Return of the Jedi Renewed (released)
Time

If you have 2 different files then the free version of Mega will not work. You could only upload one. Unfortunately, the only realistic options would require some form of payment.

I personally like options from either Icedrive or Plcould that offer “lifetime” storage options. Several years ago I bought lifetime storage from Icedrive and it has served me well for all my files over the years as I keep adding to it (I have used 55% of 1 TB). I do not remember what I paid, but their prices (like everything else) has gone up.

If you believe you will need long term storage for a multitude of files, then it may be a good investment to pay some money now, but have large storage always available for the long term.

I do see Pcloud has a Black Friday sale for: 500 GB for $139; 2 TB for $279; 10 TB for $890.

These lifetime deals can save you a lot of money versus paying constantly for a subscription. It definitely has saved me money. Basically, use this method if you will actually use the storage space and will plan to use it for the long term. The investment is worth it. I know money can be tight now for lots of people unfortunately.

You may or may not be comfortable with soliciting donations, but considering you clearly forth lots of effort into the edit, some people would probably chip in and help you get the storage space if it means they get to enjoy your edit. However, I think that may be dangerously close to directly charging for your work. I do see others accept donations for materials and equipment so I think it should be okay for cloud storage.

Short update: The edit is almost done.
My only problem is that I used to upload my edits on Google Drive, but this edit is a bit larger than the space that’s given with a free account.
Alternatives to upload my edit and maybe make it watchable without having to download it?

How large is the file?

If I understand correctly, you want people to stream it without downloading, correct?

I think other editors could probably give you better answers than me, but I know Icedrive allows for 10 GB of free storage. However, that does not seem like enough.

A popular site I see many editors use is Megaupload, which allows 20 GB free, but they impose many restrictions on free accounts.

Another possibility is archive.org, but I do not know anything about what they offer at all.

The Clone Wars: Refocused [COMPLETE]
Time

It has been many years since I watched the Clone Wars. I do not remember where I left off, but coming across this felt like I could start over again and watch a more streamlined and higher quality version.

I will start with the spreadsheet. The editor put in quite a bit of effort to have it organized. I found it very generous of him that he provides different recommendations for how to watch these. I personally went with the “recommended” method of watching these. I liked the inclusion of version numbers, length, and when they were last updated. I am someone that likes to see good organization because that typically (but not always) means good quality.

The only minor issue I had with the spreadsheet, which is excellently put together, is that I at times lost track of the line and had to keep scrolling back and forth left and right on the page to figure out where I was. It could be beneficial to cut and paste the right portion of the spreadsheet to a new sheet in order to minimize the clutter on one page. However, the editor should obviously do what works best for him because other than that I have felt his work has been great so far.

Thus far, I have watched the prologue and season 1, episodes 1 - 5. I cannot comment on changes he made as I have no recollection of specific details of the episodes besides general information.

Starting with the prologue, this was the only episode that I found awful. I do not blame the editor, but I was not impressed when I saw the Jedi flying along with 3p0 walking around in disguise for no reason. It definitely felt like this was something meant only for very small children to watch and appeal to nobody else. I understand why he included this intro - as we get to see Grievous, Ventress, and Anakin become a Jedi knight to set up the actual series. I think the editor should include a warning very similar to his episodes 1 and 2 about powering through this if someone does decide to watch.

As for the actual clone wars series, I like the opening for every episode, but even more importantly, the use of introductory text. It really allows the audience to understand what is happening right at the get go, rather than having to watch the first few minutes confused and possibly never figure out what is happening. Confusing the audience always = bad idea. Besides, Star Wars should give us the ‘opening crawl.’

I disagreed with the editor describing the first 2 episodes as weak. I did not find them to be good, but they seemed okay and passable as opposed to my personal animosity for the prologue. They were definitely watchable in my estimation.

I found episodes 3 - 5 to be very solid.

Overall, I did not notice anything out of place visually nor with the audio in what I watched so far. This is a comment from someone who is a non-editor, so somebody else might find something out of place.

Return of the Jedi Fan edit
Time

I want to bump this thread to bring another edit to the attention of the editor that reminded me of this one:
https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Return-of-the-Jedi-Radical-Re-Edit-Released/id/15435

In the radical re-edit, there are 2 versions, with one containing a subplot with Boba Fett. I just saw the subplot involving Boba, and it may be useful to incorporate brief aspects into your edit as Boba is also in Endor going after Luke, Han, and the rebels. However, the footage used was from a fan film, and therefore not exactly the best.

If you do decide to incorporate portions of the fan film, then it likely would need to be cleaned up. I think the portion that fits your edit is about 25 seconds with Vader giving the orders to get Luke and Han.

One way or another, your edit seems like a monumental task, and I commend you for giving it a shot. Whenever it is released, it will definitely be something special.

I also note, while I do not personally consider it a big deal, the words “death star” are used a few times throughout the movie. You did mention having Vader say starkiller base instead. In other references, do you intend to replace the words, trim them out, or leave just leave it alone?

Return of the Jedi: Radical Re-Edit (Released)
Time

While I do not have access to the edit, I did watch the opening provided in the link. That was very impressive. I really liked the transition from the deleted Vader scene reaching out to Luke through Luke constructing the lightsaber.

It goes without saying that moving the Dagobah portions of the movie to the beginning is much better as well so at least we infer there is more training involved instead of the shotgun approach of the original.

I am not sure how the removal of the sibling connection looks like because I obviously do not have the edit, but it is curious to see how it works when that is removed.

Has anyone successfully removed the Luke/Leia attraction from ANH and ESB? It’s only like a handful of lines and the kiss scene and obviously goes nowhere, would be much better without them.

I made a personal fan-edit of ESB, and removing the kiss was one of the choices I made. I ended the scene with “Who’s scruffy looking?” and then the next shot Leia looking angry at him. I moved the audio of the guy on the intercom telling important personnel to report to the command center forward to explain where they’re going before wiping to Ryken. It kinda has the same effect, leaving the tension between Han and Leia unresolved. It’s not as funny and I don’t think it’s perfect but it does the job and keeps the most iconic lines.

It is kinda a shame because without the context that they’re siblings the scene is really funny and it’s objectively well-constructed, but the retcon kinda makes it uncomfortable to watch, so IMO it still kinda had to go.

If you do not mind me asking, are you planning to share your edit of ESB? It is okay to say no.

Also, within the same movie, I was always confused about Vader’s motivations. Why does he initially try to freeze Luke and want to hand him to the emperor, but later wants to cooperate with him to kill him? I think I am missing something here as it seems contradictory.

SC 38 Reimagined Classic Merge (fan edit short)
Time

I have just come across a new edit of SC 38 reimagined on Reddit. My understanding of the rules here are that links for work like this are permitted because it is short and to demonstrate quality. I apologize to the mods if I misunderstood as I am not looking for trouble.

I have link to the Reddit page and the brief clip.

I want to make it clear that this is NOT my work. I am curious as to what other editors opinions are of this “merge” by the editor.

Rogue One Fan Edit
Time

I am looking forward to this edit much like your Return of the Jedi edit. As I look through the list of 80 edits, I find myself looking forward to nearly all of them. I do legitimately like what you are intending to do with nearly all of it.

I do have some questions/concerns:

  1. When looking at the planet titles, I do have a personal bias in that I did like them as I am not good with names, and it helps me identify where we are. I know those titles are inconsistent with other Star Wars movies, but it does help me prevent getting the locations twisted in my head. This is obviously not the biggest deal in the world.

  2. As for the deepfake, will you also deepfake Leia at the end? In other Rogue One edits, Tarkin and Leia look very realistic. Are you making your own version?

  3. I am curious as to your logic from removing Vanee from the movie. I liked his presence and getting to see Vader in the bacta tank. I thought it humanized him for a bit right before he intimidated Krennic.

  4. This is not much of a concern, but as far as I know you are the only editor who will give Vader a younger James Earl Jones voice. It obviously was not his fault that his voice sounded a lot older considering in real time there was about 40 years between the release of A New Hope and Rogue One.

  5. Towards the end of the movie, does it fit adding in Vader’s command to “increase firepower?” In the movie, Tarkin states he will command the Death Star and Vader will focus on going directly after the rebels and the plans beamed on the ship. It also seems a bit odd to increase power on a weapon that blows up planets.

I will say, I actually do like the line inserted into the movie. Nothing wrong with giving Vader more dialogue. I do have mixed feelings about this though.

In terms of other possible edit ideas, there are some from the Hal9000 edit of Rogue One that I thought worked well when I watched his. These are his words:

  • “Removed showing the audience Cassian’s instructions to kill Galen Erso. By removing this conversation as well as its reiteration in a later scene, it adds weight to Jyn’s comment about trust going both ways and keeps the audience in Jyn’s perspective.”

  • “ Trimmed Bohdi’s hesitation in assigning the new makeshift crew a callsign when pulling away from the Rebel base.”

  • “ Modified R2-D2’s red/blue light to match its style of appearance in ANH (FX by Burbin)
Removed Jyn’s line to Krennic, “You know who I am,” as he appeared sincerely not to.”

Regarding R2D2, I see you mentioned making him more noticeable, which likely makes this edit idea redundant anyway.

Best of luck with this. Your edit of this movie certainly appears like it would be my favorite one when it is all done. I felt some of the other edits of the movie were very aggressive cutting out various entire scene. Based on your words, I enjoyed the movie as much as you did.

STAR WARS - EPISODE I - The Ancient Lore [V2] [IMPROVED Version]
Time

I first and foremost want to say that is it really to your credit that you are fixing this movie. Out of the Lucas Star Wars movies, The Phantom Menace was one that I did not believe could be redeemed through editing alone. The entire structure and plot of the film needed fixing.

One thing I will say is that there are other editors using the Australian dub for JarJar. You could consider using that as I find his voice a real nuisance. I could not stand it even the little bit I saw of him in the Hal9000 edit of the movie. I apologize in advance if you heard this already.

I know you said you were possibly making a canon compliant version of the film, and I do know I am one of those in favor of that. However, any improvement in this movie is a welcome addition. Besides, the Lucas Star Wars films were not exactly canon compliant either.

As for the Obi Wan character, I see you plan to have him impatient and aggressive. Does that ever manifest in the form of action, or only words? I say this because in the OT, Kenobi does inform Yoda he was reckless like Luke in his youth. This is also a way to help with his character development demonstrating through action rather than words. I apologize if you already indicated this was part of your plan.

maybe my commentary track sheds light on it around that part of the movie.

Yes, it does.

Your reason was that it seems weird to show a scene where Yoda sense Anakin’s pain only for Yoda to then do nothing about it.

I’d say that’s true, and you implied this, both from a character perspective and from a storytelling perspective. Obviously it’s strange to see that Yoda knew Anakin was suffering (and doing terrible things) and never acted on that information in the future, but it’s even stranger that there is no payoff to the scene of any kind, as if the scene was just thrown in at random.

Thank you for the answer. This is the clarification I was looking for. I agree with the reasoning here.

Does anyone know if there is a high-quality deepfake of Hayden as Darth Vader when Luke removes his helmet? I’ve seen a couple of these on youtube, but I’m looking for someone more polished.

There is a newer version on YouTube dated July 12, 2022. It is included in a fan edit as well. On Reddit, look up Return of The Jedi: The Expanded & Enhanced Edition.

I hope this helps a few months later.

Hal’s Rogue One edit (a half-assed version of DigMod’s) (Released)

I just saw the edit. Before I watched I was concerned that the removed portions of the movie would be problematic. Instead, I liked it better. The portions you removed were either redundant or unnecessary and helped keep the action flowing much more smoothly.

Job well done. It was also nice to see Tarkin and Leia look more real with the deepfakes.

Can I have links for these edita?

I’m doing new versions of my prequel trilogy and I kinda already deleted my old ones unfortunately, so you’ll kinda have to wait till then. Sorry.

I am looking forward to these edits. The concept of Australian JarJar is great. It sounds like your edit is the only one that completely removes this “character” and we get a brand new one.

I also like the changes you have for ROTS. I agree with you entirely that the other edits were a bit aggressive.

The one issue I am torn about is the youngling murders. It really demonstrates the evil depravity of Vader like we see in a New Hope where he has no issue taking out an entire planet. On the other hand, I agree with your logic that his turn needs to be more gradual and removing the youngling murders makes Padme seem more reasonable trying to bring Anakin before he really goes off the rails.

I hope to see these soon. One thing I would suggest to take a look at is adding clips from the other Star Wars shows. I really disliked the Kenobi series, but I did enjoy the flashback scene of Kenobi and Anakin having a practice duel. It could be nice to incorporate.

I know other edits have these excessively long cuts of ROTS adding from other shows, but I am not comfortable mixing in cartoons. I do think some brief snippets could enhance the movies however.

Return of the Jedi Fan edit
Time

I do want to start off by saying that nothing I say is a personal attack. I really like that you are trying to make something unique and different. I like that creativity and willingness to take the risk. I am really looking forward to this edit.

Also, some questions: what quality will this work be in? Any information about visual enhancements?

I am personally a proponent of the Hayden force ghost because I would have no idea that Shaw is Anakin Skywalker if I saw the original movie and never bothered to look him up. I could not recognize him in the movie with all the makeup on him after the mask was removed. That ghost would look like some random guy.

Your other edits have me very intrigued. The obvious one is the Vader “no.” Most people find it completely unnecessary.

On to the actual changes - I really like dumping the Death Star for pretty much anything else. I found it awkward that the Empire would build another Death Star after the failure of the first one (this was just sloppy writing for the movie). This is a welcome addition.

I like adding the deleted scenes you mentioned. I may have missed it, but would also consider adding the deleted scene where Luke constructs his lightsaber.

I think it is good to reduce all aspects involving Jabba shenanigans. I was not a fan of it in the movie. I thought it took too long and was very cringeworthy. Same can be said for the Ewoks. Less is more.

Changing some characters in the movie is interesting, but I would need to see the movie to determine how I feel. I also think it is a bit risky expanding the role of Boba Fett. He is a bounty hunter and expanding his role to be a key person fighting for the empire could be misplaced. If you use him like this, then perhaps some background as to why he is effectively now a soldier for the empire versus a hired gun. I do like that you are attempting to expand his role. Your version of Boba surviving also makes a lot more sense than the Disney version of it.

As for the ending, I do like all the planets celebrating because it really hits that a galactic empire was defeated rather than have a small group celebrate on one planet. We all have different views on this.

You could also consider removing the Leia line to Luke where she always “knew” she was his sister. It was over the top in my opinion. There was another fan edit that apparently incorporated lines from Battlefront between Luke and Boba.

I am editing to clarify whether you rearranged Luke on Dagobah before going to rescue Han?

Would it be possible to have a copy of this edit? That would be much appreciated.

As an aside, I know that editors are not supposed to profit from these edits, but as someone relatively new to this, I am curious as to what would be considered ethical here. I do know that I could donate directly to this site, and will look to do that.

Is there an ethical way to reward editors for their hard work without crossing a line?
