It's from the same take. But for the SE they used a later section for instead of splitting up the shots

and if you look at the troopers feet placement by the red light on the floor they are in a different spot...one more forward and one more towards the back of the light.

@ DoubleoFive...I really like the splitscreen comparison shots you did for ANH:R are you going to do the same for EBS:R?

I noticed something while doing a splitscreen video of the original laserdisc version and Adywan's version, it's in the hanger after Luke say's goodbye to Leia.

I know it's way off topic but I'm trying to stretch it to fit here ;-O.

Did anyone else notice this?

I'll post a link to view:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgodhJDckeQ

I noticed a while back (way back) someone had mentioned a scene with Darth Vader arriving on the Death Star that was used from unused footage from ROTJ and reinserted into the SE. It had Moff Jejerrod I believe?

I was wondering if Ady had decided on if he was going to leave this in or is this something that is hitting the cutting room floor along with the rest of the "Darth Vader arriving scene from Bespin" scene?

I can tolerate the new Wampa footage and I absolutely loved the additional tracking shot of Slave 1 stalking the Millenium Falcon, but the addition of the "Vader's Journey Back to the Executor (because god knows, we were totally and completely clueless about how he actually got back there)" scene is the most horrendous and hack-job tweaks in the whole Special Edition. It almost completely ruined ESB:SE for me.

Why on Earth you would even ask to keep that footage in? The insertions completely take you out of the action and the flow of the Empire climax.

Adywan has long ago said the climax will be restored to its former glory.

I didnt ask to keep the footage in I was just wondering what Ady had planned for that bit of a mess Lucas called a new scene.

I agree it should be taken out but it's Ady's call so I just wondered if he had made a final decision is all.

Kinda off topic: I had noticed that during the battle of Yavin there was a scene taken from ROTJ with an X-wing flying over the DS surface so it would seem that it wouldn't be too far of a stretch for Ady to leave or tweak that SE "Vader arriving"  DS2 scene if he wanted and could find a reason to keep it.

Anyone know anything final about this?

@ Mithrandir...That's where Lucas lost his marbles and screwed up the PT, he lost the story in all the "muck" of special effects and extra's that had no benefit towards making the movies better.

Remember it's about the story and not about all the "muck" just thrown in there just cause you can.

From what I've seen from Adys work so far on ESB:R (which isnt a whole lot, lol) I believe IMO he has things on the right track and knowing Ady he will have more than a few surprises for us that he'll keep secret until it's release.

Keep watching and posting...

@ DoubleoFive....you took the words out of my mouth.

I've been biting my lip because I know how seriously some people take the whole Star Wars EU.......but,.........If you go back to when I was a kid of 8 years old, there's the excitement of this new movie coming in the summer that the newspapers have been printing pictures of........pictures of robots and worn spacecraft that look so........used and real. Well you all know that that movie came out and here we all are now still talking about it.....but back then the cool spaceship was the Millennium Falcon, but only in the past ten years its got this back history created like what factory and planet it was manufactured on, a model name etc. Back then it was the Falcon.

I'm not saying loving Star Wars isn't cool, but in the 70's you were cool if you were in to SW, thats why so many celebrities appeared on TV and proclaimed their love for it (Sam Jackson, etc), Star Wars was hip cause it was excepted as what it was, you filled in the blanks with your imagination. On the other hand back then if you said you were into Star Trek, or Space 1999 (not so much Doctor Who), you were considered a nerd, (star trek had so much techno-babble, too much technical detail.........nerdy)

I just feel disheartened that people are passionate about the parts of Star Wars that I feel were created just to earn more money from the fans.........yes we all felt sad when we walked out of the cinemas back in 83 with 'yub, nub' still echoing in our ears. I went back to see the film over 20 time that summer, bought every thing I could by scrounging money off my parents for memorabilia, everyone didn't want Star Wars to end........and on that hunger, the EU went into overdrive........Star Wars to me is the three movies from my childhood, from 1977 to 1983......that even the hard-nuts in my school were in to...........things have changed nowadays.

All arguing aside and debates galore...I have to say this is the most thought out and heartfelt comment about how some of us feel about the Star Wars that we grew up with and the Star Wars that is today.

I do enjoy the EU, but not at the expense of the love and imagination that developed from being around when Star Wars first hit the screen.  There's just something about "filling in the blanks" that has a bit of magic to it, even if it is only a movie.

@Jaitea...you have hit the nail on the head.

Wow, I didnt read the objection to the subject as dramatic at all, maybe you are taking things a bit to personal. I took the comment as a jest.

If anything your the one who came on with the arrogance and dramatic comments that we have come to know you by. Sorry if that's to harsh but I've been reading this thread over and over just to stay on top of things and most of your comments get personal if anyone say's anything about the EU that's in disagreement with you.

Maybe other's dont want to ruffle your feathers because of your working relationship with the great Ady but like you I speak my mind. Maybe you should be more tolerent of other's when they voice their opinion on the EU and not reply with such contempt and arrogence. You may know alot on the EU (and that's commendable) but you dont have to berate someone for disagreeing with you.

I'm sorry if this offends you but like you (again) I see no reason to take something out of context and berate someone else's opinion.

It's funny how you posted: "...Object all you want, but prepare for an very long reply which takes away from concentrating on Revisited... It's probably better to PM me of your objection(s) concerning me/EU... Then I can just reply in kind. I look forward to them. ^^".....you want to people to reply to you in the PM but you didnt reply in PM to the person(s) who brought up the subject. I look at it like this...if you reply on the thread for everyone to see then they should have the right to reply to you in kind.

Just my humble opinion and I'm sure other's feel the same even if they dont voice it publicly.

Oh by the way make sure you PM me if you want a reply...;-)

Actually dont PM me cause I'm done with the subject.  Now to make this Revisted related....I love Ady's work so far on the ESB:R and can't wait to see more and the new pic is awsome.

It goes from the most enjoyable scene to the most pointless scene of the movie just like that.

Most pointless scene? Talk about over exaggeration. This whole scene never sat well with me since 1980. It seemed pretty pointless and unrealistic. The Empire have just turned up and started a blockade around the planet. They are preparing to kick the rebels asses. So what do they do? They see the first transport and 2 x-wings heading towards them, with no other stardestroyers in sight, and just sits there and waits until it flies straight at it. Oh wait, what if it suddenly turned away from the stardestroyer? oh well, that one slipped by. Oh come on. If they are their to wipe the rebels out, which they planned to do with aerial bombardments, they certainly wouldn't have just sat there. They would have tried to destroy the transport and it's escorts. Vader knew Luke wouldn't be on one of those transports so they would have been just cannon fodder.

As it stood originally it just looked like an easy escape. There was no sense of danger apart from one stationary stardestroyer that was doing sod all. It wasn't a surprising victory at all. I never felt that the transport was in any danger of being captured or destroyed. I always wondered why they just sat there and so did a lot of other people.

They never change course, they never "just sit there". The reason they aren't firing is because the ships are out of range obviously. They don't do anything when the transport flies past because they are busy being disabled by the ion cannon. It's an easy escape yes, but only because the empire completely underestimated the power of the ion cannon, which it what makes it so enjoyable. Why should it be a hard gritty trudge to escape when you have such a powerful weapon to back you up? That would just be frustrating to watch.

As it stands it has an emotional place in the battle. With your changes it means nothing and is completely pointless.

Good thing no one is forcing (FORCE..get it?) you to watch it then. As one who has not been honored to have seen a rough edit of EP.V,  I can only give my personal opinion on what I have been able to scrape together: I have enjoyed everything so far and the scene your overly complaining about was just fine with me and made total sense.

This is Adywan's edit and version of his personal taste on what he wants the movie to be, if you dont like his version then go out and make one for yourself and create a forum for it so we can complain about your version.

Ady is kind enough to let us be a part of HIS vision on ESBR and for one am gratefull for him listening to us when we might have an opinion on something that he may have overlooked or not though of, but to critize Ady's hard work (that he is doing, not you) to the point of it being insulting is well...insulting and for those of us who have enjoyed his work on ANH:R I think we should wait until the final edit before we tear him down.

Think about it...His mom (who I assume he loves dearly) passing away, the construction work on his property, and the resulting damage to his workstation (which had to be rebulit) not to mention his migraine headaches and temp. blindness is enough for anyone else to just say forget it and I'm not doing this. But instead he plows through those problems and continues to create something great for us fan's of Star Wars to enjoy for years to come.

I may not know Ady on a personal level but I will stick up for someone who has gone through so much for those of us who love his work and even for those few who want to complain and insult his work.

Ady...Keep doing what your doing...Cheers mate.

What we all have to never forget is that if it wasn't for Lucas with all his flaws and errors included, none of this would matter.

That makes me think of a hypothetical situation: if we had never had the SEs or the PT or anything else that has tarnished our memories, and only had awesome versions of the OOT...would Star Wars fanediting even exist? If someone made their own SE, would they be viewed as Lucas is now, tampering with things that could've been left alone? (even if it was just fixing continuity errors or blemishes, and nothing else)

I appreciate that you also brought out the fact that Lucas is letting people mess with his movies. They even encouraged people to put stuff on YouTube before! That is pretty great and shouldn't be forgotten among all the nonsense. ;)

That is something to think about...some of the changes are trying to fix what the SE's have tarnished or have brought to the forefront...good observation and insight.

Thanks for the positive feedback. i was hoping I didnt get to badly ripped... :-), but I did get a box of band-aids for just such an occasion.

To Ming: What we all have to never forget is that if it wasn't for Lucas with all his flaws and errors included, none of this would matter. Lately your comments have been towards bashing Lucas (in some instances rightly so) and how much of a failure his movie making skills were.

Remember back in the day when you couldn't wait to pop in the VHS and watch Star Wars including all its problems? Yes there are things that need to be changed and redone but come on, it's Star Wars! We fell in love with this great movie with every flaw under the sun and we couldn't get enough of it. I still can't.

Adywan deserves much respect and love for what he has done and will do in the future to this series of great movies. It's just that I've noticed that this thread is starting to turn into a Lucas bashing thread at times.

Part of the charm and draw of Star Wars was some of the obvious flubs and errors that are being fixed now. If anything I think that Adywan is enhancing the movies not changing them and I love that about the edits. Lucas didnt have the know how or the means to make the changes that are being done today. I think he was away to long from the series when he started to make the changes that have come to plague the OT now. Somewhere along the road Lucas did lose his way in the prequels but my comments and opinions are for the OT.

I for one love what Lucas has done, is he the greatest writer? No. Is he the most actor friendly director? No, but he did create something that we have all come to love and enjoy so let's take a step back and remember why we are here.

  Because we love Star Wars...

I am in no way trying to disrespect or bash you so please dont take it that way.

Just so you know (wink wink) saying your not gloating about seeing the rough cut comes off as gloating. Are we jealous...you bet cha' but please dont insult us peasants who are doing without that privilege by saying it's no big deal cause it is. ;-P

One more note: To say that Lucas doesn't care is unfair, he has created and continues to allow others to create all sorts of Star Wars projects that he could turn around and ban people from doing anytime he wanted. Maybe it's not that he doesnt care, maybe it's that he has lived with this series for a better part of 34 years, that's a long time to try and keep a creative mind to.

If anything I find his contributions to the series and all it's spin-offs a strong commitment to the Star Wars universe and should be acknowleged not insulted. I love that Lucas ALLOWS us to use HIS property to do what we want and have our own versions of HIS vision. If I was Lucas and read all of the bashing and insulting comments here and other places that use my property I might be inclined to say."you know what? since I did such a crappy job (based on certain comments) maybe I should just deny these people to use my property without some bucks in my wallet." Lucas doesn't make a dime on the free creative properties of Star Wars that he allows us to use for our own purposes. We should be thanking him not dogging him.

just my opinion.

Excellent work on the clip Ady!  The colour is fantastic (especially on the landing platform, where you turned the blue to brown once again), and the little extra FX are great (added traffic, added blast on trooper Chewie hits).

Just wondering though... the stormtrooper that gets hit just before the scene where 3PO bumps his head on the Falcon, it looks like there's a black mark on his chest before he gets hit.  Had you noticed it?  If so, was it not possible to eliminate?  Or am I not seeing things correctly?

there's one on the trooper who follows him also.

Nice idea gurgle1624, although as far as the existing movie footage, it always seemed quite natural to me that a naturally-suspicious Han would say something like that anyway when he's notified that some unknown 'metal' thing has suddenly been located on an otherwise technologicaly-barren planet, which then transmits something that 'language expert' C3P0 suggests could be an 'Imperial code'....

Thanks, and yeah it could go either way. I dont figure Ady would use the idea as its considered EU but it was still fun hashing it out.

I think I've just read that missing scene way to many times and it's imbeded in my brain now.

The more I worked just on this one clip the more I understood how serious and talented you have to be to do these types of films, my hat is off to you all.

I hope you enjoy the clip...and Ady? My God you have patience! I have more appreciation for the ANH:R than I did before (if that's possible).

I wonder how exactly station 38 looked like, if a small bunker built with rocks and ice, a cave or just a tent with camo patterns... :) I say that because I somehow have a problem with a droid engaged in a spy/search mission shooting at potential objectives and essentially calling undesired attention to itself unless it´s in immediate danger... I think there is another scene in the novel where the probot encounters a wampa and kills it...

According to the novel the main rebel base already has it on its radar (more advanced systems in the main base Im sure), and then as Han and Leia enter the room something comes through (the Probots transmission that we all hear in the movie) then C3-P0 does his thing, Han has an exchange...at this point we should hear Echo station 38 (come in on the Comlink console) say they have it on its scope and will have visual contact (or something to that effect) but before they can relay what it is they are blasted and the transmission ends...cut back to Han saying "It isnt friendly whatever it is".

The Probot would have blasted it as station 38 posed a threat to it's mission on transmitting the shield generator information that it had not been able to record up to that point. It didnt want to be stopped before it could record and send its message in other words.

According to Reekien (SP) Echo station is in zone 12 the same zone that station 38 is in.

I have a very rough clip that i will be posting tonite on what that scene may look and sound like. I am having a hard time making the billowing smoke pour from the top of the station (a turrent..I cheated) so I may not add it in at all but it will give an idea.

Just got vegas pro 9 and after effects so its a very steep learning curve for me at the novice stage.

It's actually not a bad idea... then again wouldn't station 38 check in prior to being blasted by a probe droid? Also the comm telemetry is from the probe droid's transmission of information in it's coded robot speak. It's not a recording of audible sound from the probe and it's immediate surroundings.

The novel says that the trooper transmisson comes from the comlink console, so we would assume it is two transmissions happening at the same time. Also Reekien states that it's outside the base in zone 12. Here's a novel exerpt.

Just then the voice of a rebel trooper cut in through the consoles comlink speaker:

Rebel trooper: "This is echo station 38, unidentified object is in our scope. We should have visual contact in about..."

Fear suddenly filled the voice.

"oh what the?!...Oh no!!"

There was a burst of static...and then nothing.

Han frowned.

"Whatever it is it isnt friendly...

           Exterior shot:

The dark probe robot moves past the smoldering ruins of
station three-eight and down a ridge toward the Rebel base.

 sigh...."Vaderious"... :-)

Yeah I know it's not like there is a recording device hanging outside Echo station 38 but who's to say they aren't "on the other line" so to speak. I'm sure the rebels can afford multiple transmissons at once.

Its just a rough cut idea, since I dont yet have the skills to add the scene in myself, but it gives more urgency to check it out plus the General sends Rogues 10 and 11 to Echo Station 38 after that exchange. Why send the Rogues when Han and Chewie are checking it out.

Zone 12 is where Echo Station 38 is located, also wouldn't you want a sentry posted near your shield generator if not to defend it but at the very least to report any strange activity?

A smoking station could be put into the shot of the probot leaving very easily for someone with some skill's (i'm sure someone will beat me to it..then again maybe not) but I will try and edit this myself with better quality. Just got my Vegas Pro so there's alot to learn.

By the way the Wilhelm scream was a joke, I wouldn't expect that to actually be in there...then again.

I just noticed something while watching the original ESB, and I didn't think of it until now, but the original Boba Fett voice sounds like a well to do guy trying to sound intimidating.  It's kinda weird, but it's like Jason Wingreen is trying to hard, while Temura Morrison just talks naturally.  If someone would just show me the two clips with different voices, I hate to say it but I'd prefer the voice of Temura from the SE.  (?)

Oh well, maybe that's just me.

Actually I think of it as the other way around...the emphasis of the "He's no good to me dead" is changed with the SE. The OT emphasies the "Dead" while in the SE it's on the "me". I prefer to think of Boba (OT)wanting the larger reward of Solo alive than the SE Boba worring about "who" Solo's worth is to.
