1) He's basically the poster boy hermit/dedicated creator in the comics world... one of a dying breed of brilliant, wacko artistic types. It can be fun, it can be annoying but he's certainly one of a kind. (oh and I AM a big fan of his). The media, knowing he doesn't watch TV, most films, etc likes to essentially pester him about his work getting made into other forms- as in 'V'... its my underatanding that he made no effort to speak out against it UNTIL the media sought him out and said 'So what do you think of *this*' and he gave his opinion.
2) The works of his that are getting made into films are at various levels of creator ownership so he generally has very little say over what has the movie rights sold and what liberties the productions take with the works. He knowingly signed the contracts for every work he has done and he isn't stupid so though he may not like the films made of his works but he has very little choice in the matter. Though if he was really clever in film lore he should have made them put 'Based in the Graphic Novel by Alan Smithee'!

I was going to get it Thurs. but my LCS was sold out though supposedly getting more in this week. As a random purchase I did get Marvel's 'Annihilation Prologue' and it was entertaining in a cosmicy kind of way. Don't know if it'll get me to buy the rest of the series (and associated minis) but I wasn't disappointed I bought it.

I'll second that motion! If you want the bare minimum to catch up, I'd read 'Crisis On Infinite Earths', 'Identity Crisis', 'Superman Sacrifice' and then 'Infinite Crisis', in that order. The other series are various levels of greatness as well, but tend to be a little more 'side story'-ish. Then again the more you read the more fullfilling the experience is.

They do sound interesting and like many things had totally passed me by during my last dormant period of comic reading. C'mon- buy 'em, read 'em, review 'em... NOW!

sean- manga are comics so there's no reason not to talk about them!

MINORITEAM STARTS SAVING THE WORLD THIS SUNDAY
Just when you thought the world will again be safe for vapid, mind-draining animation, Adult Swim announced it starts airing MinoriTeam this Sunday.
MinoriTeam is a crew of superheroes whose powers are based on their ethnic stereotype. Leader (and Prof. X clone) Mr. Wang is a strategically and mathematical genius. He also owns a laundromat and should never, ever get behind the wheel of a car. Fasto can run faster than the speed of light and has the endurance levels great enough to satisfy a room of Thai hookers. On the other hand, the one person who always whupp his hide is his Momma. Then there’s El Jefe, by day a Texas oil baron, by night a hat dancing, greasy pachuco armed with a leaf blower so powerful it can shatter the barriers between the dimensions.
Then there are the villains, who for some bizarre reason all happen to be upright, conservative Wonder Bread types (even if they carry nicknames like Racist Frankenstein, Corporate Ladder and White Shadow).

Lucas interviewed in Time Magazine 3/14/06
from article:
G.L.What happened with Pixar is they made brilliantly creative movies, but they looked different. They had a different quality about them than on television, than Rugrats. When you see a 3D movie, you assume it’s a higher-quality movie and it’s something you don’t see on television. Now the television show I’m working on, the Star Wars television show, is 3D.
R.C.When you said you were going to do Star Wars in 3D, do you mean in the old-fashioned 3D?
G.L.Yeah, with glasses and everything.
R.C.Did you think of this when you were making the movies?
G.L.No, no, no. I had no idea. And that’s what makes it great. There’s a difference, because it used to be a cheap trick, which is you had a 3D movie. Now it’s a movie, but it happens to be in 3D. It’s just a 3-Dimensional way of looking at a movie that doesn’t call attention to itself, it just works. And the quality is higher. I was very much against 3D until I saw this new process and said, hey, this actually works in a way that it should work, which is it doesn’t call attention to itself, you forget that you’re watching in 3D, it’s just a nicer process.
R.C. I have to say that when I saw Spy Kids 3D, the glasses kept slipping down my nose.
G.L.Well, now they’ve got better glasses.
INDY 4
R.C. If you’re retired, I guess you’ll be less involved with an Indiana Jones 4 than you were in the first three?
G.L. Well, I’ve been working on Indy 4 for ten years. So I’ve been more involved, so no matter how you count it on this one I’ll be more involved than I’ll have ever been on the other three put together. It’s taken forever to get a script of it. That’s my part of it.
R.C. Isn’t Harrison Ford now older than Sean Connery was when he played his father in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade?
G.L. Uhh, yeah. But the thing is designed for that. And I think it’s funny, it’s exciting. You know the problem there, which is not a problem, is that we don’t have to make that movie. All we can do is hurt ourselves, all it’s going to do is get criticized. I mean it’s basically Phantom Menace we’re making. No matter how you do it, no matter what you do, it won’t be what the other ones were in terms of the impact or the way people remember them.

All I have is hopes- I hope they don't kill Wally *just* to fullfill some sort of 'we must kill a Flash' role in a 'Crisis' series. I HOPE they don't attempt to bring Barry back as that would kill what respect I have for DC (even if its another 'Barry's back- no its a fake, blah blah blah' story). But I *imagine* that they'll sacrifice Wally and make Bart Flash. What do you think?

Should be no difference, with the exception of the opening credits music/montage in Season 1. Otherwise there are, as far as I know, no different cuts, editing, etc. Now with Season 2 even the credits are in sync.

OK, This is going way off-topic, but someone mentioned Mel Gibson, so I gotta ask - Does anyone know if that story about Mel Gibson getting horribly disfigured then a priest paying for his cosmetic surgery and Mel becoming a devout christian is true? Sounds far-fetched to me. I mean, Mel Gibson has always been a pretty good looking guy, so facial disfigurement seems unlikely.

Nope... Urban Legend

I'll post a better screencap of Spacey as 'Evil' when I make one. The above was the first one I could find online.

As for 'Hulk' I only recently saw it but would only rate it about 2 1/2 skulls out of 5. Well shot visually for the most part but I feel it suffers from too many chefs- Lee who may or may not have known the characters wanted to do one type of film. This kind of story works just fine in comics where you can have all sorts of specials and 'What If?'s or various single issues. The studio on the other hand wanted another 'Spider-Man', etc and there are *so* many scenes in the films which just scream to me 'studio interference' and I'm sure it was a constant battle... and when it comes down to it the studio pays the bills so they're allowed to do that. Many films mess around with the source material and I'm cool with that as long as it benefits and/or improves the story (ie Raimi decides not to make Peter Parker a scientific genius so the audience can relate to him a bit more, and therefore a non-genius would have had a hard time inventing webshooters- so they become organic to the spider bite).
I think I've reached a point with the new Superman film that I just don't care. None of the supposed plot elements sound all that interesting to me and none of the pictures released scream 'Superman' to me. I hope Routh is a great actor but to me he appears to have the same slack-jawed expression in every image. 'Duh I'm, uh, Superman right? Oh yeah- I'm wearing this suit.'
I'll probably not make any big effort to see this film. I wish that Singer would have just tried to make it his own instead of trying to make it a 'sequel' to Superman II.
