Blu-Ray Of Unaltered Original Trilogy Rumour
Time

PS: Off topic, but does anyone know *why* blurays end up with funky color grading? It's not a result of the transfer, is it? Is it just an attempt to make things look more "modern"?

The blue/green colour shift was done in 2004 DVD already.

Complaining about colour tone is kinda pointless. If you saw the original version in theatre the projector distorted the colours. When they did VHS transfer, the lighting they used in the process again defined the colours. If they used different conditions they would get different colours. And now finally, the colours burned on the film stock themselves might not reflect the colours that were actually perceived and set on the stage by director and DP (human eye).

On final note, most of the video software allows you to change colour properties quite easily. So if you like the faded colours experienced by the screen projection you can just lower the saturation.

What is the worst line in the Prequel Trilogy?
Time

Wolfman said:

"From my point of view the Jedi are evil"

Crap dialogue and crap acting.

That is quite the worst line yes but not for the reasons stated above.

The reason is that it makes it look like the dark side makes one stupid rather than evil. He knew too well Palpatine was the evil Sith who tried to take over the Republic (after all he personally admitted it to him before he went to rely this news to Windu). So after he turned (for the selfish reason to save his wife, NOT because he thought the Jedi were trying to stage a coup) he suddenly forgot all that.

And here is how it should have been... He traded the fall of Republic (helped a criminal, ie Palpatine) for his wife which is an evil thing. In order to protect himself from a persecution he should have willingly try to get rid of the Jedi.

Who should the villain(s) of the sequel trilogy be? (if the sequel trilogy has villains)

I particularly believe that lightsabre is more or less useless if one does not posses the ability to use force.

Which would make sense, if the lightsaber could only be activated by a Force-sensitive. However, most lightsabers can be activated with an old-fashioned push of a button. Han even uses one to cut open a tauntaun.

I think too many people put too much importance on the lightsaber as a Jedi weapon. It's a glowing energy sword, plain and simple, not the Ark of the Covenant.

I think you missed the point. I don't want any technological limitation. It is just that if a non force-sensitive used lightsabre to fight someone with a blaster, he would stand no chance.

It only make sense to use it when one possesses force power to predict opponents actions and blaster fire, and augment the strength and speed to be able to deflect it.

Pretty lame that they wielded lightsabers too.

I didn't watch the whole show, but I'm sure only Pre Vizsla was shown wielding a lightsaber, and it was a stolen lightsaber at that, so I personally don't see any problem with it.

The thing is that Jedi practise lightsabre day and night from a very early age and augment its use with the force in order to be able to compete with guys who use blasters. A non force-sensitive using a stolen lightsabre makes no sense to me.

I particularly believe that lightsabre is more or less useless if one does not posses the ability to use force.

Yeah Anakin as portrayed by Hayden was horrible.

Imagine if Lucas hired a decent writer, director, and actor it might have been compelling.

It was not the acting nor directing... if you write the character as unlikeable jerk then the character will be unlikeable jerk. Actor and director can only make it more or less convincing.

In fact, Hayden did an extremely good job in portraying that unlikeable jerk character.

And wasn't the point of the prequels to show that the Jedi are not superhuman?

The main point of the prequels was to show how a good person (Anakin) turned bad.

In reality it showed how Anakin was an extremely annoying unlikable jerk. See my signature for some additional info.

Yes, we've all seen your signature. Hoorah for you.

Nevertheless, it's only that sixteen years between films were you've decided to picture Anakin as the way you want him to be. There's nothing in the OT to suggest he was beyond reproach apart from Obi-wan, an old man who was telling it how he saw it and had a hidden agenda anyway - why would he tell Luke his father was an arse if he wanted Luke to honour his death and kill the man apparently responsible?

You have completely missed the point I was making. It is completely irrelevant if there is enough evidence in OT to support that Anakin was a good person. It was up to Lucas how to make him in PT.

However the point is that Lucas explicitly stated PT was a story about a good guy turning bad. This means his goal was making Anakin a good person. Yet the end result is that Anakin is a complete jerk. An apparent difference between what was supposed to be and the reality.

Now you can go back to my initial reply post and figure out what I was telling you.

Am I the only one who hates how everyone who turns to the dark side joins the Sith? It makes absolutely no sense to me. You don't switch sides upon becoming a bad person.

How is that everyone? That is most definitely not true for the EU sources I like.

For example in JK2 there is no Sith at all. In JKA, if you choose to turn your character to dark side you eliminate the dark side faction leaders and take thier power base for your own purpose.

In SWTOR, despite being heavily centred around Sith, you have many occasions when Jedi who trun to the dark side does not become Sith. In one instance there is a group of fallen Jedi who think current order is unfit and tries to take over and reform it. In another instance, if you have dark side alignment by the time your Jedi Knight character is to be promoted to Jedi Master, council refuses to grant you the promotion. Then a republic general gives you the rank of general in republic army instead, in a sense that the republic army does not care about the "Jedi crap" and just values competence.

The Standalone Star Wars Films

A suited Darth Vader chasing down Jedi film would make up for some of the stupidity of ROTS and could tie in with the Rebels series.

At this point I assume that the Rebels series is the same level of stupidity as PT. I would prefer they don't link it with OT/ST.

But the PT is already linked with the OT/ST. Along with Rebels before it even debuts.

Well of course PT has many references to OT. But from OT perspective, I can easily ignore PT and Rebels. However if standalone films will heavily link themselves to PT/Rebels then it is hard to ignore them without being forced to ignore the standalone films themselves.

Well it is very likely one of them will be about Han or/and Lando. Those characters were not touched by the PT so it leaves a lot of manoeuvring space. I must say that the idea of another actor playing Solo seems kinda bad to me.

Standard Star Wars film only explore a few planets. I hope these stand-alone films will give a considerable focus on locations and showing us as much of the galaxy as possible.

The Man Who LITERALLY Built Star Wars

His real skill isn't inventing but collage, of ready made ingredients so the set designs being made that way too is a perfect metaphor for this approach.

Well you are being a little stiff here. Almost everything in this world is either influenced by something that already exist, being made up with existing ingredients or just simply being discovered.

Steak is essentially made by an animal. A cook only takes the meat and other ingredients to make the food. Some make great food, others don't.

Newton did not invent the gravity, he just described what already existed.

There really isn't much that hasn't existed in some or other form.

I don't hate him though. The man was a genius (the operative word sadly being "was")

Lucas is no genius (not as a filmmaker, at least), but he did provide that initial spark, and that in itself is a pretty big deal.

Looking at his early films (THX, American Graffiti and OT), I can easily say he was a great filmmaker back then.

His best skill is (was) definitely mentally making stuff up (stories, characters, scenes, worlds, concepts etc.). However, you could say he isn't good at realising it by himself.

Busting the Myth's of the Star Wars Score
Time

Well if we are honest, Lucas was not the only person from the production crew who made stuff up.

For example at the peak of Lucas hating era, Kurtz tried to exploit it to make himself look good. In an interview he went on about how he left Star Wars because he didn't like Ewoks and the direction Lucas was going with ROTJ. While in fact he was removed by Lucas during ESB production and replaced by Kazanjian.

Another example, in his interviews Kershner always told this story about "I love you" "I know". He stated that they were repeating "I love you too" over and over again and that he didn't like it and then Ford just said the new line at some point. While apparently Ford was the one who didn't like it when reading the script and came to Kershner before they shot the scene with "I know" suggestion and then they did it.
