End of SE ROTJ...

Serious question is there a book the tells the story of vader from his birth up untill we meet him at the start of ANH cause' if there is id sure like to get my hands on a copy of that, but if there isnt then how can you say he never learnt how to retain his identity in the force, for all we know his master could have taught him that?

Per Lucas' own script for ROTS:

222 INT. POLIS MASSA-OBSERVATION DOME-NIGHT

On the isolated asteroid of Polis Massa, YODA meditates.

YODA: Failed to stop the Sith Lord, I have. Still much to learn, there is ...

QUI -GON: (V.O.) Patience. You will have time. I did not. When I became one with the Force I made a great discovery. With my training, you will be able to merge with the Force at will. Your physical self will fade away, but you will still retain your consciousness. You will become more powerful than any Sith.

YODA: Eternal consciousness.

QUI-GON: (V.O.) The ability to defy oblivion can be achieved, but only for oneself. It was accomplished by a Shaman of the Whills. It is a state acquired through compassion, not greed.

YODA: . . . to become one with the Force, and influence still have . . . A power greater than all, it is.

QUI-GON: (V.O.) You will learn to let go of everything. No attachment, no thought of self. No physical self.

YODA: A great Jedi Master, you have become, Qui-Gon Jinn. Your apprentice I gratefully become.

YODA thinks about this for a minute, then BAIL ORGANA enters the room and breaks his meditation.

BAIL ORGANA: Excuse me, Master Yoda. Obi-Wan Kenobi has made contact.

This would indicate that A) Not every Jedi knew the 'trick' yet B) There's no way in HELL that Anakin would have been able to learn this power prior to the moment of his death (though I can *stretch* logic and think that Ben and Yoda might have mystically had time to teach Anakin's spirit in the few hours between his death and them all showing up at the party and C) that one can infer NOTHING along the lines of the 'way you were when you died as a Jedi/Hayden' bullsh*t.

What actually made it on screen answers absolutely nothing though which leaves the door open for whatever Lucas excuse-du-jour is made up.

I agree 100% with that! The books, games, etc should *expand* the viewer's experience and NOT be required to know WTF is going on. And the way Lucas and LFL screwed up SW continuity (and continue to do so) even READING everything doesn't help one be any more claer on some things!

Anyone read the original TMNT black-and-white comics from Mirage press or play the RPG that came out some time ago? TMNT was one of the first indy comics I ever got into and it was much much grittier than any of the animated or film versions. *And* they all wore the same color masks (blood red!).

The series quickly evolved from its roots as a parody of the comic 'Daredevil' to be its own... er... critter. And I always loved that in the comic that the same toxic waste container that blinded Matt Murdoch and made him Daredevil was the one that dropped into the sewers and mutated the turtles.

And on an amusing note- the Turtles had visible tails (as turtles do) in the original comics. I used to do lay-outs for my high school's weekly 'news' paper and a friend and I got busted for drawing a TMNT in one issue- because people who didn't know the characters thought we drew turtles with wangs! Same reason they stopped drawing them in later versions.

On a second amusing note I have a video produced from a comic convention about a year before the animated series debuted in which the creators- Eastman and Laird- are talking about the comic and say something to the effect of "we just had some group approach us about doing an animated version olf the turtles... but those things are generally crap and never glo anywhere." AHahhaahahaaaaa.... talk about an understatement from guys who within a few years could probably wash their windows using the spare cash they had as rags.

Had a good comic day today! Hit the comic shop and bought a couple of issues and got 4 packages of eBay comic purchases in the mail. Whoo-hoo! If tomorrow goes well I'll get some sit-on-my-ass-and-read-comics time.

Also despite my hating the concept of Wikipedia I checked the Marvel section and got the low-down on all their different lines/imprints. Wow- Marvel really took a 'who the hell cares about continuity as long as we can sell some comics approach to publishing. I don't know if I like it. Seriously oe of the cool things (to me at least) about the big two publishers was the great sense of history. I read a few press releases and statements from Joe Quesada and gee- he really sounds like a prick to me!

Why I hate "The Incredibles"

Actually the closest reference to existing comics stories would be to Alan Moore's excellent series 'Watchmen' which came out in the 80s. Though 'Watchmen' was far from being aimed at kids there are several similar themes and I have to believe that more than one of the creators of 'The Incredibles' was more than passingly familiar with 'Watchmen'.

Oddly a studio is in pre-production on a 'Watchmen' film which I honestly hope never gets made- 1) Because 'The Incredibles' *did* cover some of the same ground in a much more family-centric way and 2) because I don't think any filmmaker will be able to do justice (no pun intended) to 'Watchmen' and instead I feel it will become yet another 'action figures and happy meal' movie which is FAR from the actual intent of the story.

I used to drink the hell out of YooHoo! And who EVER claimed it was milk?!?!? No seriously- its water based... even the label just says 'chocolate flavored beverage'. No hint of milk anywhere.

I remember being....14, I think, when on a rainy day in November I was home for some reason from school, I walked about 1/2 mile to the local store (Convenient Food Mart, was the name I think) and seeing a copy of Batman #400. My brother had collected for a long time, but I never really had any interest. Well, when I saw it I had to have it, especially with the foreword by Stephen King. That's when I fell in.

Those *were* the days, eh? At around the same age I went out one bitterly cold morning and walked about a mile to the shop that I usually bought mine at. I was freezing but it was worth it- I got comics, man!

My best friend growing up (who now has an 8 year old who is starting to get into comics) and I used to bug relatives into driving us to the nearest city (which was 40 miles away) that had a real comic shop. Those were magic places. Everytime I went on road trip vacations with my family it was a given that one of the first things I'd do was hit the phone book looking for comic shops and end up begging to be taken to them. Luckily I had a supportive family. And for you youngins, this was before the days of the internet... we had to look for comics the old fashioned way- slowly!

Yep same in the comic at least for awhile. Also gave him the ability for endless webshooting without having to wear webshooters. Of course they dropped the shooters in the films anyhow.

the symbiot being the spidey costume is also why his black costume is very similar to how venom appears. Think of the venom costume without the crazy face and fangs (just a normal head) and in the same build as spidey and you have spideys black cosutme. I do remember hearing/reading that spidey had made an actual black costum in design of the one he had with the symbiot but dont really know the details on that (if he used it, for how long, my guess would be if he used it once venom showed up he went back to the red/blue)

You're spot-on. The free floating symbiote was held prisoner by the Fantatic Four for awhile but escaped and stalked Spidey. For a few months afterward he did have a cloth black costume. When the symbiote found Brock and became Venom Spidey went back to his original threads (thanks to fan outcry at the time actually).

This kinda does make sense, even if it doesn't follow the comics 100%...but then what film does??

Aslo this pics looks so fucking cool as a desktop pic!!

I agree its a great shot- kind of like Spidey goes to Sin City! And I really don't care much about comic-to-film continuity because there are certain things you can't do well in either format- I just wonder why you need Spider-Man himself in a symbiote costume AT ALL if in fact that is what they're going to do. It would be enough, IMHO, for the Venom story (again IF that is what they're doing) to JUST have Brock get taken over by a symbiote and have it, via his own psyche, mimic Spidey's costume.

Think about things that complicate films for audiences. S1 and S2 were basically straight forward with no hints of aliens and such- villains had 'real-world' explanations. So how do you make it similarly toned with any sort of 'Spidey finds alien symbiote, Spidey fights self with alien symbiote and wins, alien symbiote finds guy who hates Parker and makes him Venom, they fight'. Waaayyyy to complicated.

If they do a Venom story it would play much better like this: Random scientist (Grace?) works on some sort of nanotech blah blah blah experiment that of course gets out of hand and creates oooy black blobby stuff, Spidey intervenes to help and maybe gets sprayed with black stuff temporarily changing costume black (?) but black gooey stuff also covers someone else (say either Grace or... another person playing Brock who was on hand trying to get photos to beat Parker, Spidey ditches his suit realizing that the ooey black stuff is kinda alive, Venom created from rest of stuff (maybe joining with what little bit came off of Spidey). They fight, etc.

Its also been speculated that Sandman may only be in an opening teaser sequence similar to a Bond film which considering how early they revealed his character is very possible.

Thanks JS. I'm a pretty logical guy but Marvel just seems so... out there now. And I used to be a Marvel reader primarily (well except for the years I managed the comic shop... then I could read *everything* Mmmhhwwhaaahahahahahahahaaaa).

Er yeah.

Thanks for the reading suggestion too- I just read the Superman Sacrifice TPB and enjoyed it. I'm also catching up on JLA and some of the minis that lead into Infinite Crisis. I have the Supreme Power maxi-series on it way to me in the mail.

Kinda like revisiting old friends.

And Moon Knight is coming back! I love that guy! And DC has a new Warlord series- another book I followed back in the 'buying from the Quickie-Mart' days.

All they say is:

You may think you’re looking at a black and white photo. Look closely, Spider-Man wears a black suit in Spider-Man 3. Tobey Maguire returns as Peter Parker / Spider-Man in Spider-Man 3. In Theaters 5/4/07

I still don't know. I mean, I realize that a movie studio would NEVER lie to us but...

just seems like a nebulous tease to me. Then again, I'm a cynical bastard.

Here's the poop. Yeah, he's an ass and I don't even LIKE sports!

"Finally, tonight, the Winter Games. Count me among those who don’t like them and won’t watch them ... Because they’re so trying, maybe over the next three weeks we should all try too. Like, try not to be incredulous when someone attempts to link these games to those of the ancient Greeks who never heard of skating or skiing. So try not to laugh when someone says these are the world’s greatest athletes, despite a paucity of blacks that makes the Winter Games look like a GOP convention. Try not to point out that something’s not really a sport if a pseudo-athlete waits in what’s called a kiss-and-cry area, while some panel of subjective judges decides who won ... So if only to hasten the arrival of the day they’re done, when we can move on to March Madness — for God’s sake, let the games begin."
