Thanks for the heads-up on the comics- it does sound a bit odd...

I didn't see KS's latest film, 'Jersey Girl' (did anyone? lol), but didn't think it was part of the whole 'Jay and Silent Bob' set of films and style.

Luke "Do you remember your Mother? Your real Mother?

Leia " Just a little. She died when I was very young"

Luke "What do you remember?"

Leia "Just images really, feelings"

So what happened in Sith DOES make sense.
I don't see any problem there!

But don't forget the last line....

Leia "She was very beautiful. Kind, but...sad. (looks up) Why are you asking me all this?"

Seriously, this could go either way and we're each going to interpret it in our own way. Perhaps GL will elaborate his feelings on the matter in the audio commentary on the ROTS dvd.

Not to digress on KS too much, but I find him a really odd nut- the dialogue in his films wavers from brilliant and hilarious to mediocre and several articles on a variety of subject that he's written have been very good as well. BUT, that said, I've heard mixed reviews for his comics work (I've never read any of his) and it seems if he strays too far from 'genre' he created in his firest few films his work gets worse.

If you've ever seen the 'Evening With Kevin Smith' DVD though you might agree with me that he's an extremely engaging speaker on a variety of subjects.

Horror Fans?

I for one am a big horror film buff. Any others out there? (I'm sure there are )

I'm thinking of making at least one convention trip this year, and this looks pretty cool:

(and NO, I don't work for that company.. lol) I think it would be super cool to see the enitre cast of 'Evil Dead' together as its one of my favorite films.

What are your faves?

There's a part in the beginning where Hooper-X is doing a discussion panel at a comic convention. Then Ben Affleck heckles him from the audience..."That's a bunch of horseshit....Lando Calrissian was a black guy and he got to fly the Millennium Falcon!!!"

What follows is the absolutely funniest Star Wars references I have ever heard.....

"What's a nubian?"

Absolutely great scene... made even more funny when you consider GL later decided that people/things from the planet Naboo- instead of being 'Nabooian' or 'Nabian'- were instead 'nubian'! Adds a whole new dimension!

Reasons why the O-OT is better than the SE

So Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi won oscars for effects and is hated by many non Star Wars fans for ruining hollywood because its focus is on CHARACTER?

Much amusement will come from you dexters... much amusement.
Never did I say that the OT had either NO effects nor POOR effects. Any awards that the films won were well earned. Odd though that as a film scholar I wasn't aware of any sort of 'hatred' by 'non Star Wars fans' for 'ruining Hollywood'. Though the 'Star Wars' was *one* of the first 'blockbuster' films that set the stage for a shift in production studio mentality, if you really want to blame a film rewind to 'Jaws' which most people who study film consider the first summer 'blockbuster'.

And please do remember that the point of THIS thread was to compare/contrast the SW SE to the OOT, not to put the SW franchise up against any other film or film series. Please think out your comments before posting next time. There is a time, place and willingness for all discussions at these forums.

Maybe being 6, 7 or 10 year old little kiddies watching Star Wars for the first time and getting blown away have something to do with this distorted version of reality. Nostalgia can do a lot of things, and I actually appreciate the choice at least to see the OT in their original form, which Lucas should give fans sometime soon, maybe when HD-DVD or Blue-Ray technology kicks in allowing for truly massive storage and multiple versions of a film to be stored in one disk. That said, I really don't mind the changes at all.

Again I'll refer to your signature line- this being another post in which your diplomacy suffers against your claims of being 'kind and courteous.

Wait, let me backtrack, the new version officially works better now, after Revenge of the Sith.

Considering your signature line, dexters, that was interestingly inflammatory.

I'm a mainstream Star Wars fan exploring the extremes of Star Wars fandom. My views will no doubt be unpopular. I shall be kind and courteous in my postings, and I hope you will be too.

A hope your science experiment goes well, friend. Be wary of trolls though.... there are many bridges here for them to reside under.

I would have paid George Lucas to make a 'perfect' version of the PT... lol.

What I've read is that because of the popularity on both sides of the pond, season 2 will debut at the same time in both countries.

Shame, because it *was* nice to have seen all through season 1 before half of had aired in here in the U.S.

Speilberg's a Wookie!

I'm not too sure what Speilberg did but rumors are he directed a few sequences. My theory is that he directed the Kaasykk battle as it was very U-boatish a la Saving Private Ryan. Plus, when Yoda left in his shuttle, it had an E.T feel to it. Did anyone else get the same impression?

LOL- the escape pod was TOTALLY E.T.!!!! That was my first thought- I almost yelled out loud- "Yodddaaaa- Phone Home!!!!" in the theater!

It seems that Yoda speaks as if he's translating Latin literally into (Basic) English, putting the verb last.

A little quirky pronounciation goes a long way. We already established his speech pattern, but important lines should have come more naturally. In ESB, Yoda's speech is just more abbreviated than anything else:

LUKE: Han! Leia!

The two packing boxes and Artoo fall to the ground with a
crash, then Luke himself tumbles over.

YODA: (shaking his head) Hmm. Control, control. You must learn control.

LUKE: I saw...I saw a city in the clouds.

YODA: Mmm. Friends you have there.

LUKE: They were in pain.

YODA: It is the future you see.

LUKE: Future? Will they die?

Yoda closes his eyes and lowers his head.

YODA: Difficult to see. Always in motion is the future.

LUKE: I've got to go to them.

Imagine the following scene with more convoluted dialogue... we the audience wouldn't have been able to focus on the intensity of the moment. Or mind allows us to hear Yoda-speech without being forced to listen to it:

LUKE: (panting heavily) I can't. It's too big.

YODA: Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hm?
Mmmm.

Luke shakes his head.

YODA: And well you should not. For my ally in the Force. And a
powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. It's energy
surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings are we...(Yoda pinches
Luke's shoulder)...not this crude matter. (a sweeping gesture) You must
feel the Force around you. (gesturing) Here, between you...me...the
tree...the rock...everywhere! Yes, even between this land and that
ship!

LUKE: (discouraged) You want the impossible.

(raises X-Wing from swamp)

LUKE: I don't...I don't believe it.

YODA: That is why you fail.

What if that final line was:

"Fail, that is you why" or somesuch nonsense.

I really didn't want to end up making a dozen versions, revising every fifteen minutes like LFL does these days, so I had held off on releasing them. I'm really now trying to take the three edits of stand alone films and tightly weave them into a trilogy, and then take the six films and tightly weave them into one saga.
Rik and MBJ can vouch for the effectiveness of the end result, even when it comes to *gasp* make changes to the holy trilogy.
It is possible to make even them more powerful.

Now there Mags- I haven't heard talk like THAT since a certain whiny little boy fell to the Dark Side!

Hahaha. Nice.

I think what we really need here is a Palpatine/Vader scene at the end of ANH in between when Luke lands and the awards ceremony. It would play out similarly to the Sidious/Dooku scene at the end of AotC, and cover the deaths of Kenobi and Tarkin, the destruction of the Death Star, and the pilot responsible-who was strong in the Force. Then the ESB conversation should be altered to fit with this new scene.

Ooo OO!! AND while we're at it, let's digitally draw in boxer shorts with hearts on them over all the Stormtroopers and all the Clone Troopers in the PT... just for continuity sake!!

This guy REALLY hates the prequels
Time
Now there is a man who got picked on WAY too much as a child for being a Star Wars fan. Or, more likely, got beat up by his father for begging for SW toys all the time. Through all his caustic condemnation of his view of 'geeks' he reveals that he knows too damn much about SW to not be a geek himself- and despite his decision to lash out at what he probably once was he manages to make a few valid points about the quality of the PT. I'll bet his regular audience doesn't give a damn though...
