The NumeralJoker/MechaSalesman 4K HDR Edits Megathread, Clips Previews, and Release Info
Time

Hello again friends, with the success of my previous Mando/Boba Supercuts, the time to get out a timely released 4K HDR (and 1080p) Kenobi cut is upon is. If you’ve seen my previous Mando/Boba edits (or really any of my other work), you’ve got a pretty good idea of what to expect here. If not? I’ll break it down for you.

What Content is included in the Kenobi Feature SuperCut?

This is a single edit for all 6 episodes cut into a long form (nearly) 4 hour feature with minimal content cut out. The only content removed from the episodes are, recaps, titles, and about 45 seconds of footage from the 2 Leia chase scene to restructure them both to be faster paced and less distracting. The episodes are bridged with a mix of wipes or hardcuts matching the editing style of the rest of the show where appropriate. The original audio tracks are preserved as they are wherever possible, with the exception of the second Leia chase, the flashback Hayden duel, and Credits, which I have recut into 6 minute versions using both the official Credits theme and an actual recording of John Willians own conducted version of the Kenobi theme. The edits don’t remove any full scenes and there isn’t truly any deleted content for me to restore like my other edits, but they function similarly to the Clone Wars/Rebels/Mando/Boba edits where the goal was to turn the show’s arcs into feature films.

The Entire Project is simply named “Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi - The Feature Supercut”

Why would I watch these? Isn’t it just like watching the Kenobi Episodes on D+?

I never initially intended to make the Mando or Boba edits for that very reason, but in truth they worked surprisingly well, and I feel this is even more true in Kenobi’s case. The goal of these earlier edits was initially experimental, seeing if the shows arcs would work as long form films. After putting them together and showing them to a smaller test audience, we feel that the show works surprisingly well in this format. Keep in mind, I’ve already set a precedent for monstrous 4.5 hour film cuts with the very successful releases of the ROTS cut and Episode IV/Rogue One supercuts, which Kenobi is now also meant to be a sort of narrative bridge between. Lucasfilm themselves just did a 5 hour Kenobi screening (without any edits), so the desire for a true Supercut is now more widely understood. They’re fun to watch at home and very enjoyable for a group of friends. Furthermore, this eliminates the somewhat annoying problem of different chapters being inconsistent lengths and actually helps the pacing of the entire show.

As silly as it seems, watching the show in this format makes me feel less annoyed that some episodes were only 30 minutes. I believe Lucasfilm (and Marvel Studios, for that matter) create a lot of content with movie arcs in mind, and only tends to split them up due to production necessities and marketing needs of their platform. It was pretty obvious during the Clone Wars productions, and despite the stylistic differences between episodic directors, a similar philosophy can be seen here with many of the D+ shows too.

Did you make any major changes to the content?

Yes, there are a few changes laced throughout the cut.

  1. I extended the prologue with a new sequence discussing the clone wars series a bit along with Ahsoka’s impact on Anakin’s arc, it’s less than a minute long, but it uses footage from seasons 5-7 overlaid with the Crystal Crisis conversation about her departure to drive home Anakin and Kenobi’s feelings about the entire affair. I also incorporated some shots of Siege of Mandalore into the Episode III portions of the prologue to better reflect the editing style of my existing ROTS Supercut, since I intend this cut to be a successor (and sequel) to that one.

You can watch the extended promo here: https://www.reddit.com/user/NumeralJoker/comments/vfes8t/extended_prologue_for_the_star_wars_kenobi/

  1. Both of the Leia chase scenes are re-edited to be shorter, punchier and more effective, making them less awkward and distracting. Much like in the BOBF cut, they seemed a bit unfinished during production and this at least partially helps those issue. The second chase needed to be re-scored due to the nature of the edit, so I used an old favorite trick of mine.

You can watch a (near final) version of the chase sequences here: https://www.reddit.com/user/NumeralJoker/comments/vhk38c/ive_recut_the_2_unpopular_leia_chase_scenes_for/

  1. The entire Hayden/Ewan duel from part V has been recut into a single scene, given a new soundtrack, and moved up the timeline to be a single flashback a few minutes later in the film. I’ve also utilized DarthPorg’s superior 4K De-Aging for Hayden, as it is by far the best one currently available. This of course means later scenes without the flashback need to be bridged together appropriately.

You can watch the new cut here, integrated into its new place: https://www.instagram.com/p/CfLS-XqgdML/

(Youtube is currently blocking any footage from the show, so I’ll upload samples/a trailer for the cut at a later date).

  1. An extended/restructured 6 minutes credit sequence with an extended version of the Williams Kenobi Score.

All said and done, the total run-time for the edit is 3 hours, 52 minutes and 50 seconds.

That’s so wizard, Ani. How do I watch these?

If you’re familiar with my other releases, Email Sheevsenate0505@gmail.com (memes are appreciated. I can and do read the messages when they’re not coming in by the hundred) for an automated response to find the links. I can’t post them here directly, of course, but if you notice the number of followers/karma on my profile (no, they’re not Russian twitter droids), you should have a pretty good idea that this isn’t a scam.

So, another set of updates.

Firstly, the Book of Boba Fett Supercut was released if you didn’t already catch that.

The Final Trailer for the preview was here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTCZGiIAgJc

Secondly, I’m updating my 2003 Clone Wars Episode Cuts to a new v2 that tweaks the content just a bit more and resolves a few more smaller timeline inconsistencies that were introduced back even in the EU days. Things like Padawan Anakin getting in the ETA-2 Starfighter too early, the timeline (and context) of Ventress’ recruitment, more consistent voices for characters like Grievous, Kit Fisto, ect. ect. have all been tweaked just a bit.

This doesn’t make the series “canon” but it makes it more “canon friendly” as I’d like to call it. If you break up these episodes and watch them in the correct viewing order alongside the main 2008 series, it all fits together reasonably well now, obvious power scaling issues aside.

Series Intro 4K HDR Preview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVhgRe5wl_w
Updated Grievous Voice Preview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kq1aPPkIaO8

Again, I’ll be releasing more preview clips in the coming days. The project files are out in both 1080p and 4K HDR this time, and English subtitles have now finally been included with all 4 episodes as well.

Introducing…

THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT - THE HARDCOVER EDITION

New Project Title:
https://imgur.com/Wi7zw07

I’ve started releasing clips from Hardcover Edition Supercut, which has now begun rendering after slowly prepping it behind the scenes for the past few weeks. Here are just a few small samples. A Trailer will be releasing tomorrow too.

Boba Dances with the Tuskens (Also featuring flashback fade out transition between Episodes 2-3):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3bWQERsAAA

Fixed Vespa Chase Scene (Incomplete due to Youtube blocking the full scene):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1xBErkTaB0

Complete Vespa Chase Recut (Requires Instagram login to watch, I think):
https://www.instagram.com/p/CZv1z2oAaOH/

As per usual, I’ll be releasing both 1080p and 4K HDR versions. The credits will be recut and rescored like with the Mando cuts as well. Overall, the final run time is 4 hours, 59 minutes, and 32 seconds, which makes this the longest supercut I’ve ever done. Splitting it into 2 parts would not be unreasonable, and a chronological cut is absolutely a project that can be on the table in the future, but it would need to be fully recut with Mando S1&2 and be treated as a much larger set of films, so this massive Supercut takes first priority. Please don’t give me a bunch of requests to do a chronological cut right now, as I want to wait until we at ‘least’ see how Mando Season 3 wraps its part of the story to ensure there aren’t any other relevant and interesting flashbacks.

I just want to reiterate that I’ve sent DM links to those requesting them.

Also, my edit of Book of Boba Fett is well on the way and will be referred to as “The Hardcover Edition”.

I’m working on the teaser and promo materials right now for it.

Release date isn’t set though, it will take at least a few days to render and complete.

Ah, I see. I’ve never really branched out into any print media, so I was unaware that books took place between the events. Thanks for such an in-depth response!

Don’t feel bad. I had to do some pretty indepth research to even find this info. Luckily, it’d been a topic some of us on Force.net had already been debating for some time, so I was ready to find a solution to these problems when the chance came.

But to make it clear, there are multiple sources outside of the films/cartoons themselves that helped me decide the order of events for the entire cut…

  1. Labyrinth of Evil, the EU Novel.

  2. The Revenge of the Sith Script.

  3. The Revenge of the Sith Novelization.

  4. Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader (occurs after the film, but still ties into events and characters seen in the deleted scenes, giving them some extra context)

  5. Numerous Documentaries and Interviews

  6. A handful of NuCanon Sourcebooks to validate old EU info (Star Wars Lightsabers and Star Wars Women of the Galaxy both recanonize much of the Battle of Coruscant’s onscreen events)

  7. The Revenge of the Sith PS2 Game’s Timeline of Events

  8. A rather in-depth study of the directing and editing styles of both Dave Filoni and George himself. Comparing their similarities, and differences, and blending their two styles together where possible. Some transitions are based on the types Dave would use, while others are classic George wipes. 3D to 2D scene switches tend to use deliberately harder edged wipe effects, and the opposite for switching between Live Action and 3D (softer, more feathered transitions are used). This helps the viewer more naturally adjust to the different visual styles. While some transitions have technical limitations (not enough frames between shots, software glitches with certain transitions in the specific version of Adobe needed to make this cut work), most should follow the above rules. As another example, emotional scenes in 3D Clone Wars would sometimes use slow cross fades (something the films almost never did), and so I was willing to use them a few more times here, as that was part of Dave’s own unique editing style that was different from George’s.

  9. George often broke down the prequels into multiple subplots happening simultaneously and would switch between them every few minutes to keep the pacing/flow of the story interesting, even if it wasn’t perfectly taking “real time” into account. He especially liked to break down the finales of these films into A-B-C plots which the viewer switches between rapidly to keep from getting too bored. I tried to keep this style intact when adding the Clone Wars footage, while still keeping events relatively close to real time. It was always a balancing act between these 2 ideas, but I’m pretty happy with the overall choices. I also broke down the events of the film into a roughly 6 day timeline, and kept track of each day’s rough chronology (even if time didn’t flow exactly the same on one world vs another) and edited according to that too.

Hi, I just wanted to post in here and say this is incredible work! Your Clone Wars (Batch 1 and 2 particularly)/ROTS edits will particularly come in handy when my husband and I do a chronological watch-through this spring/summer, but I’m going to include the extended cuts and the Rogue One/ANH edits as well to really make it an in-depth experience. 😃

Just out of curiosity - what was the decision to not include your EP3 of the micro series with the ROTS edit? It seems like it could work as a prologue of sorts since it leads into the events.

The chronology and order of events was the main reasons. If you looked up the old EU material around this time period, it was eventually determined that the Battle of Nelvaan happened a few days before the Battle of Coruscant, so was therefor better cut as a separate “Episode” event for the 2D Clone Wars cuts, despite appearing in the original show as happening concurrently.

This meant I had room to fit the beginnings of the Battle of Coruscant and intermix that with the 3D Clone Wars Battle of Yerbana, since Kenobi references the events seen on Coruscant during the end of the Yerbana campaign. All of this was decided after years and years worth of debates on how the old EU Clone Wars timeline actually worked and how it could be at least partially integrated into the current canon. We’ve been arguing about this for a decade elsewhere and this was my final answer. The novel Labryinth of Evil was already causing timeline confusion back then, so sorting through all this to find the best solution was nothing new. Finally, since so many people tend to still reject the 2D series, I wanted to include the events from it that’d been most directly endorsed by other canon source books (kidnapping of Palpatine, Shaak Ti’s chase, Grievous killing Roron Corobb, ect. ect.) within the Episode III cut. The fact that they chose not to reanimate the Battle of Coruscant for the show’s finale, but instead verbally reference its events without many changes gave me room to recut the 2D material in a way that was more canon friendly without altering it too much. It not being “canon” meant I was more free to make changes to it as I pleased, but I still wanted to salvage as much of it as reasonably possible. All things considered, I’m very happy with the end result. It’s all my final personal solution to a 15+ year old set of canon issues.

Have you ever thought about doing just an extended edit of Revenge of the Sith and its deleted scenes without adding in the Clone Wars material? I think that would be a popular edit too, mainly for people who would want a consistent live-action look throughout the edit.

I prefer to try and avoid the chaos and confusion that gets caused by hosting multiple versions (aside from resolution) of the same film, especially since so many other editors have already tackled the material of just restoring deleted scenes back into Episode III alone. Having said that, it seems no one else has done pure “Extended” cuts like I have for Episodes I and II without any removals of other material, so maybe at some point. We’ll see.

My vote would also go towards leaving it as is. When I previewed the scene, I didn’t even remember whether it was supposed to be kept or removed, and I think the line works when taken in context of the whole film. Not to mention it was an iconic line from the teaser.

But if Hal wants to re-render the whole thing and restart distro all over again, that’s his choice. It is what it is, I suppose.

I’ve been DMing Hal regarding mirror links in my own section of the secret place as well. Hopefully those should be up within a few hours of his initial upload completing. With luck, this’ll help offset demand a bit.

However, I won’t give out the method for obtaining links since this is his release, not mine. I’ll be sharing them directly with him, and he can choose how to share them with the rest of you.

With a little bit of luck, you’ll all be able to see this in time for Christmas.

I’ve found delays have been happening on Google Drive for popular files. Then there’s also this:
new policy Google is rolling out: https://www.techradar.com/news/google-drive-could-soon-start-locking-your-personal-files

Google Drive already follows most of those practices and typically only responds to things that are flagged or receive a direct DMCA takedown from the rightful IP holder. Even if it does use a more crude content ID like system to scan a video, an edited film would likely not trigger that.

I would assume not much will change unless people are deliberately flagging these files (and even then, Hal isn’t the owner of the drive he’s using, so there are other ways to deal with the problem).

This is also why torrents exist for projects like these. They can take longer to set up and be more difficult for a community to maintain, but they exist that way for a reason.

Once this edit is in the hand of the right people, the internet never forgets. Don’t worry.

Congratulations on the completion of your ST edits. It’s quite the accomplishment for the entire community, all things considered, far more ambitious than most cuts would ever dare to be (and featuring a far bigger team).

Out of curiosity, what’s the final rendering time for the 1080p version? Some of my own cuts have had insanely long renders (28 hours for the 4.5 hour ROTS cut, for example)?

Another update to the ROTS Supercut, bringing it up to a v4.0 version. Far as I can tell, this is the last time I want to revise it unless there is a major change in the quality of video sources available in the future (8K, ect. ect.)

New Feature Length Trailer:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4zftN2j3oE

New Video showcasing some v4.0 updates.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4syQwuSMSqI

For the list of updates…

-The 20th Century Fox theme and intro has been restored, like in my Episode I, II, and R1/ANH Cuts.

-New AI Upscales have been used for the 5 restored deleted scenes, using the same sources as provided for the Episode I and II updated deleted scenes in those Extended Cuts.

-Another deleted scene has been partially restored by reincorporating Qui-Gon Jinn’s voice into the film near the end during Yoda’s meditation. This better helps to explain why he ends up on Degobah in a separate deleted scene and restores Liam Neeson into the film, as I felt he always should have been.

-Mat Lucas’ 2D Clone Wars voice clips have been updated to use Matt Lanter voice clips for better consistency with Anakin across the cut. Now you only hear Lanter and Hayden.

-All transitions, both audio and video, have been given one final revision, with numerous tweaks to make them as seamless as I can with current tech. As things are now, they all sound the way I intend them too and I’m happy with these results.

-All Clone Wars Season 7 footage has new updated color timings, showing better black levels and contrast while still being a bit brighter and more vibrant than the D+ version. This will look very similar to my Bad Batch S1 Trilogy Cuts releases.

-The subtitles have been tweaked a bit to tighten/refine timing for the English track, while a new updated Spanish subtitle track has also been included.

Thanks again for your continued support. You can see this updated v4.0 Supercut at the same place you’ve seen the previous versions, once again available in both 4K HDR and 1080p SDR.

Feel free to check out the main reddit release post for a large list of 4K Screencaps as well:

Star Wars Episodes I & II Extended Edition (v2.0) Teaser Trailer:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGFLVHhxsOY

Using newly upscaled deleted scenes for the PT (with help from forum user bryantmh), I have revised my existing 4K HDR (and 1080p) Extended Episode I and II edits to newer versions with several small tweaks and refinements.

The scene order of the cuts is identical to their previous releases, and the run time is very close (1 frame shorter in Episode I, 18 frames shorter in Episode II), but several quality of life improvements were made.

  1. New color timing in Episode I that handles the overly bright official HDR transfer and tweaks it to be more in line with what’s seen in the Episode III Supercut. All levels have been tweaked, but Tatooine has the most changes, being revised on a shot by shot basis for the best balance overall. Highlights will still pop and be vibrant, but overly bright desert scenes are much better balanced now. Episode I receives a much more subtle treatment, with most of the changes being in deleted scene lighting levels.

  2. Most of the DVD deleted scenes were replaced with the upgraded AI Upscales. The cropping is slightly different from these and I still have minor niggling issues with the artificial detail that’s produced in some shots, but I can’t deny the clear benefits in all of the Episode II scenes and some of the Episode I scenes. (I don’t think they are actually necessary in the Episode III edit, for example). AI upscales were already used in my previous v1.0 cuts (for all but the Waterfall Scene and some shots of the second Podrace Lap where only an inferior source was available for use), but I think most people will find the new ones to be a nice improvement.

  3. Like the v2.0 and 3.0 revisions for the Episodes III and IV cuts, each transition and audio bridge was manually reviewed and tweaked by a few frames where necessary. The changes will be subtle and unnoticeable to some, but they are there, and they make the final product feel just a tad more authentic.

The google drive releases for Eps I and II are already out now, and the torrents/other releases will show up in later days. Please replace and use the new versions wherever possible, as there is virtually no reason to keep the old ones over these.

I’ll be uploading new video versions of all the deleted scenes in both films over the weekend, replacing the older videos I had up so people can see the new updates for themselves.

Thank you for doing these updates. The new color corrections on Episode 1 are so good, the previous version was too bright for my liking. You really hit the right balance.

I have one comment about your Episode III cut, i agree the deleted scenes are fine currently but i would summit one exception if you ever do a update one day. The extended Palpatine/Anakin conversation about anakin becoming his representative is very grainy/blocky. I wonder if another source (the upscale source maybe) could help.

There is far less that can be done with this scene, as the original resolution of the source is already Full HD, but the effects themselves are vastly incomplete, and the type of DNR that could be used to reduce the grain is more likely to damage the detail in the image. Color correction also can’t do much since the original film negatives were never fully processed. This is also the same reason the Bail Antilles shots from Ep I will never look quite as good as the rest.

For now, this is pretty much the best we can get. If/when better video sources become available, that’s when I’ll finally do the next major revision for that cut, but as of now I’m still happy with it as it is. I have the files saved in the timeline until further notice just in case, though.

Just giving a slight bump to confirm that Bad Batch film edits are indeed in the works (4K HDR and 1080p SDR), since the episodes lend to the format fairly well and have a few arcs I can use. I’m leaning heavily towards a film trilogy format as of now.

https://imgur.com/RxVFNcb

I’ll have clips, previews, and a teaser worked on in the coming weeks just in time for the finale.

To summarize it quickly, I’m planning a film trilogy format for the season.

Aftermath (Episodes 1-3)
Hunted and Cornered (Episodes 4-9)
War-Mantle (Title Subject to Change) (Episodes 10-16)

So far, the first 2 films flow extremely well and remain approximately 2 hours of run time. The final film will likely be a good chunk longer (due to credible rumors of the last episode being either double or triple length).

Despite parts of the season having “filler” episodes, I feel confident that the story arcs still naturally flow into each other and this will create the most reasonably satisfying viewing experience.
These will be relatively simple cuts since the show already is primed for cinematic viewing and there’s barely even an intro outside of the first episode. Early test viewings of the first 2 “films” so far have gotten good receptions.

To repeat an answer to a commonly asked question, I do not plan to incorporate the Order 66 material of Aftermath into the Episode III Revenge of the Sith Supercut edit at this time, since I feel the first 20 minutes of Aftermath work best narratively as their own arc purely from the Squad’s POV and do not add much to the film itself, unlike Siege of Mandalore episodes, the deleted scenes, or the battle of Coruscant footage.

I do, however, strongly feel that a viewing order of the S7 Bad Batch Arc (which is chronologically the latest arc in the show), the Episode III Supercut, and The Aftermath film cut create a very satisfying experience when all watched back to back. I know many of you want the ROTS cut to be further extended, but I please ask you to trust me on this. This was the same reason why I left the Jedi Fallen Order material out of the cut and within the game. I myself watched the S7 arc, ROTS cut, and Aftermath (Episode 1) the night Bad Batch premiered all in one sitting and immensely enjoyed it this way. It was 7 hours of pure Star Wars bliss.
I look forward to sharing this project with you all soon.
