Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

I do hope that jar jar is in every single frame of all 6 movies of this new release.

Everybody here was saying that the blu-ray.com forum was being a bit biased about this release and i must now concur with that conclusion. You can't even put in your 2 cents without getting told by a moderator to stop unless it involves saying the following: "I love these movies and I hope they have changed more stuff this time around."

It's really weirding me out.  It's like there is some agenda going on.  Are millions of people on the LFL payroll?

It's like the worst of capitalism all over again; a defective product that the company doesn't care if it is defective, people who dissent against the company's policies are silenced, and the destruction of a cultural legacy. People should be hung up on the fact that the originals are nowhere on this set yet there are two 90 minute documentaries on Star Wars parodies and the motherfucking legion of manchildren (or whatever those people call themselves).

You know what? The whole goddamn franchise is worthless; only 35 years later do we realize that SW should have been aborted from the start and GL should have been forbidden from being 500 feet within a camera. We did not deserve to be treated like this; I'm just walking away from SW.

Is it just me or does Vader's newfound purple saber remind you of this shot of Mace? More PT-conforming... :-(

I can at least be grateful that they didn't make the OT sabers pointy.

It's cinematic inbreeding. The shot in ROTS is supposed to rip off that scene in ESB, and then they change that scene in ESB to make it look like the one in ROTS.

I hat to bring this up again, but that new trailer made me sad and angry; it just continues to shove in my face that the real versions of the movies will be nowhere on the set, and yet we have this crap that only rubs salt into our wounds.

Sadly, this film will eventually be considered one of the worst films of 2012, if not this decade.

Could you lend me your crystal ball? ;-)

No. But he can lend you his crystal skull...

You don't need a crystal ball. You know it's going to suck based on the PT and crystal skull. The success of a film is based on who makes it.

Why am I not at all surprised?

And why would LFL pump the color levels to such a terrible degree to match the Tech IB print of George's instead of merely SCANNING THE ACTUAL PRINT ITSELF?

Scanning the actual print itself (like most Blu-rays) would make too much sense. That goes against LFL policy, which has been in place since 1982.

generalfrievious, there's more things to life than Star Wars.

While it would be nice to have the OOT released in good quality, they're just movies, as enjoyable as they are.

You might be right on that. But unfortunately most people born after 1990 don't even know the difference between the OOT and the SE, and do not seem to care about this silent destruction. Most of here are the old guard who are not suckered in to the zeitgeist of the early 21st century, where don't care anymore and are focused on complete garbage.

I don't like the direction this thread is going; this is supposed to be a serious discussion.

Are we part of a losing battle?
Time

This is from the Spike TV topic, but I decided to make a new topic because it was irrelevant there:

I want you all to think hard and long about this. Do you honestly think GL is going to ever repent his ways and release the originals again in any format or any broadcast? Is he going to listen to anyone, in particular some fringe website on the internet few people (less than 500,000) know about? Sorry to say it, but GL has put his boot on our faces for good, and the OOT as we know it will no longer exist outside of bootleg copies. Let's be honest here, there is very little chance that we will see LFL cave in again and release something even among the lines of the GOUT. GL has said the final word on the originals years ago and you cannot admit that. I'm sorry that I have to take a defeatist attitude, but deep down it is the only option left to us. You can go ahead and vent on the internet about this, but you cannot change what has happened. GL has committed a serious cultural crime, I know that, but no matter what you think or do, you cannot alter that fact. The direction of SW over the last 15 years has gotten further and further away from the OOT, and there is no doubt that LFL will be less caring about the OOT in 2025 as they are today.

A very strange selection of character images for the disc art (click to view full size)

Hopefully this is just some fan made rubbish that Amazon have used, but i have a bad feeling it is real.

I bet a hundred dollars that it is real. It's precisely what LFL would release nowadays. Did you expect it to be good?

3D STAR WARS for the masses...has ARRIVED!
Time

CO said:

From what I have read that 3D/HDTV's are not selling well, and I honestly think it is a fad in theaters right now and will be an afterthought in 5-10 years.

I don't blame the movie studios for trying to increase revenue anyway they can, because they are essentially a business that looks at its bottom line.  But this is masking a larger problem in the industry that movies overall just aren't as good as they were 10-20 years ago and they have to try anything get people in the theaters.

I hope 3D stays a fad.

Second, I think Hollywood has entered an irreversible decline and American cinema is dead. It's like all the good movies ended with the 20th century and they studio heads focused on making shlock. Film has become an obsolete medium like drama because no one knows how to make a film anymore. Look at the imdb bottom 100. Most of those films were made less than 10 years ago! Even in the late 90s there used to be a classic film released in the multiplex every week; now it every other year that we see film that can even barely compare with the older classics. The film business sinks to a shockingly low nadir every 30 minutes. There is no point in going on anymore. It will be a matter of time that your local multiplex will be stuffed with so much bullshit that we will start comparing Michael Bay to Orson Welles.

I think further changes are in store for the 3D versions. Lucas will want something new to get people in theaters.

Something I haven't seen people ask: Will this be ONLY in 3D? There's always a 2D option - will that be the case with the Star Wars movies?

Yes, I think it will exclusively be in 3D because GL is a prick. I second the belief that the movies will be changed even more than the Blu-rays.

Is Part 3 of Anything Ever Good?
Time

I guess last crusade was okay, pirates 3 seriously needed some subtitles to make more sense, the matrix revolutions proves we should have taken the blue pill and ignored the Wachowskis, I have never seen Superman III and think the whole superman franchise is hokey, I didn't really like back to the future III, and jedi is relatively good when it comes to threequels. I'm surprised no has mentioned Revenge of the Sith, maybe because it's the PT. And I'm sure transformers: dark of the moon will be tossed around after that comes out, but the last two were typical Bay films: overstylized, noisy garbage.

Thinking on a philosophical point, maybe the reason third installments suck is that the universe is binary (one view and its opposite view), and no human being can conceptualize a third view, so we have to rehash or go off the deep end to in the third installment of a franchise.

I think the problem with spider-man 3 is that the fanboys just had to have venom in there, and the filmmakers put in the sandman even though no one really cared about them, and it created a massive plot hole in the franchise. Plus you have the "dark spider-man" angle that was pushed in the marketing for the movie, and the loose ends with new goblin taking vengeance on spider-man. IMO they should have scrapped sandman, put off venom for another movie, and just focused on spider-man against the new goblin. That would have made a better movie, instead of having to focus on four villains. And I don't even like the spider-man movies anyway.

Brett Ratner tweets about Box Office...

I'm just tired of all these superhero films. I mean we're rebooting Spider-man next year as well? Didn't the first movie get released 9 years ago? Anyways, I only saw the first X-men and I barely remember it. So I'm not interested in this one. If no one can remember the last film not based on a comic book, old movie, or franchise there are problems. That's why I stick with old and foreign movies. At least they can be considered art. I'm guessing this new X-men movie will be considered okay in the long run. I just don't understand why american multiplexes just play crap nowadays with a zillion commercials beforehand. It's just the opening weekend money now.
