PS78: Pre-ANH Star Wars Bootleg VHS from 1978 ***"RAW" DVD RELEASED***
Time

Can't wait for the audio....I snagged a couple of the raw captures last night. I missed out on the initial uploads so I have not heard any of audio yet. I scanned through the caprture I got and they look great. I skimmed through all of the posts.....but I did not see a definitive conclusion of where this one came from? Has anyone identified it yet?

Man...Ady....all I can do is say Thank You for your dedication and hard work. I do not post here much because this crowd can really nit pick at others art. I know that is the point of the fan edits...but in this thread...you are the artist and everyone else should just sit back and enjoy the scenery.

Again...don't get bogged down with what others want because in the end we will all enjoy your creation. The day we are paying you for your hard work...maybe the outside opinions could mean something....until then....your vision and your vision alone will keep us coming back.

Hey all,

I have been away for a while and wow.....this thing is really moving. Great participation from the forum! There have been some really good ideas thrown. Vanderios has some really good ideas.....some I would never even thought of. Vanderios.....you should really post some of your "Best of Shots" sometime.

Ady,

Wow.....after the first one you said you were not going to have to change much. You are taking your skills to the next level.....and really have not "changed" much so far from your samples.....you are really enhancing the experience. Us true fans could never thank you enough. Looking forward to sharing this one with all of the friends.....who by the way keep asking...."when is the next revisited coming out?". And I say, "When it's Done!".

Has anyone had any issues burning the repack......it fails on mine half way through on two different tries? I am using image-burn and have it set to the UDF2.5? The DL's I could find were cheap Memorex ones but I burned EPIV that way and all was fine. If anyone has any ideas just let me  know:)

FYI - Got it to work with daemon tools and nero disk copy. Not sure why the image burn kept getting write errors  on the layer switch???

Well....personally I love the Gray/White Ties much better. When I was a kid I hated the one blue tie I had. It did not really go with the rest of the Empire Toys! I always had it in my mind from when I was a kid that the only reason the ties were blue is because of how "cold" Empire was and that kind of left the mood sad and cold. Does not make much sense to me though.

I still have two Tie Toys.....one is White and the other is Blue. Whenever I have put together Tie Models I always painted them gray/white. Even the Empire Ties I put together.

DIE BLUE TIES:)

I think ESB:R will greatly benfit from the color correction Ady is doing especially the changing the blue ties if he so wishes:)

I just wanted to say "Thank You Ady!!". This is a great version of the movie. The closest we will get to a true HD version w/ proper coloring. I would assume LFL will put out a Blu-ray version based off of the 2004 DVDs master and will still have the blue tint and wrong light saber colors. It looks pretty good......at that high of resolution you can really see the imperfections in the costumes and makeup jobs:). Vader's mask is horid and R2's dome...well you can see the paint strokes. I like it:)

I do still prefer watching Revisited upconverted though:)

Think you are a little off by just saying the "Blu-ray" encode will be better than this one. Look at the difference between the 2004 DVD and Revisited. Ady's versions no matter what will probably look better than any of LFL versions of the film officially released on blu-ray unless his group does the same thing Ady is doing and fixing the color problems. And yes.....with proper encoding a 9GB version can look just as good.....mainly becasue alot of the blu-ray movies are not much bigger any way. The movies are around 12-15 GB and the extras on the rest. There are still alot of the movies coming out on the single layer blu-rays. Don't get me wrong.....there are many on the dual layer ones and the movies are much larger so the picture looks better in the dark and bright sequences. Do not discount Ady's versions as just re-encodes because I will put money on it that his versions will look better picture wise then the LFL releases.

Actually you are both correct. Most USB drives come default format of fat32.....all you have to do is right click on the USB drive from my computer and choose format. Make sure you choose NTFS so it will allow a file larger that 2GB. That should allow you to copy to the drive......you could always create a share and copy it across your in home network as well:)

Just watch the NTSC-DVD9. Very nice indeed. I really liked the Alderann Extended Scene. Very nice addition. I also really liked the comparison Feature of the DS Battle(Moth3r Style). Thank you again for the wonderful vision and dedication you had. This is truly a complete work of art you did what no one else could:)

Just watched the PURIST edition. I have to admit that I do prefer the Ady original over the PURIST. I really enjoyed having the music from the PQs in the OT. To me the Vader/Obi fight had alot more meaning with the EPIII music that they fought to the first time. Same with the briefing room......the music really let's you know who is in control of the Empire eventhough we never see Palpatine. And last.....you just can't beat the Ady Death Star Battle Spectacular!!!!

It was cool to see the same edit from a slightly different perspective but the original REVISITED is my new and only verison of EPIV.

Thanks again Ady!!!

It uses the 2004 DVD 5.1, the SE laserdisc 5.1 & extra effects from my star wars effects library. I was able to gain better separation by adding more sound effects and ambience where needed and also rebuilding the complete mix from the ground up in places. It was surprisong to me just how bad the official DVD mix is. not only do you have reversed music in the rear channels but hell of a lot of the sound FX are coming from the incorrect sides in the front channel. Ben Burtt made one hell of a cock-up with this mix. I can't see how the hell anyone at ILM couldn't have spotted this.

I'm still not 100% happy with the mix and i might be doing some more tweaking for the final release. As it stands now i'm about 90% and i doubt i will get it to 100% but there are a few things i want to redo for the DVD-9's

That is absolutley amazing.....when listening to it you would think you had what Ben should have had at his disposal to create the sound track. Even though you may not be 100% happy.....it is 1000% better than it was and I would put money on it everyone is more than 100% happy with it. In alot of ways the way you mixed the sound is what gave alot of the movie its new life. Yes I love all of the visual stuff as well but everyone knows a good sound track makes the movie and the detail is just awesome. Thanks for the answer!

The problem is with the original 2004 mix in that the sound FX have been boosted so much that they drown everything else out (Never let a sound Fx editor do the movie sound mix). Even the laserdisc 5.1 suffered with this problem in places so i just did the best i could with the mix. If only i could get hold of the original surround mix from the 70's i could have done hell of a lot better with the audio.

I really like both mixes......I do think your first mix had the sound FX a little more even through the L,C, & R. Each time I watch....I really notice the how you have made so the FX coming from the right side actually are in the right channel for example. It seemed....especially in the 2004 DVD that the sounds really bled over into other channels.

How did you break the sound up like that without having the multiple master audio tracks?

Is your tweaks just frequency based?

Well......I figured out a way to get DVD Movie Factory to re-write the VOBs without going through a complete re-encode.....and it worked on all 3 HD-DVD players!!!

It imported the settings from the original DVD, I removed the chapters, did the default chapters just like before (Every 2 min), and it took about 15 minutes to write out a new VIDEO_TS folder (After about 6 or 7 tries).

The whole 15 minutes was spent re-muxing the audio since the video did not get re-encoded.

Just got done watching the whole thing from begining to end it it was nice!!

Unfortunately DVD Movie Factory does not understand any of the menu structures and such so it is a bare bones presentation....I put the disclaimer video, the Adywan Productions Video, and then it jumps straight into the movie. Looks better upconverted with the HD-DVD player than it does with the PS3. The black levels are smooth and with the color correction that has been done it was superb. Ady's work is pure genius. I even check the bitrates on specific scenes and they match exactly to the original. So this is a pretty decent work around if you have one of these players. It took all day....but not bad compared to the work Ady has put in Hell I did not really do anything but change settings, wait, and try it.

So I guess I just have two versions in the case now.....one full blown masterpiece and one version that works on the Toshiba HD-DVD players

The audio change I think is a good one. Because you told us what you changed I think I noticed a couple of times where the center channel may have a little over bearing during some of the action scenes (every where else center sounded perfect).....but it still sounded tons better than I have ever heard Star Wars before. Because I was focused on the sound so much I bet it has always been that way with the center channel unless it was not noticable until you turned down the L&R.

Thank you again Ady for the hard work, dedication, and a version of Star Wars that will be in all of our history books!!!

Just imported the VOB files into DVD Movie Factory (Not a very good program quality wise but a quick re-encode)......removed all of the chapters......added new ones (Default every 2 min) and burned the new VOB files and it works. It is the movie only but does not lock up and the counter keeps on going. Need to find some time to sit down and watch to see if it messes up in other places.

So......using DVDSHRINK no worky........completely remaking the DVD from the main title seems to fix what ever is not compatible with the Toshiba HD-DVD players.

Does not make much sense....but I guess it is what it is. I will say this.....I do not think it is worth stripping it down for yourselves unless all you have is the HD-DVD player. If you have another way to watch the original Ady DVD.....I would not bother with a re-encode. I have many other ways to watch the DVD but just wanted to figure why it was not working and come up at least with one way to be able to watch it in those players for those who may not have another.

So....I would assume most of the cheaper consumer friendly DVD applications will probably produce this same result. I just do not know what the difference is in the actual DVD its self

Just tried the REPACK......unfortunatley it still has the exact same problems in the exact same places on all 3 of my HD-DVD players.

Freezes on the Menu Transition from Revisited to the XWINGS - EDIT: Clock Never Starts during the STAR WARS IV Revisited Logo Hit Next and skips to :30 into the Play Menu
2:13 - Clock stops and freezes shortly after
5:30 - Clock stops and freezes shorty after.....and so on.

Ady,

I really appreciate you trying to get this thing working for all players but it seems like a deeper problem with the players on how they play regular DVD. I had every finger, toe, and legs crossed on this one but no go. This is the first time I have had any problems with regular DVDs on these things but whatever the problem is.....it is consistant and definately a bug in the playback compatibility.

This is still one of if not the greatest SW Fanedit DVD I have ever seen and you deserve all good things that come to you.

EDIT: I do like the how you moved Yavin over......you know it is still there but the explosion keeps with the black background and looks really good.

Maybe it will work on Covenant or BMadden's HD-DVD players as they have different ones than I do.
