Back to the PT, In TPM there are three alien species that have accents, and only Huttese is spoken as the foreign language within the movie. By AOTC, there is some Geonosian, and by ROTS there is little or no foreign language. So there arent enogh species in the entire PT to justify using (presumably ethnic) accents.

It is interesting to note that Han never speaks aforeign language, but only interprets it.

Now this is not to be an official theory; I am not a blind PT fanatic (evident if you have read some of my posts), but want to suggest something.

I think the reason that the aliens have accents in the PT is because the Galactic Republic was more politically cohesive than the Empire, because there was a tighter economic system that reqires a universal language for interplanetary trade, diplomacy, and communication. 35 years later, the EMpire is not capable of maintaining economic stability due to the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic civil war, so there has been a regress into a more localized cultural system in which all social activities are not on a galactic scale.

Or the Occam's razor explanation was to dumb down the film into racist stereotypes by using accents, and make it more marketable to children.

The writing went south during the PT because Lucas simple started to take more and more unilateral control in keeping a cohesive film saga. What then happened was that instead fo a stand-alone film or a six hour film trilogy, you have an unwatchable 14-hour film, riddled with as much contradictory statements as there are CGI effects. This is what happens when marketing and narcissism replace actual filmmaking. (And the reason why film is practically dead in the present day)

That was harsh. Well Im only 20, and this is not a joke thread. Im am only suprised at how fast electronics technology has accelerated in the last 20 years. I mean I understand the analogy. Its just for me to understand how Lucasfilm can release an LD quality DVD in the late 2000's.

I have a silly question, but I think it could clear things up for me, and its about the change in video technology. How can the best laserdisc transfer from the 90s end up being the most visually unwatchable DVD today? And, are the 2006 SW DVD's analog?

Oh yeah, that's absolutely right; what's happening to SW is like Michaelangelo burning the sistine chapel because he was originally dissatisfied with his work on the ceiling. Even Uwe Boll isn't forcing us resort to the Black Market to get a decent copy of a movie so we dont have to watch it on some primitive TV set to enjoy it.It will get worse

NO RANDY, it's because no other movie in film history has been locked up by its own creator in an attempt to erase memories of a beloved franchise. And when the OOT finally comes out, its given a substandard industry release- which I think is criminal. These discs are not standard DVD quality.

It seems when SW finally get what they wish, it gets horribly distorted in ways no one could ever imagine. And to think a worn out 25-year old VHS tape is 100 times better in quality than the DVD release for the OOT makes you suicidal. To think that this will be the last time ever Lucasfilm will release the Originals in such bad quality is also a fatal blow for all film preservationists everywhere. Believe me, Lucas will keep these films out of public domain for centuries to come; the only solution is to have a DVD recorder in 1977,1980, and 1983 because no fan would have imagined this tragedy of astronomical porortions.

Ansering the title question, I would wean myself off the SW for good, and pretend it never ever happened, or become a flagellant and mourn the loss of a part of film history and make a saga out of that that can slightly ease the grief, giving maybe a better film than SW

That question is the fault of Lucas redoing the OOT, in which Vader only knows about Luke 90 minutes before the end of ESB.
If you want an answer, according to Lucas revisionist PT story, the name skywalker is a dead giveaway for Vader. Its like if Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky had a child named Bill Clinton jr. and he lived Arkansas with Roger Clinton for the first 20 years of his life.
