that movie rocks, ironically i just watched it the other night.

That was the funniest comedy film I have seen in theaters in as long as I can remember! I was laughing SO hard throughout that film that A) I literally fell out of my seat once and B) Had tears in my eyes from laughing when I left the theater! And I thought Verhoeven couldn't out-do 'Showgirls' for making me laugh!!

LOL

"Its a bug... a big bug."

"It feels..... afraid."

AHhahahahaahaaaaaaa.......

but again we've strayed from topic- now back to our regularly scheduled program...

Time to hop in the Wayback Machine, Sherman!

Back when DKR first came out, the USSR still existed and to those of us growing up in those times it seemed like it would *always* exist so it was only natural that Frank Miller assume that it did. Likewise to some degree Reagan, as some felt he would be some sort of iconic President that would change the laws allowing him to serve more than two terms. Much like when the laws will be changed to allow Ah-nuld to become President!

Harry Potter *Spoilers* (Serious Discussions Only, No Flaming)
Time
Hey all! I thought I'd chime in now that flaming seems to have died down.

I finished 'Half-Blood Prince' last week and enjoyed it. I have a few random thoughts that I'd share, though my coffee hasn't kicked in yet and its early.

Is Dumbledore dead really?

Well, hmmm.... I'd *like* to say yes BUT... based on my readings of the series and the feelings I've had on the ebb and flow of the tale, I'd have to guess a 90% or so sure 'No'. I smell a Ben Kenobi 'strike me down and I'll grow more powerful' scenario here. Actually with the Ministry and Voldemort both gunning for Dumbledore, what better way to fight than to disappear and have everyone think you are dead! Assuming he lives, DD would now not have to run the school or play polictical b.s. games with the rest of the wizarding world. And that would also play into a theory I'll mention later....

R.A.B.?

I agree with the Regulus theory. Magic 8 Ball says 'Yes'.

Length of Book 7?

My gut here says 'Kill Bill' or 'Lord of the Rings'. Either based on her own whim or on publisher's pleading I can envision see 'Book 7' being released in two parts! JKR said 7 would be the last one, but not how many parts it would be! As has been said there are LOTS of loose ends to tie up and I think none of us would want them to be tied either too quickly or too loosely. Not to mention that the publisher, smelling the end of the franchise, would be desperate to make as much money as possible from it. So instead of a single 'Year 7' $30 retail hardcover they could have 'Year 7, Semester 1 and 2', *each* at $30.

Horcrux?

Interesting theory above about Harry being a horcrux. I'll have to think about that one more. Dumbledore did though keep stressing how much the only thing Tom Riddle ever seemed to show any care for was Hogwarts and we already know that supposedly that at least two of the Horcrux are in items from the founders of Hogwarts so I'd imagine the rest would play into that somehow. So I expect to see at the very least Gryffindor's sword being one of the horcruxes. "How when it was always in Dumbledore's care" you ask? Remember- in Chamber of Secrets Harry uses it, via the Sorting Hat, against Riddle's basilisk. Perhaps at that time something transfered to the sword. Then again, as I don't have all the details on what it takes to make something a horcrux, there could be many other explainations.

Harry is toast!

I firmly stand by this one. I came into reading the books only after the movies started coming out and I had avoided (and still do) any HP fan/discussion sites but based on a purely literary reading of the HP books... Harry is going to die in the final book. Not only is he the only thing that can 'cancel out' Voldemort, but all sorts of liitle clues lead to this.

I see it like this:
The final battle gets set up and things look dire for Harry and the world at large. Harry who thinks that he is alone in being able to stand against Voldemort (after Ron and Hermione have finally hooked up and everyone else is busy fighting other battles) will be shocked to have Dumbledore (and possibly Sirius) return at the last moment, only to get brutally attacked by Voldemort or through some mistake Harry makes- at which point Harry sees that to destroy Voldemort he must allow himself to be destroyed. So to save his friends, all that he loves and the world, Harry allows himself to die in the final destruction of Voldemort.
By doing this, all is not horrible for Harry- he's never really fit in anywhere he's been and he longs for those who have passed on to the other side... his parents, Sirius. I envision a scene in which DD and maybe Ron and Hermione stare into the mirror from the first book and see harry re-united with his family. He could finally be happy and he would have fullfilled his place and importance in the wizarding world.

yanks-

I think you mis-read DAYV's post! He finished by saying:
BUT NOW IT'S ONE OF THE ONLY T.V. SHOWS THAT I WATCH CONSISTANTLY.

Meaning he, like most of us, got hooked by the quality of the show! When the new 'mini-series' first aired I couldn't stand watching it after a few minutes, but thanks to the DVD release I gave it another chance and when seeing it without commercials I really dug it. Then watched through the first season and -BANG! I was hooked like a junkie!

Episode 3: DVD - Released november 1st
Time
From The Digital Bits:

Quote

The 2-disc set will hit store shelves on 11/1, as we expected. Both anamorphic widescreen and full frame versions will be available, each with video mastered directly from the film's original digital master files. Audio will be Dolby Digital 5.1 EX. Extras are not yet fully announced, but we do know that you can expect audio commentary with George Lucas and members of the production team, a new feature-length documentary on the making of the film, 2 behind-the-scenes featurettes (one looks at Anakin Skywalker as "the chosen one" and the other deals with the film's stunt work), the 15-part Making Episode III web documentary and a number of newly-completed deleted scenes. You'll also get two playable levels of the Star Wars Battlefront II videogame (for Xbox we assume).

Changes you would like to see in prequel special editions

I second that! Perhaps now that the PT is over we can all get back on track to get the OOT on DVD. We need some sort of new, non-bitchy inspiration.

George's directorial style

one annoying thing he does (at least to me) that he does a ton in the prequels is the master shot with the slow zoom in on the action. in fact, many if not most of his shots of every type feature some kind of slow move in on the subject. it's like the camera just can't sit still.

I don't blame Lucas so much for that one as I do the CGI artists. That's a gripe I have with most CGI establishing shots- in an attempt to make them seem more 'realistic' or dynamic, the digital artists tend to over-do zooms and pans. I personally believe its a fear that if the 'camera' doesn't move then the audience will figure out the shot is not 'real'- sort of a self-fullfilling prophecy IMHO.

I too totally missed the show but am now hooked- and have been forwarding the DVDs to hook other people as well. Its a good move for Sci-Fi network to start showing the program as it should drum up even more interest in the film. Sept. 30 here we come!

I also reviewed the series at my site in my sig line.

Don't get me wrong, Michael Gough is a classy actor and he's the only one who did bring any semblence of dignity to the film. I guess that's why I couldn't stand him randomly being terminally ill. Batman IS the master detective for god's sake- he wouldn't have waited until the last second to even notice Alfred was ready to kick the bat-bucket!

I too would love to make Barbara actually be the correct character but perhaps that change will come in B & R edit 1.2.

When all is done I do hope to get it shared on MySpleen one way or another. Who'da thunk people actually wanted to see this?!?!

ADM, I've trimmed as much overacting and/or mugging as plot allowed. Some characters are totally useless and others- like Uma- are more plot involved so there was less 'cuttable'. Basically if it was useless I tried to get rid of it. In fact, among other things, the entire 'Alfred has got AIDS.. I mean McGregors Syndrome' subplot is gone... WAY gone!

ADM- I'd be happy to hook you up with the edit when its done (and I'm as satisfied as the film will allow ). As I'm sure is the case with many a fan edit I just find myself cringing at some of the decisions made in post. Its a shame that so much hard work went into effects et al but the script and direction was just so god-awful.

I blame it all on my bud BatmanMD- he pestered me into trying it and I got addicted to the challenge.

Not sure whether you intended it or not, but amusingly enough 'BarbWire' IS a remake of Casablanca! I realized it a few mintues into the film and laughed my ass off.

Then my ass came back and I realized the movie was crap... but still a remake nonetheless!

STAR WARS: The Torrents thread

I was told it was when I got the VHS tape but I've never seen either to be honest - it's been sitting in a box for about maybe 5-10 years now (along with the Transformers, Babylon 5 and a few others that I've traded for over the years) I only dug it up since someone asked for the MAXX a few threads or posts back - figured hey it's not Star Wars

So what was Edited??

When MTV released the Maxx on VHS they edited down the individual episodes to basically make a movie. My understanding is that, unlike 'Clone Wars', much of the material was trimmed to keep the running time down. There were 13 half-hour episodes which were edited down to 120 minutes! Quite a loss.

I understand what you're saying, but I don't see it quite like that. ID4 had a drunk Nam vet who pitched in when there wasn't any other help (essentially); good or bad it made some sense within the context of the movie.

The BSG premiere though showed, through not the best use of 'young age' makeup, a wartime friendship that took two different directions. While basic soldiers the two were best buds, one optimistic and one not so much so. Some time later Adama, the optimist, reached his goals while his friend had dropped out (or been run out) of the service due to his alcoholism and mental breakdown. When re-instated by Adama, what *I* took out of it was that Adama, despite the possibly better judgment of everyone else, decided that his friend had something worthwhile and despite the odds he wanted to save him from himself. And by that time of the series (the flashback) the Cylon threat was a thing of the past and the army was moving towards being disbanded basically.
