Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

just watched your version on a bigscreen tv yesterday,

it matched our's pretty closely also... for some reason

watching it on a tv with different settings was quite

different from viewing it on a monitor....

i'm used to watching almost all my videos on monitors,

so it's just a matter of setting your color preferences

to match what you think is right.

later

I wonder, do you think this has something to do with the differences in output range between TVs and computers?

Project release formats - what should we be using these days?
Time

I always vote for the highest possible quality regardless of the format.

Menus, angles, and things like that are nice, but I would prefer quality if a trade off absolutely needed to be made.

Lower quality releases can be made specifically for those who want to burn a disc, but for me, that is not really relevant any more since 99% of my media is played using a computer.

De-interlacing question
Time

As a general question, wouldn't it be better to detelecine before doing the final encode? That way the quality is a constant depending on how munch time you want to dedicate to processing the video before hand.

I know there are detelecine filters out there that produce amazing results if you take the time to tweak things, but they can be incredibly slow. If you pay that cost up front so much the better for the end user, right?

PS- Sorry about the horrible formatting nonsense, there doesn't seem to be any way for me to get rid of it...

I'm sure I read somewhere that formatting small flash memory modules as NTFS gradually reduced the capacity or did some other damage....that's why I took it for granted people would be using FAT32 :-)

Urban legend I think... All my hard-drives, portable hard-drives and USB sticks are NTFS and given some are 5 years old, they're all good :-p

Maybe they meant that as the filesystem size gets smaller, using NTFS leaves less available space for user data since it's overhead is bigger (thus taking up a larger percentage of total space)?

It might also cause the media to wear out faster if NTFS is more write heavy than another FS since the number of writes to flash memory is more limited than magnetic media.

Ichabod and Mr. Toad - the Soundtrack! (Released)
Time

Thanks for the post, I haven't listened to this yet, but the first thing I noticed was that the track numbering is pretty strange.

10-15 and 34 seem to be missing

The outtake tracks are duplicate track numbers (intentional?)

These could just be metadata issues, but since the files don't contain track numbers I can't be sure.

Any chance you could provide an info file or some more details?

Regarding JDownloader:

As others have mentioned, make sure it is up to date. The file sharing sites are always changing and sometimes it takes a little while to get the plugin updated.

Also, if you are running with multiple displays, I have noticed that the captcha shows up on the primary display even if JDownloader is on another screen. In some cases it has even popped up behind other windows for me (on Windows 7).

To increase the timeout for the captcha windows go to Settings -> Basics -> User Interface -> Feel -> Timeout for input windows. But be aware that using too high a timeout value here may not work as expected since the server may time you out before the download starts.

If things aren't working, just leave the file in the queue and try to re-enable it later. Sometimes the file sharing site is just slow.

EDIT: My mistake. 12 megapixels is not the same thing as 12,000 pixels per line. That would be 48 megapixels, beyond what any off-the-shelf camera can do ATM.

Not sure what you mean by off-the-shelf, but there are a few medium format digital cameras in this range available today or even as of several years ago.

They will set you back a few tens of thousands of dollars, but probably still much less than the pro equipment (which I don't know anything about).

They did all throughout the 90's/00's. Now you can't ever find out what a theater has, let alone what the movie features. Wish there was an easy way to do so nowadays.

No kidding, I used to frequent a theater in the 90s with all three (DD, DTS, SDDS) and the sound was mind blowing. Every movie has the appropriate sound teaser at the front (sometimes 2) and the poster outside the door.

Seeing Heat in SDDS was the film that opened my ears to how amazing cinema could sound. I also remember seeing Men in Black and The Fifth Element there, good times!

Future of Home Video
Time

none said:

Resolution/format don't interest me, the future of home video for me is being able to access anything ever made. I want to be able to query the world library and watch specifics.

This is certainly a desirable goal, but for some things I want to be able to choose the specific version I want to see. Given the history of what is provided to us by the content owners, there will seemingly always be room for storage outside their domain.

This is the exact need that probably brought most of us to sites like this one in the first place. To me, it speaks very loudly to the ownership vs. licensing issue.

A great example of epic fail along those lines is Netflix. One minute something is in the queue and the next, not so much. Call me old fashioned, but I don't want the things I pay money for to be temporally dependent on if the content creators and providers are getting along that particular day.

There may not always be physical discs, but I for one am glad that there will always be open formats and people working to make sure I can do what I want with the content I purchase. For me, the physicality is less important than the portability of media.
