Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

I don't believe this to make myself depressed. I think the decisions made in the SW franchise over the last 15 years have revealed GL's true nature. There was no way the man made the movies we love.

I don't like it that you people consider me mentally ill because I have a pessimistic view on the franchise, and that we are at the mercy of a sadist when it comes to watching these movies on DVD/BD.

LFL cannot do that simple act, having the originals on Blu-ray. It's sad that we will never see the OOT in theaters again outside of rebel screenings. When the OT hits 3-d in 2015 it's undeniably going to have more changes in it than the BD will have in six months. It makes sense that they moved up the release date a week, because it probably took them half an hour to make the BD transfer, and just pissing away the remaining months. Lets we at least get the GOUT on Blu-ray by 2013, and let's hope it's at least anamorphic, even though it will look like shit (that's like saying water is wet).

Speaking of the Mona Lisa, that's eventually going to rot away in a few years, because the material it's painted on was substandard. I guess GL put the OT on bad film stock so it would rot faster.

Are the restored elements for the 1997 special edition still intact ?
Time

I hope you are right. LFL can spend millions of dollars restoring a print only to let it rot five years later. They can afford to waste money.

It baffles me that they would go and do the worst possible job in transferring a movie to DVD twice. And they control every aspect of SW, so ironically they are the only people that can do the best video transfer, yet a complete idiot with no knowledge of film can do a better transfer that is a hundred times better that either the GOUT or 04 DVD.

Star Wars could have been a modern day Iliad.
Time

Say we had a US senator who decided to become president by invading his own state through a shady corporation controlled by the same senator under a poorly disguised alias, inciting destabilized confidence in the current presidency and calling for the election of a new senator. Then, after his second term is almost up, he declares war against himself by having this same shady corporation build an army to help a sham organization secede from the US, allowing him to stay in power unconstitutionally and get him an army composed of genetically engineered beings. Then he kills his own allies years later (right after the war ends) and declares the US to be an empire headed by him, and then have no resistance against him for almost twenty years. Does that make sense to anybody? Because that is what happens in the PT.

It makes no sense to anyone but GL. The plot of the PT is so lacking in common sense that it cannot exist in any plane of reality. You are forced to accept that it is just a movie and cannot suspend your disbelief in watching it. With this knowledge you realize you are seeing something artificially written and this is the ultimate violation of cinema. With the OT, you don't see actors standing in front of a green screen speaking forced, unnatural dialogue written by a man who has no connection with reality, you see a world you are convinced exists in the same reality as we do, despite having fantastical elements. Even Jedi has this edge of realism over the PT. Palpatine could not one step of his convoluted, irrational grand scheme within the constructs of the OT. It only works as fiction written by a schizophrenic. Therefore, the entire PT is an unintentional work of surrealism.

If the shoe fits...

What if Homer made a prequel to the Iliad and the Odyssey that was just as bad as the PT? Those two works would never have become the classics of western civilization as they are now. To be honest, at first I didn't even hate the prequels; but then I found out they were terrible movies from other people. Before that I honestly believed that these were as good as the OT. But I guess I was stupid (I hate to say this, but it took me years to realize that TPM was a bad movie). Six years after the PT and we have gone from a great film trilogy to a six-film franchise that may not even be half-good. Its now painful to watch these films, knowing what could have happened, GL took the route that was a hundred times worse than our worst fears. SW is dead, man.

I'll be satisfied if one person agrees with me on that statement.

May I ask you WHY you thought TPM was a good movie? Just curious. I mean, did you enjoy it, or aspects of it, did you have reasons to think that way?

I was naive, and thought any SW movie was going to be inherently good. I saw the OT for the first time two years prior, and was surprised that another SW movie was out. Unfortunately, my taste in movies wasn't very good at the time (no access to imdb), so I thought the lightsaber scenes between Darth Maul and Qui-gon/Obi-wan was awesome. Now to be fair I never liked Jar-Jar and always kept thinking what Darth Vader would sound like speaking Jake Lloyd's lines. At the bottom, I lived under a rock and didn't know people hated it and felt it was a letdown. Now I can't bear to watch it like the rest of the PT.
