I must agree. It was completely forgettable, I read it once, a few years ago and don't remember anything about it at all.

You sort of owe it to yourself to pick it up every once in a while.  It is so bad, it's almost good.

The part where the Hapans arrive and throw a parade and shower Leia with gifts right before Fabio Isolder proposes is sufficiently mocked on that page I linked to... But there's nothing quite like actually reading it and your brain refusing to believe what you're seeing.

My Favourite bit is when it's announced that Han Solo is a king or something. It made me drop the book laughing when I first read it.

Also...

Tee hee... Fabio

So do you Americans call Philosophers, Sorcerers?

Chortle!

You primitive Yanks are so quaint!

Also, I saw the Ealing Film 'The Magnet'.

A lovely little story about a little boy who thinks he kills another boy. (It makes sense in Context.) Incidentally, it seems to pioneer the use of the 'dies of a broken heart' plot point decades before Mr Luca$.

I also like the idea of you changing it in your sig to discombobulate Fink. Earlier this year when Doctor Who related discussion was finding its way into several threads and everyone was changing their avatar to some incarnation of the Doctor or another, Fink kept trying to remind everyone that this was a Star Wars forum. That was fun. If you do change your sig pic to the screwdriver, I think we should plan another mass Who'ing of our avatars...

Awesome! Just don't tell him anyone....

Shhh!!!

Too late!

So, this is that show with the rather attractive redheaded lady, correct?

Correct.

In the words of one of my friends "She's Fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine!!!!!"

Just listened to Spare Parts again.

It really is the best ever Cyberman story, possibly the best Doctor Who story, horrific stuff.

I wish the television show would return the Cybermen to their body horror roots.

That story proved that even after the Borg the idea could be terrifying on it's own terms.

Have you heard I, Davros? It's a sort-of prequel that tells the story of how Davros got to be in that dalek-chair thing. It's also about the dalek's origins and his scientific career. It doesn't feature the Doctor at all, as it's about Davros before he meets him.

Unlike some prequels I could name, it has the benefit of not completely sucking.

Another audio-drama I'd recommend is the Eighth Doctor Story The Chimes of Midnight. Also I'd recommend the Unbound stories, they're What if...? sort-of stories about the Doctor.

The Prequel Radical Redux Ideas Thread

...but I would definitely have Dooku as a rogue Jedi...

Thoughts?

(Sorry for the double post, but this is a separate issue so I wanted to separate them)

I saw the idea elsewhere on this site, so it's not my own, but I loved it.  (not sure what of the following, if any, is my idea, but want to give credit elsewhere just in case - the general idea is definitely not mine)

Dooku is a rogue Jedi, and actually not corrupt at all, (however, presented to the audience as bad in the beginning, an unknown entity) who senses the Sith in the Senate.  Dooku tries to warn the Jedi Council of this corruption but they don't sense it.  So, Dooku leaves the Order and then decides to (either of his own volition or by the influence of Palpatine - it doesn't even have to be defined though) start a Separatist faction that could battle the Senate and rid the Sith corruption from the Senate.

Basically Dooku's speech to Ob-wan on Geonosis is true, and Dooku is on the right side.

Now, how much of his character has changed being a Rogue Jedi and no longer under the Order, is up for debate.  I think he would be a man who has had to make his own rules and rethink his beliefs after years of being "brainwashed" - from his point of view.  He would be a little impulsive, untrusting of any Jedi, yet reserved and contemplative at the same time.  Is the entire Jedi Order under the influence of the Sith?  How long has this been going on?  Is the Jedi Order in and of itself, evil and manipulative?  How much of his own training can he trust in?  These are the debates that would be constantly waging war in his own mind.

I would also have Dooku's lightsaber not be red...  this sort of man wouldn't adopt that color.  He might change his original to show his distancing from the Order, but not to red.  If it would be remotely applicable and accepted anywhere, purple COULD be used in this instance, however I'm still on the fence about that particular color.  And hey, this is the radical ideas thread  :)

Someone posted a video a while back of dooku with a white lightsaber. It was pretty cool and gave his character a little more ambiguity in terms of where his loyalties laid.

It's Official: George Lucas hates his fans :P

One of the reason 'gay' movies aren't shown or marketed as often as other films in the USA, is largely due to the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) judging films in that vein as 'NC-17'.

For those of you who don't live in the United States (which I don't, so I'm sort of in a handicap here), the ratings system for motion pictures in the United States goes as follows:

G - General Audiences. All Ages Admitted.

PG - Parental Guidance Suggested. Some Material May Not Be Suitable For Children.

PG-13 - Parents Strongly Cautioned. Some Material May Be Inappropriate For Children Under 13.

R - Restricted. Children Under 17 Require Accompanying Parent or Adult Guardian.

NC-17 - No One 17 and Under Admitted.

In contrast to these, the categories that are currently used in the UK (of which I live currently) by the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) are as follows:

U - 'Universal', Suitable for All

PG - General viewing, but some scenes may be unsuitable for young children

12/12a - Suitable for 12 years and over. No one younger than 12 may see a ‘12’ film in a cinema. No one younger than 12 may rent or buy a ‘12’ rated video work.

15 - Suitable only for 15 years and over. No one younger than 15 may see a ‘15’ film in a cinema. No one younger than 15 may rent or buy a ‘15’ rated video work.

18 -Suitable only for adults. No-one younger than 18 may see an ‘18’ film in a cinema. No-one younger than 18 may rent or buy an ‘18’ rated video.

R18 - To be shown only in specially licensed cinemas, or supplied only in licensed sex shops, and to adults of not less than 18 years

From the research I've done, the MPAA seems to treat homosexual material much more harshly than heterosexual material. (Although I'm judging this board by the documentary 'This Film has not yet been Rated' and the minimal research I've been able to do about this subject, so I may be wrong and out of date in my information.) In America, films that contain Homosexual behaviour tend to be rated harsher than films with Heterosexual behaviour.

For instance, A film which depicts a Heterosexuality in any way, may be rated 'R', whereas a film that depicts Homosexuality in any way will probably be rated 'NC-17'.

If an American motion picture company finds that, after a film has been made and is pretty much finished, the film is rated NC-17, said film will not receive any financial backing.

In America, an NC-17 is considered the commercial 'kiss of death' for films. In America, the idea that film is fit only for adults still has connotations if it being 'pornographic', 'smutty', 'indecent' or something outside the mainstream. Film studios will either cut films down after receiving the Rating or try to appeal to the MPAA for them to reconsider the rating and  change it to an 'R'. The NC-17 certificate was originally created because there wasn't a rating that could deal with grown-up films which weren't pornographic.

I'm not trying to make America out to be inferior in any way, I'm just talking about ratings and how they are applied. Here in Britain, an 18 rated film is perfectly acceptable. Here we don't have a problem with the idea that films are for adults only, but are still proper respectable movies.

Also what I find odd is that, in America, an R rating (which would probably be a 15 or an 18 here) can be viewed by anyone under the age of 17, provided there's an adult.

Sorry for the wall of text. I totally understand if it's tl;dr.

;)

Mirror Universe George Luca$ is so fit, he makes Jane Fonda look like a chain smoker with syphilis.

You've been to the mirror universe too? It's great isn't it?

Well... Besides the fact that Fox doesn't cancel their shows leaving them to be overdrawn and kinda lame (I'm looking at you Mirror Firefly!). And the fact that the original trilogy in that universe sucks really bad (But the holiday special is damn good.)

It also kinda sucks that everyone is evil, but at least they all have cool goatees.

10/10 REELS OF FLAMMABLE NITRITE FILM
That one got a huge "meh" from me. I can't remember anything about it, really.

You, sir, are dead to me.

I had a thought once that it would be interesting to do fanedits of Tarantino movies that really toned down the violence, because honestly that's the least interesting part of his movies to me.  Not sure if it would work, however, as I haven't thought about it that hard.

Inglorious Ridiculousness?
