The Rise of Skywalker: Ascendant (Released)
Time

I can encode and provide clips of Rogue One sequences in 4K if anyone needs. Either in native HDR, or “SDR conformed” in 4K native if needed. I used the entire film for my own 4K HDR Rogue One/ANH edit.

If someone can provide me a timestamp, I’d be happy to upload a clip.

So I’m beginning the long process to edit the remaining small arcs of the show, as well as the longer season 7 arcs. Seasons 1-6 content will again be upscaled to 4K HDR while season 7 was animated in native 4K HDR already and will recieve the same encoding methods as applied in the ROTS 4.5 hour cut, keeping all the native color data intact.

There will be 10 2 part 42(ish) minute film cuts, 9 solo episodes, 3 season 7 film cuts (including a bonus cut of Siege of Mandalore alone, separate from the ROTS cut), and a bonus edit for the Crystal Crisis Animatic to go with the Son of Dathomir Audio Comic edit. To keep the files all in the right order, I’m updating the chronological order of releases as follows. Don’t pay too much attention to the numbers themselves, other than 1.0, 2.0 releases designating cuts from the first batch that are the most crucial to the plot of the show. Beyond that, the numbering system just ensures the episodes will be put in the right order when all cut together. Only one file will need to be renamed to fit in order due to a small continuity error, and that’s the Young Boba Fett arc (renamed from 1.4 to 1.01). All other files will keep the same number.

I will NOT be doing a film cut of the Rookies arc due to the idea that you are meant to watch Domino Squad grow over the course of the war, so I will be leaving their episodes as solo adventures and putting them in the right spot with this numbering system. Solo Episodes will still get the 4K HDR treatment and then that source will be downscaled back to 1080p SDR in the batch for consistency’s sake, as even at 1080p, there are some benefits to the new color transfer.

I would love to make a special project of some kind for Dark Disciple, but I sadly can’t think of any reasonable way to edit the novel into a more digestible/viewable form without requiring some kind of extensive fan art archive to cover the visuals. My goal is to get this project wrapped up sometime over the next 2 weeks.

Also enjoyed your ROTS immensely. Honestly could’ve sworn that it was a professional cut if it weren’t for the 2003 scenes. Imo, those stand out too much in tone and style to fit in properly with the Lucas/Filoni stuff. The two jumps to Coruscant also feel weird.

Your New Hope supercut was great too. Liked how natural the deleted scenes felt.

I did refine one of the transitions to Coruscant a bit in the latest edit if you’ve not seen it yet, but beyond that my hands are tied by what the source material allows me to do. I’ve experimented with several different transitions and the one you see in v3.0 works the best by far with what I’ve got.

Obviously, the 2003 series is going to be a jarring contrast to the rest of the content, and there are several versions of this cut out there by many editors that choose not to use it, but I felt strongly that an extended Battle of Coruscant was part of the story, particularly since its events get namedropped during the 3D arc, and also because I have vivid memories of watching the show before ROTS even came out. I expected Lucasfilm to reanimate those events in some way, but when Filoni and co chose not only to not animate it, but even reference the 2D series directly, I felt that I had to at least try to present a version where they were all one story. Heck, it was arguably one of my motives for doing the entire edit to begin with. I’ve trimmed bits and pieces here and there to make it flow a bit more coherently with canon, updated the Grievous voice to use Matthew Wood quotes, and other smaller details that some people might not even be aware of.

I’m glad you enjoyed the rest of it, and the Episode IV cut too. I hope you at least keep this in mind why I made the choices and I appreciate the rest of the feedback. If you haven’t seen it yet, go and grab the latest version of the Episode III too for future viewings if you wish.

Would you recommend watching all your TCW films in the order they’re numbered? (Batch one all the way down the list, batch two all the way down the list, etc.)

And the list above has several episodes to watch on Disney+. Would it be fine to skip these and just watch what you’ve done? I’m more than okay with missing some stuff and getting the best and/or most important parts.

Is what you included in your Siege of Mandalore cut of ROTS available elsewhere in your material, or just there? I don’t want to miss the end of TCW if I skip it.

Also, should I watch (your version of) the TCW 2008 movie first, or is the relevant stuff included in your other TCW film set?

Man, this whole set looks like a TON of work.

Of the stuff I’ve released so far, here’s the viewing order that’s included with the latest batch. All of the show’s most important plot related episodes are included within Batches I and II alone, while batches III (and eventually IV) will include less crucial stuff (though still very many enjoyable arcs).

The Clone Wars Season 1 Content:
The Clone Wars 2008 Film Extended Cut
0.1 The Malevolence Film Cut
0.3 The Gunray Chase Film Cut
0.7 The Battle of Ryloth Film Cut

Season 2 & 3 Content
0.8 The Second Battle of Geonosis Film Cut
1.0 The Mandalore Plot Film Cut
1.1 The Menace of Cad Bane Film Cut
1.4 The Young Boba Film Cut
1.9 The Heroes on Both Sides Film Cut
2.0 The Nightsisters Film Cut
3.0 The Mortis Film Cut
3.1 The Citadel Film Cut

Season 4 & 5 Content
3.3 The Mon Cala War Film Cut
4.0 The Battle of Umbara Film Cut
4.1 The Slavers of Zygerria Film Cut
4.2 The Rako Hardeen Film Cut
4.3 The Rebellion of Onderon Film Cut
4.4 The Young Jedi Film Cut
4.5 The Droid Adventure Film Cut
5.0 The Return of Darth Maul Film Cut
6.0 The Wrong Jedi Film Cut

Season 6 Content
6.1 The Order 66 Arc Film Cut
6.2 The Banking Clan Film Cut
7.0 Yoda’s Journey Film Cut
The Son of Dathomir Audio Comic (Bonus)
Revenge of the Sith - The Siege of Mandalore Cut

The film cuts labeled 1-7, and the TCW 2008 Extended Film cut which introduce Ahsoka Tano are THE most essential, which is why I released that batch (and the Extended Film edit) first, while The Order 66 Arc from Season 6 (6.1), and the Rako Hardeen Arc from Season 4 (4.2) are also fairly important, though not AS crucial overall. The rest are great, but much more optional. The Numbering system was designed so that I could add to the existing order without needed to change file names and don’t have too much meaning beyond that. The Bonus audio Comic also has some semi-important events, but is an arc few people will ever see since it’s an unused set of television scripts that was adapted into a comic (and then given some solid voiceover work by a well known youtube channel).

The Revenge of the Sith/Siege of Mandalore Cut is also pretty crucial, as a lot of stuff happens in the TCW Finale that will connect with later lore in the Disney canon. If you wish to watch my cut, you can, or if you prefer to just watch Season 7 on D+, you also can. Of course, it’s hard for me to separate the two now since they’re so intricately connected in my brain, and the S7 finale was obviously written with ROTS in mind to add to its events. The first arc of Season 7 (The Bad Batch), which I have not done a cut of yet will also be a setup for the upcoming spinoff show, which will be kind of a Season 8 continuation of TCW in a sense. However, the other 2 season 7 arcs are otherwise not all that essential. Everything I have not edited yet from seaons 1-6 is either a solo episode, or a less crucial 2 parter.

I was wondering why did you pushed Yoda going to Dagohbah after Vader and Sidious watching the construction of the Death Star?

As best I can recall, I believe it was because it was the most natural break point in the music to fit an extra scene in there. When I experimented with it based on script placement, it didn’t sound quite right the other way.

It’s been awhile since I made that edit, so my memory will be a bit vague on why at the time, but that’s what I can most directly recall. Ultimately, I’m happy with the choice now and intend to keep it as it is.

And yes, I’d love it if more deleted scenes were intact and usable, as I tried to use as many as I reasonably could in the Episode I and II edits.

Regardless, I’m very happy with this updated v3. Any future changes will most likely be reserved for updates for content from the Bad Batch arc ‘if’ it can be done tastefully (I could already see myself syncing shots from the Bad Batch Trailer with the clones to Palpatine’s actual speech, but that also depends on context and timing of the events of those episodes).

Just skimming through your ROTS cut, and I noticed that the elevator antics deleted scene was missing. I was wondering why it isn’t in here given it doesn’t have any unfinished VFX, or is it just a creative choice to leave that scene out. I was looking forward to seeing it in context.

Feedback aside, I’ve finished watching your Clone Wars microseries episodes and as someone who’s never seen all of them, I never would have guessed these were meant to be watched any other way. The 4K HDR conversion looks lovely, and I assume it helps having some sort of high quality source for it.

I’m planning on watching your TCW 4K cinematic cuts very soon. I’ve been making my way through the show again and just got to the Ryloth arc, so I will be watching that edit next!

You’ve done some great work, and I can’t wait to see what else you have in store!

Appreciate the feedback.

With the exception of Yoda’s arrival on Degobah, the scenes I chose to restore were scenes that…

A. Specifically tied into either the EU of the ROTS Era, or even current canon. (Same Mon Mothma actress as in Rebels, and the rest of the Senators showed up in material like James Luceno’s Dark Lord novel. Vader even kills one of them).
B. Had completed FX and required very few editing workarounds to include.
C. Did not explicitly contradict any other elements of canon and helped to enhance/expand the Star Wars universe without breaking it.
D. Were actually in the Matthew Stover ROTS novelization, so would have been considered canon back during the film’s release period.

Though Elevator Antics passed C, it failed all the other considerations, so I left it out. For these exact same reasons, I couldn’t include either Shaak Ti death. My goal is truly to make cut feel as much like an authentic LOTR style “Extended Edition” as possible (different art styles aside), while still being internally consistent and as lengthy as possible. This is why I also tweaked elements of the 2D Clone Wars series in the cut to fit better with official canon. Very minor bits, but the changes are there.

Plus, funny as it is, Hayden making R2 noises is definitely a bit out of place even for Lucas’ usual droid humor.

I am not planning on Sequel Trilogy edits at this particular time due to the lack of proper deleted scenes for them. For now, I’m recommend Hal9000’s ST edits to people since I find them to be the best alternative to the official release, as most of what I’d want to do was already done in that version.

That’s not to say it’ll never be happen (despite the general controversy of the films, extended edits of VII and VIII could be interesting projects), but for now I just haven’t had the right inspirational spark to do it yet. The lack of official TROS deleted scenes really hurts that prospect.

The 9 additional cuts of Clone Wars Related Film Edits are now live. The new arcs cover 31 more episodes from Seasons 1-6.

The 9 New Feature Length Cuts will cover…
The Malevolence Arc – Season 1 (3 Episodes cut into 1 film) https://youtu.be/3AcCMBtVTHI
The Gunray Chase – Season 1 (3 Episodes cut into 1 film) https://youtu.be/DXp0mF1Fi44
The Young Boba Arc – Season 2 (3 Episodes cut into 1 film) https://youtu.be/dkf_KKZBbUQ
Heroes on Both Sides – Season 3&4 (4 Episodes cut into 1 film) https://youtu.be/SsoMPbVfbBo
The Mon Cala War – Season 4 (3 Episodes Cut into 1 film) https://youtu.be/m_E_ioqC08M
The Slavers of Zygerria – Season 4 (3 Episodes cut into 1 film) https://youtu.be/S0O7eEe6B1Y
The Rebellion of Onderon – Season 5 (4 Episodes cut into 1 film) https://youtu.be/4qnea57rDlQ
The Young Jedi - Season 5 (4 Episodes Cut into 1 film) https://youtu.be/9qnvj6fNLoY
The Droid Adventure – Season 5 (4 Episodes Cut into 1 film) https://youtu.be/TbfPgC21C9s

Just like with Batch II, the file names use a decimal numbering system so you can put these new cuts in the same folder as the cuts from Batches I and II and they will all be in the proper viewing order automatically. Don’t pay too much attention to the numbers themselves. Just know that cuts 01-07 (from Batch I) are considered the show’s most crucial episodes to future plot points as of now.

My intent is to eventually release a 4th batch that covers all the remaining 2 part episodes from s1-6, upscale the few single episodes without editing them, and ‘maybe’ do some cuts for the Season 7 arcs as well (they are already released in 4K HDR on D+, but film edits might still be nice).

I’ve also made some small tweaks to the ROTS edit (mostly audio and a small number of transition changes) and will be updating those links in the coming days with the new v3 release. You can see the updated first 3 minutes of the new version here, where I have replaced the narrator to make it flow a bit more like a regular saga film:

The Clone Wars: Refocused [COMPLETE] + Subtitles for season one!

EddieDean said:

Oh, you absolute beauty! I had the impression you weren’t going to produce a third batch, but that’s fantastic news! They all look lovely, especially the richer colours you’ve been drawing out.

One thing I noticed while watching your edits which might be challenging for my own, was that in some places where you’ve joined two episodes together you’ve introduced a little overlap, in order to keep the transition smooth. Obviously that’s eminently sensible since you’re aiming to present the arcs as complete units, but it does mean that the odd shot or two that sits around the transition point may not be used in your cuts, and therefore may not have been upscaled? I may find that the ideal case would be to include one such cut shot, in which case I assume I’d have to rely back on the original Bluray rip version rather than your upscaled/recoloured version - unless you are doing your upscaling/recolouring in advance before cutting episodes together and could make those edits available?

One other question: Have you made any changes to the sound mix? Clone Wars is relatively easy to edit in its original form because its voice/SFX and music are in different channels, so you get a lot more flexibility with cuts. Have you passed through the audio unchanged?

Either way, I’m hugely in your debt, so thank you for this! It was your edits which sparked the original idea for this project, so without yours, this wouldn’t exist.

In almost every single episode I try to ensure every new shot is used, with a few rare exceptions…

Off the top of my head…

  1. The number of shots I don’t upscale in the opening of each episode is extremely small. A few shots were cut from the opening of Season 1 Ep 16 and Season 2 Ep 16 since they both were prequels to the film and I had to get creative to make the film’s new longer “opening” seem more coherent. I rearranged the order of these shots to make it work, but kept most of them. Senate Murders is missing one or two shots of Padme’s crew in the opening since it would be redundant, but I used the rest (like the shot of Senator Burtoni showing clone Phase II armor). A few shots are missing from the intro of the 3rd Umbara episode, if I recall, and Landing at Point Rain I had to cut new shots of Mace and Kenobi talking since I couldn’t find appropriate voice clips to fill them with. Beyond that, I can’t recall any other bits with missing footage. If I had to guess, the entirely of shots I have cut from 90+ episodes of content so far comes down to less than 30 seconds of footage.

  2. I use music and SFX to replace the narrator whenever possible in order to extend and preserve these extra scenes. (my favorite trick is pulling from the KOTOR I and II OST, though I use the show’s own OST a few times.

Here’s a sample of how I’m doing it in the upcoming ROTS v3 edit. Every new scene from the opening is preserved, I just update the audio to flow better as the introduction to a “Saga film”:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1B-yAzEm58&feature=youtu.be

And here’s a sample clip from the Maul Film where I merged the end of Season 4 with the start of Season 5 and reconstructed entirely new sound to make it work (the lightsaber fights of Savage and Maul killing Jedi were redone from scratch):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmxBk5zTGfk

I do not have unaltered upscaled episodes, as the 4K HDR rendering is done with the edits timelines are already in place, so many episodes will now have Lucas/style wipes in their transitions. Of course, these affect only a few frames of the show each, but a few frames may get cut in some cases to make this work.

I hope that answers some of your questions and gives you a better idea about my process. My intent is to preserve/recut the show as reasonably intact as possible, and I have largely succeeded so far (less than 0.01% of the show is “missing” from these edits). And of course, I don’t yet know the challenges for editing the remaining 2 parters, but I suspect they will be easy as 99% of the time, sequel episode recycle clips from the previous episode through most of the narrator’s introductions. Of course, the first episode of each arc is 100% intact.

Also beware that these edits are encoded in x265 for the most efficient and highest quality compression, and since it’s the standard for 4K HDR streaming, which they look fantastic with and still remain reasonable in size (for 4K files), but they can also be hell to work with in some editing programs depending on the quality of your rendering/editing machine.

The Clone Wars: Refocused [COMPLETE] + Subtitles for season one!

So I wasn’t even aware that I was being namedropped in this thread until recently (I am NumeralJoker/MechaSalesman).

I just want to make sure you’re aware that I’m actively working on upscaling/recutting the entire show now. I’m releasing the 3rd batch this week, covering 9 more cuts, or 31 more episodes from Seasons 1-6. All that remains now are 12 2 part episodes, 5 standalone episodes, and the 3 arcs from Season 7 (one of which I’ve already used in my 4K Episode III edit, of course). I plan to take some time off and work on those in early 2021, likely next month.

I’m not sure if that info is going to be relevant to your projects, but I want to make sure you’re aware that, hopefully, by early next year, all of seasons 1-6 will have a 4K HDR upscale (and 1080p SDR equivalent) available.

I’ve been extremely busy the past 2 weeks…

9 more Clone Wars Arcs are coming. They are already up on google drive for those who have access to those files, but it’ll take a bit longer for them to be uploaded elsewhere. I’ll make a more detailed post about it soon, but as of now I’ve made the decision to upscale/remaster all of Seasons 1-6 eventually. This batch will finish all the 3 episode+ arcs from seasons 1-6 already.

New Clone Wars Batch III Teaser Trailer:
https://youtu.be/qCq9suiKgBI

There are many more clips, but I’ll post links to them later.

I’m also doing a small update to the Revenge of the Sith cut to fix a tiny few niggling issues and release a version 3.0 (a single broken frame during the first deleted scene, a few subtitle tweaks, and other minor quality of life):

Here’s the first 3 minutes with the new updated intro audio, among other tidbits.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1B-yAzEm58

Most of the other changes will be minor cosmetic changes to transitions, and other very minor audio tweaks. The scene order and even the run time will remains frame for frame identical otherwise, so don’t expect anything too radical. 4K HDR and 1080P versions will be offered again like usual.

Having said that, a future revision is possible again depending on how Bad Batch handles the Revenge of the Sith time period. I’m very happy with this cut’s current structure, but I’m willing to be flexible ‘if’ Bad Batch offers any scenes that could ‘tastefully’ fit into the structure of the story. We’ll see. As much as I want a strictly chronological version of Star Wars, Bad Batch may be best left as its own thing. Depends on the story they choose to tell.

I’ve released a new series of Clone Wars TV Film edits, 7 more, now bringing the total to 61 episodes from Seasons 1-6 that I’ve upscaled/edited so far, or about half of the content from those seasons. Like the previous batch, I am releasing both the 4K HDR files natively, as well as downscaled versions of the new 4K HDR transfers in 1080P SDR.

The new content of the episodes themselves is 100% intact in these cuts, and the episodes are put in chronological order where they might have originally aired out of order. The only thing removed is the narrator on various episodes after the start of each arc, and even then I create new audio transitions where necessary to preserve any new non-recapped shots/visual content where possible. This helps it all flow nice and seamlessly.
All video links will stream in 4K HDR if you are using a broswer/display capable of supporting it (Chrome/Edge), or are playing on a properly calibrated 4K HDR compatible device (Smartphone, 4K Smart TV, Tablet, new HDR Gaming monitor, ect ect)

Again, Email sheevsenate0505@gmail.com for an automated reply with DL links/info, or DM me if that doesn’t work for whatever reason.

I’ll check them out. The old email link will have updated won’t it?

Do these new edits have any integrated deleted scenes?

There are no new deleted scenes in these edits this time, but the same 4K HDR process applies, and is even used for the downscaled 1080P SDR versions.

If a 3rd batch does happen, any remaining arc that’s 3 or more episodes from seasons 1-6 would be included in it, that includes at least 8 remaining so far. The only exception perhaps being the Domino Squad/Rookies arc since it’s spread out over a much longer period of time, so I’m not sure if cutting it into a film edit really works all that well.

For now, I hope people enjoy what we’ve got.

If someone does the Dark Disciple animated collab using the audiobook, I would be shocked!!!

I’ve considered it. I could go through the entire audiobook and trim it down to essential dialogue with limited narration fairly easily, making something of a cliff’s note version.

The challenge is finding enough high quality imagery to work. I’ve already included the Son of Dathomir AudioComic Adaptation from Star Wars Audio Comics in this collection as a bonus. I’d love to do the same with Son of Dathomir, but I just don’t think I could get enough art assets on my own to pull it off, which is a shame because it’s a (mostly) great story.

The Rise of Skywalker: Ascendant (Released)
Time

Well done,

An all around solid edit compiled by a passionate community of artists, including of course yourself, Hal. I’ll be keeping this in my collection and showing it to friends for a long time. The fact that Disney didn’t make some of these choices for the 3rd act themselves is beyond absurd to me, but it delivers everything I wanted to see in the film at least.

At this point, my only issue is what happens if Disney FINALLY releases some high quality deleted scenes. I was originally planning to do an Episode IX edit if they did, but at this point there isn’t much else I can do that your edit here hasn’t already done, and there’s no guarantee we’ll ever see unreleased footage for this film now, just like with Rogue One. It is what it is.

Congratulations on the completion of this project.

Inspired by the Clone Wars Arcs, I’ve also made one more cut covering the last 8 episodes of Rebels as one single film, including adding a new “Previously on” style prologue covering some of season 1-3’s most important events. Total Runtime is 3 hours long. Also, it may seem trivial, but I moved the Epilogue Scene to a post credits scene so there’s a more natural point in which a viewer can jump into stuff like Rogue One/The OT if they wish. It also has a “Five Years Later…” blue text bumper to make the timeline more clear.

And of course, like my other TCW cuts, these are upscaled/Color graded into 4K HDR if you have the right hardware as well.

I’ve only had time to watch one so far (The Return of Darth Maul) but it’s phenomenally well done. The quality is really high.

Glad you enjoyed it. That one took the most time and effort, but I am incredibly pleased with the results personally. It not only uses an official film cut as a basis (even taking a few of their transitions where usable), it is one of the best looking upscales of the lot since the HDR lighting throughout the entire arc just comes across looking incredible all around. You can’t even tell that the animation is already 7 years old.
