I have said that you can get the AVCHD version and rip out the m2ts file and convert it to a .ts file that will play on your PC and will be exactly the same as a .mkv version. It takes a few minutes with free software and the quality is exactly the same because you are not re-encoding the file.

oops my bad. Thanks ady

the best plan of action is to have 1 master version: 1080p

everything after that is just downconverts.....it makes life a lot easier for those that

want the best quality.....................................i'm sure someone will take the time to

do all the downconversions to other formats, and disc sizes................

its just easier to have 1 master version, and everyone else can pick and choose

which version they will use, and not have to waste time downloading a huge

file they will never need/use..

later

well not really. I will have the 1080p master and be doing all the coverts myself. I will have extras to add to the DVD versions and i like to create everything myself, like the menus etc. That way i can make sure the quality is the same throughout the releases. just having 1 file released isn't the way to go. not everyone wants the 1080p version. The versions i will be doing is:

DVD-5 PAL & NTSC
DVD-9 PAL & NTSC
XVID
1080p AVCHD (anyone wanting just the movie can rip the m2ts from the disc and convert it to a ts stream without having to re-encode with freeware tools that wil play on your PC. Takes a few minutes)
And when media & Burners become cheaper i will be doing a Full Blu-Ray version

That covers everyone (apart from HD-DVD owners. But if i want to cover dead formats i may as well make a Betamax/ VHS version too. lol)

dunno why u guys bother with discs with their fail rate and compatibility issues. just hook up a pc/laptop to your tele.

What about hard drive failures? I've had my fair share of failures with those things and lost so much stuff i prefer to back up my stuff on Taiyo Yden DVDs and store them in an air tight container. At least if you use decent media like Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden you'll have great computability and they will last probably longer than a hard drive, and no chance of accidental erasure either. And pen drives are unreliable. even the best makes have problems. You have more chance of losing impostant data the higher capacity drives are.

please do a 1080p mkv version. I hope other peeps want this as well.

like everything you should back stuff up to dvd or an external drive. and consider replacing drives every few years before they die.

I had so many good brands dvd-rs fail on me. plus they take up so much space and are slow and i always lost my marker pen to label them!

well u can get 8gb pen drives for around £15. it won't be long before you can get 12gb ones. You can then take it round your friends and copy it to his computer.

save the environment kids.

edit: you can get 16GB sandisk usb drive for around £50.

1080p will be awesome. i've only got a 720p screen but I'm bound to upgrade in the next year or so. presumably it will be available in mkv format. this seems to be the format of choice for these monster files.

dunno why u guys bother with discs with their fail rate and compatibility issues. just hook up a pc/laptop to your tele.

I have seen the coat first hand at Celebration IV, and it is 100% brown.

Yeah, it's not like LucasFilm would ever display something that was inaccurate or in any way re-created.

*eye roll*

I think you'll find that when Han Solo encountered Darth Vader on Cloud City his underpants were most definitely brown.

ok this is more ROTJ related, but was just surfing on wookiepedia and i found this:

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Scenes_cut_from_Star_Wars

"Endor Battle - General Crix Madine was to have scenes aboard a Mon Calamari ship during the final battle. These scenes were filmed. Actor Dermot Crowley claims to have spent a few extra days filming in a moving chair shouting things such as "Fire!". There are cut shots of rebel gunners aboard the Millennium Falcon. It was rumored that the B-Wing fighters would be given more to do during the battle in the Special Editions. These scenes have apparently been held back for a future release."

anyone know what evil uncle george is plotting?

in the event of released secret footage of any of these films, would ady ever consider a star wars re-revisited?

is george actually palpatine?

Here's some great pictures dipicting the scenes that ben_danger was talking about....for those not in the know.

Adywan,

In regards to your decision to assemble TESB:R in HD 720p, Are you still planning to release this as a standard DVD as well?

I ask for two reasons -

1 Distribution

Given that ANH:R clocked in around the 7GB mark and a lot of people are still only getting their hands on it now, Just how are people going to get a much larger video out and about?

2 Compatibility

By this point everyone has a dvd player, But how many people really have the setup for High Definition content? Especially in a loungeroom setup.

As a sidenote, Just how noticeable is the quality between 576p and 720p on a movie as badly treated as the star wars films have been? This is a serious question, I'm not trying to ba a smartass.

I have a great interest in HD, I'm just wondering if it is all worth it. I'm hoping it's certainly not akin to a white elephant. If my comments seem out of place, by all means put me on the right track [Adywan].

a 720P mkv file should weigh in at around 4.4GB.

I have a pc hooked up to my HDTV which makes it easy to watch anything.

From what I've heard from peeps that saw the high def version on Sky it was a big improvement on the dvd release.

I'm a newcomer to all this and have just breezed thru the 2 threads of these new versions. Apologies for being a little off-topic I just want to sum up my thoughts.

I'm downloading a copy of ANHR on emule which I should have in a few days.

From what I've read I'm amazed at the work that's gone into this and the screenshots are a big improvement.

A lot of the decisions have been made are the right ones IMO and seem to be what the fans want. Undoing a lot of SE crap and fixing mistakes and dated stuff. I'm also pleased that the next installments will be 720P - another good move.

ESB should mainly be a restoration job, there really isn't that much wrong with it compared to the other films.

I know it's not the popular view but in a lot of ways ROTJ is my favorite. Jabba scenes / Emperor scenes / and Final Death star battle are some of my favorite parts of the series. Just try to forget the whole ewok thing.
