I'VE BEEN CAUGHT ON FIRE, ELECTRICUTED FOUR TIMES, AND HAD HEAT STROKE THREE TIMES. I'VE SEEN A GUY GET HIS ARM CUT OFF BY A CARDBOARD BAILER WIRE THAT SNAPPED, BECAUSE HE PUT IT ON TOO TIGHT. I JUST CHALK THEM UP TO LIFE EXPERIENCES.

Well I just listened to the story...

probably shouldn't have been sitting on the toilet when I did so...

1) It was an... er... enjoyable account of events. But I do feel that ric is correct, Bossk and DAYV- I haven't *read* the story and have just listened to it but I can see that it would be nowhere near as entertaining to read it as to hear the author's inflections and the audience's reactions. In fact the audience reaction is the best part I feel, and especially the little bit after he finishes reading and talks about how many people pass out litening to it. The mere words, while written well enough, I think would pale in comparison.

2) I don't know anything about this author aside from the film 'Fight Club'. Color me naive but *was* this a true account or merely a first person short story? Just curious.

3) For a similar style of recitation but focusing on far more amusing subjects has anyone heard or heard of Ernie Cline? If not check out his stuff here: http://www.ernestcline.com/ Especially look at his spoken word page and be sure to listen to 'Nerd Porn Auteur'... (I must do this some day!) AND he has written a script that is in circulation for Buckaroo Banzai 2 that supposedly hits the nail on the head!

4) DAYV- like those above have expressed... WOW. All in all its just another brick in the wall... hearts out to you man.

Well I know Leo is doing radio shows and writing books as well as his blog: http://www.leoville.com/

Pat I don't know. It was painful watching him in the last few SS shows because you could just tell it galled him focus on the crap they were changing to and watch clueless non-tech savvy people hosting the various segments.

Hopefully by later today I'll have the bandwidth problem dealt with ... but maybe not.

Back to candy, I *almost* mentioned candy corn. Again, I've eaten it and even told myself I enjoyed it.. but that may just be desperation speaking. I don't think I really ever tried a circus peanut though I've always been curious about them.

So does anyone else deck out their yards/houses?

Now I want some candy....

Remember and keep repeating to yourself... "there's no such thing as G:1980... there's no such thing as G:1980"

And speaking of Starbuck- I REALLY like the character of Kara Thrace! She's developed into a great stand-alone character who echoes the original but is much, much different.

When hearing the commercials, where an unfamiliar male voice is saying "You take the captain, I'll get the son." I first thought they had a second cylon in the mix.

There was a comment made about the type of gun Boomer and the other guy had...about it being an old military issue, I just have this strange feeling we're going to see something about that come up again. There was no reason to point it out unless they mean to do something with it in a later episode.

I believe all they were trying to show with this was, in a subtle and for once in TV unspoken way, that Hatch's partner had set up the entire assassination attempt. If Boomer had been shooting on her own by her own choice, she would have only had access (supposedly) to a military issue weapon. When the comment was made about the gun's origin, the next scene showed a matching gun at the dying guy's side. So instead of Boomer whining 'He made me do it, he gave me the gun!' she just kind of coldly (and machine-like) made it obvious to Adama. Remember the dude gave her the gun earlier.

And yes, I've been avoiding this thread as I had DVRd the last 5 episodes and just yesterday (thanks to a cold) had a chance to catch up. I'm still really enjoying the show and am thankful that I was able to catch up *after* the cliffhanger had concluded.

Like DAYV said this is a remake and not a continuation. Actually I've come to feel that its more of a TRUE-make, in that the original (which I loved) focused more on seperate single-episode adventures (ala Star Trek) with only hints for the most part of the 'greater story' whereas this version so far has pretty much been ALL 'greater story' and very little side stuff. The original never had a chance to come into its own because of the few episodes it lasted. It IS well worth a rent if you'd like to check it out, but have an open mind because there is little resemblence really between the two shows. The Cyclons were true alien invaders in the original too, btw, and not human created. (or if they WERE, they never got there in the story )

I'm also glad that Hatch mended his fences and came aboard the new series. I like his character and think he gives an interesting counterpoint to both sides in the human-based conflicts.

Oh and Shim? 'Galactica: 1980' the series never existed. I mean NEVER existed. kinda like the SW prequels... lol- kidding!

Halloween (the holiday, not the movie)
Time
Growing up, Halloween was my favorite holiday. Still is really, but for a variety of stupid life reasons I hadn't had a chance to celebrate for several years (other than possibly going to clubs on Halloween night itself) nor had I done anything to decorate my house.

Until last year! Thanks to the joys of the internet I discovered all the great websites of people who did their own 'home haunts'. And I got inspired... *real* inspired! So I busted arse for a few weeks before Halloween, enlisted my mom for help and created my own yard haunt!

I finally got around to putting pics of it up on a website which you can check out here:

http://bellsouthpwp.net/g/r/GreenCapt/Halloween/

(please check back later if the link says I've exceeded bandwidth... dang free sites)

What I'd like to know is- what do all of you (if anything) do for Halloween and do you have any pics to share?

Also, for ideas for decorations, etc check out this site:

http://www.halloweenmonsterlist.info/

which is where much of my inspiration came from!

Freeze's gun doesn't 'stick' to the top of the dinosaur at the beginning. Those scenes are taken out. But now, we see a pointless scene of a man 'falling' behind Freeze, the man is the fat one that got thrown at the dinosaur to get the gun down. So now Freeze walks over to the dinosaur with no gun, stops at it base, turns around with his gun, and walks back to his van. HUH???

AhhahahahahahahAHAHAHahahaha...LOL

Actually THAT is my favorite joke in the whole film! At first I was like 'Aw crap what do I do ablout that?!?!?' but then I realized- there's all this other stuff flying around and getting destroyed- WHY NOT! In my mind one of Freeze's goons just busted the guy and sent him flying- and Freeze is too much of a Bad MF to even bat an eyelash!!! I laugh my ass off evertime I watch that cut- that 'fat falling guy' deserves and academy award!

More later gang!

Flash Gordon Rumor - now a 'general discussion' thread for Flash Gordon
Time
The 80s 'Flash Gordon' is one of my all-time favorite films! I was lucky enough to get the bare-bones DVD that already came out and I too have my fingers crossed for a special edition.

Region 2 gets a special edition in a few weeks, the bastards!

It features, according to Amazon.UK, "Mike Hodges Audio Commentary - Brian Blessed Audio Commentary - Interviews - Trailer - Original Concept Artwork - Photo Slideshow - Dolby Digital 5.1 &DTS - Restored Picture Quality - First Episode Of The Original 1940 Serial"

'Klytus I'm BORED. What new playthings have you to offer me today...?'

But, as far as the movies go, the Burton films basically invented the rubber suited look that most people now equate with Batman and that Begins used. In the comics he had a grey spandex suit with black boots, gloves, cape and headgear.

I always used to joke that in the films all a villain needed to do was stay just outside of Batman's peripheral vision because he's essentially wearing a neck brace and very restrictive suit. I've never truly liked any of the cowls.

I believe it to be better than the Burton films. I had major qualms with some of the creative decisions in that movie. One of them was the decision to make Joker the person that kills Bruce's parents. Once Joker is dead, why does he have the passion to stop crime? He's had his revenge. Another qualm is Tim Burton's "Oh woe is me. I'm alone. Nobody loves me." character he has to have in EVERY movie he makes. (Yes, including Mars Attacks.)

Batman Begins does so much more for the character.

I agree with you there, ArtGuy! I was actually a long-term fan of the comics and none of the first four Batman films ever really did it for me either. 'Begins' got it real close!

And remember- if YOU grew up looking like Tim Burton you might be all goth/angsty too! (then again he had Lisa Marie for quite some time, so maybe its worth it!)

LOL!

I hate when she tries to pluck mine too. I'm hoping for a 'Reed Richards' thing going in th next few years.

I only had one class with typing (trying to remember what it was called- 'business skills' or something... it had typing, basic accounting, and shorthand lessons- this being junior high) and we used real typewriters as well.
