possible. It is the OT that does not fit in today's mainstream.

Let's be honest, the prequels were bad (from our perspective) but they still made astronomical amount of money. It is quite naive to assume that today's general public and kids are after qualities of OT. Disney sure isn't after satisfying a few of us "old timers" with good taste in films. They are after money and they will make the films in a way to follow the today's trends and to appeal for the wider audience.

Yep, I agree, they made a lot of money, but Star Wars has got itself into a niche market, it's not mainstream anymore, I've got 2 kids one 13 and one 6, the 13year old had a lot of the figures & ships at the time, but they're in the attic....the 6year old is into Pixar Cars, Toy Story...all the current stuff....Star Wars doesn't come into it, I've tried the Clone Wars cartoon, but that doesn't hold his attention....it's too boring & nerdy.....his words

Disney wants the gold

Exactly. Now if the kids find even the prequels and CW cartoons boring then OT would be like taking them to the theatre to watch Shakespeare's play.

I really hope that Disney is taking a fresh look at what the general public think of what is Star Wars,....it's not the Clone Wars or Jedi & Sith....what everyone knows as Star Wars is the OT.

Focus on that....Rebels, Scoundrels, Empire & Bounty hunters=$ & £

Lucas has been sanctioning the prequel era stuff, I think Disney realises theres bigger money to be made elsewhere

What do you want for the future of Star Wars?
Time

I would prefer two scenarios. First is that the new trilogy would start where ROTJ ended. The story would be about slow liberation of the galaxy from the imperial remnant. But unfortunately the original cast is now too old for that. The other one is that the focus would on the new Jedi Order with various enemies (something like Jedi Academy game).

"In the wake of Lucasarts' closure today, Raven - the developers of the thoroughly excellent Jedi Outcast - have decided to release the source code for the game. Oh, and the code for its sequel, Jedi Academy, as well."

Awesome!

Some time ago they already released multiplayer source code but not SP. I hope they released the source code for maps too.

Well what can I say. The recent games (Force Unleashed in particular) sucked real bad. The last good story-driven games were KOTOR1/2, Jedi Knight 2, and Jedi Academy which was 10 years ago. Well I have to be honest SWTOR was quite okay from the storyline point of view.

I have no regrets for 1313. I had a feeling that it would be another Force Unleashed.

But you have to give credit to LucasFilm. The more stupid their products are the better they sell (example: The Prequels and Force Unleashed). It is truly amazing.

Palpatine's death was dramatic. Boba's death was played for laughs.

I have never found it funny. I find it rather ironic. I see it more in a way that even the best can go down in a clumsy way. It is like the legendary gunfighter of the "old west" Wild Bill being shot in the back by some nobody.

Still even if at that moment Luke cut him in two with a lightsabre instead, it wouldn't change anything character-wise.
