Star Wars: Kenobi | A Star Wars Legends Re-edit [WIP]
Time

As someone who truly enjoyed your Way of Mandalore edits, I am looking forward to this when it is eventually released.

There have already been numerous discussions and edits over how to resolve the issues with the show. What is the feasibility of the 2 meetings between Vader and Kenobi being done in the format of a dream and/or force vision? That could be a possible way to “explain” the problems with their interactions without twisting yourself into a pretzel and avoid the VFX work that creates new additional problems to resolve. I personally would not know how to fit that in without looking out of place.

In terms of your story having consistency with legends - yes please! I loved the notion of Kenobi as a hermit. That was my initial expectation for the show, but instead we saw him bouncing around the galaxy in a very sloppy manner. I would be very curious how to reconcile the semi-reclusive Obi-Wan with what we have in the show. This is something I wish was done from the very beginning. Is it possible to expand on this with the footage currently available?

Revenge Of The Sith: Alternate Intro
Time

I saw your alternative introduction to the movie, and I really liked it.

One of the biggest issues I had with this movie is that we are constantly told, but not really shown the scale of the clone wars. The audience would have no idea about the extent of the clone wars without watching the animated series. The movie should be able to stand on its own without the need to incorporate a television show.

Your approximately 30 second intro immediately gives the audience at least some indication that we are in the midst of an all out galactic war.

As you said, I hope more edits incoroporate this or some variation of it.

I’m working on an adaptation of the scene from the Vader comics where Vader finds out that Luke is his son. I’ve hired a voice actor so far, and am working on compiling footage that can realistically fit into ESB. My idea is that it’ll play out at the start of ESB, but end on Boba leaving Vader in silence. Then, either the end of ESB or the beginning of RotJ will show the scene with the flashbacks, cementing the previous reveal.

This is an excellent idea - having the comic book adaptation inserted into the movie. It makes it more clear later when Vader is talking to Sidious later on that he is deceiving him. Boba is also with an expanded role and screen time for a character that would in later movies and shows have his role expanded.

I would be hesitant using flashbacks. Flashbacks were not used thorough out the OT nor PT. Personally, I like the use of flashbacks, but it would stand out in a Star Wars movie. However, perhaps you could incorporate it in a way where it does not feel out of place. I am looking forward to what you accomplish with this.

Restoration of Darth Vader Deleted Scene from Return of the Jedi
Time

Thank you for the work restoring deleted scenes.

Do you have any plans restoring the ones from A New Hope? Those ones would be the most challenging because the quality is extremely poor. In particular, I liked the deleted scene where Luke looks up with binoculars to see the space battle. I think that gives us a much better introduction to his character.

Hal, I want to apologize on behalf of the poster above who should be instantly banned and have his post removed.

You put in several years of hard work and care into your edits and provide numerous resources to assist others with their edits. You always come across as helpful and polite in your online interactions that I witnessed.

One thing I liked since joining this forum is the largely civil discourse when there are disagreements. I find nothing worse than posters who make threats while remaining anonymous. It is both unacceptable and cowardly.

Star Wars: A New Hope DEVASTATOR EDITION (V.2 a WIP)
Time

I just want to say I would like a link to when this is eventually completed.

I saw in a prior post that this project was temporarily abandoned, but I am really glad that you continued with this.

On another matter, since coming across fan editing a few months ago, the biggest shock is how much memory and storage required to do this work. I read articles explaining why, and it shows you cannot get away with a cheap laptop.

I want to thank editors for volunteering their time and money for the fans.

The Clone Wars: Refocused [COMPLETE]
Time

I have some brief comments about S04E10 - THE COSMIC FORCE.

I really liked most of the episode, but some portions of it I thought could be trimmed or modified.

 1. The Anakin execution of Dooku with the two lightsabers resembles what we see in ROTS. I feel it effectively functions as a spoiler if someone never watched these before.

 2. I felt the scenario of Anakin helping Yoda escape from his medical “prison” came off as far too childish. Yoda is considered the wisest of the Jedi, nearly 900 years old, but is treated like an irresponsible child that is not allowed to control his own life.

He also behaves childishly asking Anakin to help him escape because of his history of disobedience. Perhaps this can be modified in a way to appear that Yoda leaves of his own will without resistance along with Anakin’s assistance.

Moving to S04E02 - THE LIVING FORCE, I liked 99% of how you structured the episode. My absolute favorite cut was the Vader shenanigans. I thought that was far too aggressive with the foreshadowing.

The foreshadowing issue is also where I feel problems arise. Shortly before Father dies, he informs Anakin that he could bring balance to the galaxy, but also provides him with some caution as well. While his prophecy was not completely definitive, I still feel it is a little much with blatant foreshadowing. I do not feel as strongly as this one, but I have always been hostile to the Anakin Chosen One prophecy as it makes it too obvious what happens in the end.

Andor: The 7 Episode Cut (Released)
Time

For those who watched this edit and the Disney unedited version: Would I be missing anything if I only watch the edited version? Does the cut material have enough relevance to the show that I would feel as though I am missing out?

WitchDR: If you are looking for a new title, how about, Star Wars: Ascent of the Empire. This title focuses on the present empire versus the past republic and I feel is more in line with other Star Wars titles that focuses on what happens in the present versus the past.

Has anyone ever attempted to edit ANH or ESB to create some form of connection between Vader and Leia where he senses something with her in some shape or form?

If you are going to jam in Leia as his daughter, why not try to develop a relationship between her and her father? I have always thought that was one of the bigger weaknesses in making her Luke’s sister and Vader’s daughter at the last minute. The father-daughter relationship was never explored, nor developed properly to add another source of tension.

I personally have no idea how it could be done without seriously disrupting the movies, but some of you folks here are clearly creative enough to figure this out.

Making the Obi-Wan & Anakin training session (From the Kenobi series) work in an AOTC edit.

Are there any official fanedits that have incorporated this training scene into AOTC? Snooker’s concept video is amazing and I was thinking it might already be perfect enough to slot into my own personal edit.

What do you consider as official? The only one I am aware of that uses it is the “Bebert Cut” that can be found on Reddit. I mostly liked it, particularly the musical score, but I was not impressed with the de-aging in my opinion. There was also a botched transition towards the end of the flashback that gets cut when Anakin charges at Obi Wan.

The Snooker version is visually superior to what I saw in the edit and complete. However, I would prefer a different musical score. It felt a bit out of place for me, and some of the dialogue was hard for my ears to pick up as it was swallowed by the music.

Return of the Jedi Renewed (released)
Time

I was finally able to extract everything with thanks and gratitude to Adywan and the naming convention suggested by Atom-88.

For those having issues, I was able to extract the rar files by using the naming style recommended by Atom-88 and using the latest WinRar on my Android phone (Galaxy S20+). I am not sure why my computer would not work, but I did have a workaround.

I skimmed through some clips and I must say the visuals are absolutely stunning in the edit. Your edits of the space scene planets, stars, and others were a real pleasure to watch. I will watch it in whole soon.

Hi, I have the files but I’m unable to unrar them. Are they corrupted?

I was unable to unrar at first, kept tellinh me that rar001-002 is missing. The files just needed renaming the last 3 digits of the file to matche the file 1 (e.g rar001-002, *rar02-03 needs to be rar002-003 and so on). Hope this helps anyone else experiencing the same issue.

This did not work for me unfortunately. I was only able to extract part 1, which was about the first 15 minutes of the movie.

This is odd because in the part 1 rar file, I can see the movie it has prior to extraction. Parts 2 - 9 do not show any files within the rar files. I find this strange because in the past I did something similar to this with rar files with Adywan’s ESB with no issue.

Star Wars Rebels Recut - A Fanedit TV Series
Time

I have went through season 1 of your edit. This work was very well done. Unlike Clone Wars, I have only watched a few episodes of Rebels in the past, which makes most of the material new to me.

Season 1 was very entertaining and well done. This was a show meant for children and came across as adult friendly 99% of the time. I never felt like I was watching any filler, and the character development clearly was maintained thus far.

I am not sure if musical score was added, but I liked how it was incorporated whether by the editor or original show creators.

The only minuscule “issue” I found was that there were a few moments where there were some clear choppy cuts. I could tell that something was obviously cut, but I do not really consider this that much of an issue. The 3 or 4 choppy moments I noticed lasted less than a second and I would much rather see a split second of choppiness as opposed to a bad scene and/or bad dialogue.

When it comes to this show, I feel that both this show (and Clone Wars) are better viewed in episodic versus the movie format. It works much better. If somebody wants to watch this show again or for the first time, this is the edit to go with that sticks to a solid story without the fluff.

If you have 2 different files then the free version of Mega will not work. You could only upload one. Unfortunately, the only realistic options would require some form of payment.

I personally like options from either Icedrive or Plcould that offer “lifetime” storage options. Several years ago I bought lifetime storage from Icedrive and it has served me well for all my files over the years as I keep adding to it (I have used 55% of 1 TB). I do not remember what I paid, but their prices (like everything else) has gone up.

If you believe you will need long term storage for a multitude of files, then it may be a good investment to pay some money now, but have large storage always available for the long term.

I do see Pcloud has a Black Friday sale for: 500 GB for $139; 2 TB for $279; 10 TB for $890.

These lifetime deals can save you a lot of money versus paying constantly for a subscription. It definitely has saved me money. Basically, use this method if you will actually use the storage space and will plan to use it for the long term. The investment is worth it. I know money can be tight now for lots of people unfortunately.

You may or may not be comfortable with soliciting donations, but considering you clearly forth lots of effort into the edit, some people would probably chip in and help you get the storage space if it means they get to enjoy your edit. However, I think that may be dangerously close to directly charging for your work. I do see others accept donations for materials and equipment so I think it should be okay for cloud storage.

Short update: The edit is almost done.
My only problem is that I used to upload my edits on Google Drive, but this edit is a bit larger than the space that’s given with a free account.
Alternatives to upload my edit and maybe make it watchable without having to download it?

How large is the file?

If I understand correctly, you want people to stream it without downloading, correct?

I think other editors could probably give you better answers than me, but I know Icedrive allows for 10 GB of free storage. However, that does not seem like enough.

A popular site I see many editors use is Megaupload, which allows 20 GB free, but they impose many restrictions on free accounts.

Another possibility is archive.org, but I do not know anything about what they offer at all.

The Clone Wars: Refocused [COMPLETE]
Time

It has been many years since I watched the Clone Wars. I do not remember where I left off, but coming across this felt like I could start over again and watch a more streamlined and higher quality version.

I will start with the spreadsheet. The editor put in quite a bit of effort to have it organized. I found it very generous of him that he provides different recommendations for how to watch these. I personally went with the “recommended” method of watching these. I liked the inclusion of version numbers, length, and when they were last updated. I am someone that likes to see good organization because that typically (but not always) means good quality.

The only minor issue I had with the spreadsheet, which is excellently put together, is that I at times lost track of the line and had to keep scrolling back and forth left and right on the page to figure out where I was. It could be beneficial to cut and paste the right portion of the spreadsheet to a new sheet in order to minimize the clutter on one page. However, the editor should obviously do what works best for him because other than that I have felt his work has been great so far.

Thus far, I have watched the prologue and season 1, episodes 1 - 5. I cannot comment on changes he made as I have no recollection of specific details of the episodes besides general information.

Starting with the prologue, this was the only episode that I found awful. I do not blame the editor, but I was not impressed when I saw the Jedi flying along with 3p0 walking around in disguise for no reason. It definitely felt like this was something meant only for very small children to watch and appeal to nobody else. I understand why he included this intro - as we get to see Grievous, Ventress, and Anakin become a Jedi knight to set up the actual series. I think the editor should include a warning very similar to his episodes 1 and 2 about powering through this if someone does decide to watch.

As for the actual clone wars series, I like the opening for every episode, but even more importantly, the use of introductory text. It really allows the audience to understand what is happening right at the get go, rather than having to watch the first few minutes confused and possibly never figure out what is happening. Confusing the audience always = bad idea. Besides, Star Wars should give us the ‘opening crawl.’

I disagreed with the editor describing the first 2 episodes as weak. I did not find them to be good, but they seemed okay and passable as opposed to my personal animosity for the prologue. They were definitely watchable in my estimation.

I found episodes 3 - 5 to be very solid.

Overall, I did not notice anything out of place visually nor with the audio in what I watched so far. This is a comment from someone who is a non-editor, so somebody else might find something out of place.

Return of the Jedi Fan edit
Time

I want to bump this thread to bring another edit to the attention of the editor that reminded me of this one:
https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Return-of-the-Jedi-Radical-Re-Edit-Released/id/15435

In the radical re-edit, there are 2 versions, with one containing a subplot with Boba Fett. I just saw the subplot involving Boba, and it may be useful to incorporate brief aspects into your edit as Boba is also in Endor going after Luke, Han, and the rebels. However, the footage used was from a fan film, and therefore not exactly the best.

If you do decide to incorporate portions of the fan film, then it likely would need to be cleaned up. I think the portion that fits your edit is about 25 seconds with Vader giving the orders to get Luke and Han.

One way or another, your edit seems like a monumental task, and I commend you for giving it a shot. Whenever it is released, it will definitely be something special.

I also note, while I do not personally consider it a big deal, the words “death star” are used a few times throughout the movie. You did mention having Vader say starkiller base instead. In other references, do you intend to replace the words, trim them out, or leave just leave it alone?

Return of the Jedi: Radical Re-Edit (Released)
Time

While I do not have access to the edit, I did watch the opening provided in the link. That was very impressive. I really liked the transition from the deleted Vader scene reaching out to Luke through Luke constructing the lightsaber.

It goes without saying that moving the Dagobah portions of the movie to the beginning is much better as well so at least we infer there is more training involved instead of the shotgun approach of the original.

I am not sure how the removal of the sibling connection looks like because I obviously do not have the edit, but it is curious to see how it works when that is removed.
