A Preservative also keeps something to last longer than it would do without it.

As nice and as amazing as the original unaltered film is… If it’s rotten or showing moldy bit’s on it you won’t want to consume it.

It’s not an argument I get it. But how many people want moldy or rotten bits.

Being Marketable is a very important factor also.

The “moldy” and “rotten bits” are things that have been in the film since the beginning so your analogy doesn’t make sense.

What you’re asking for simply has nothing to do with the this project’s goals.

They should get it back to exactly how it was or as close as humanly possible. Then use that version as a basis for future enhanced versions.

Indeed, like what Mike has done.

But I think the main motivation for the change is now clear. But with that said they still missed a small slither off the back right hand corner so It could not have been the main motivation.

I did a quick edit on the special edition to roughly fill in the full shape. I am no expert artist but this is the best I could do. And it’s a damn shame they did not fix it properly whilst changing stuff to make inconsistancy.

My wish would be have the Original Hangar and the full Millennium Falcon shape but I know what preservation types are like they are too strict when it comes to perhaps a goof like that. I’d like to re-define what preservation is but they won’t have it.

That does look better. thanks for pointing that out. When I originally saw Mike’s video it did strike me as a bit off.

It certainly won’t have more detail than the original negs, I don’t see how that could be possible as the prints are derived from them.

If they had more detail then I think we would be breaking some fundamental laws of physics 😃

He restored the latter part of the crawl by re-purposing the earlier part. The result he says is “probably better than the quality of the negative”.

Ady: have you ever considered filming yourself as you work (ie a camera looking over your shoulder) and either selling or posting the clips as a teaching tool on how to edit?

Perhaps do live Twitch streaming, this would also be a way to raise funds through subscriptions/ donations.

I know it's just a pet peeve, but the way in which this scene shows on screen has always bothered me. I don't know that there is anything that can be done about it, but it just is so in your face bad it irks me every time.

This came up a while ago, and if I recall correctly that matte painting and others would have been pretty seamless in theatres. I imagine that when Team Negative One puts out their preservation of Jedi said paintings won't stick out like a sore thumb. Another one of those situations where we probably weren't intended to see those shots at negative quality, and the added Blu Ray definition makes them look fake as all hell.

This scene is distracting enough with Lando's strap switching from side-to-side now you've got me staring at the matte painting.

wait!there was a spider!?i must not have been looking hard.

Could be the screen. The spider is hard to spot on my 720p tv which suffers from crushed blacks. It looks positively glorious on my 1080p monitor however.

Edit: I know the source is 720p but gives an indication as to the age of my tv.

please someone tell me that the 'space slug glove parachute pants arm puppet' is going to be fixed eventually.  once you look away from the falcon and look at the crater's edge and the fabric rippling over it, it becomes so obvious it is a poorly realized puppet and you can never look at it the same way again!

Thanks for ruining that sequence for me. BTW could watch that clip for hours.

The source files, like his editing timeline and all of his elements? I'm sure that's prohibitively huge to be released. I'm not sure if Ady has the hard drives to keep them around though once he's done.

Yep that's what I meant.

How much space is it. Surely at least someone can donate a hard-drive. I've got a spare 750GB lying around.

Once it's gone - it's gone.

is it just me or does something look not quite right with darths retracting saber.

everything else is spot on

Now there have been a couple of comments complaining that its retracting too slow. Now to get the retraction correct i used the scene where Vader and Luke are on Endor where vader inspects Lukes new saber. It takes 8 frames to retract from full blade to gone. The one in my video is also 8 frames. Now in the OT the blades take between 6 and 8 frames to retract (apart from ANH where they just disappear), but in the PT they only take between 4 and 6 frames. So there is no correct speed for them to retract. as long as it is between 4 and 8 frames then it will be screen correct

It does seem slow. I assume you considered that not all the saber is in shot so it would takes less frames to retract?
