And that's all we fucking have, two films. Oh why why why did it have to fall apart so fast into indefensible crap? Now I have swallow the jagged pill of a cliffhanger because of Jedi. The scales were alreasy tipped against us by the time Episode I came out. And come next year we will still only have two films because of the stupid plot twists we will all be but hung about in Episode VII, which will undo everything that happened in Jedi. At least if they just abandoned the movie franchise like they should 30 years ago things would have been much more tolerable.

Reading this guy's posts is like watching Requiem for a Dream set to The Cure's Disintegration whilst eating uncooked generic ravioli straight from the can in the antechamber of a funeral home on a rainy afternoon in late October.

Corporate art is still corporate art. Don't blame me that it has been bigger than ever before in the history of film.

It tickles me how supposed hardcore Star Wars fans like the above fellow enjoy only two movies--hell, very specific versions of two movies--in a franchise spanning nearly four decades. Makes you think.

I beg your pardon! Watch where you're pointing that finger mister!

Alien, Terminator, or Superman anyone?

Movie posters are a lost art nowadays (have there been any good official posters in the last 10 years?), and I doubt we can make them great again. Same with trailers as well.

 You think this about everything.

Not true. He thinks pessimism's greater now than ever before.

Stop it. I'm not a punching bag.

Desist with the Chicken Little antics and we'll stop giving you right hooks. How does that sound?

First, let's stay on topic. I have tried to stay on topic as best I can and I deserve some respect regardless of my antics. I don't think badly on everything in the world.

What I'm saying is that posters nowadays are dominated by corporate art and are lazy most of the time. Struzan is a great poster artist, and I think his work on the SE/PT was a good job, and infinitely better than the DVD artwork that followed years later.

ROTJ is the best Star Wars film... discuss!

I don't remember any toyetic alien races in Empire either.

Nonsense. By that logic ANH with it's cantina is more "toyetic" than Empire.

There are more possibilities for toys in ROTJ because there is more badass stuff in it. More ships, more races, more fun. That doesn't mean they included all those things purely to make toys. The film was just better with those things in.

"Hey George let's not have a speederbike chase in this film. I know it'll be the most thrilling thing in the history of cinema but people 30 years later will be bitching that we only introduced the bikes so we could make toys out of them"

Yeah I like the speederbike chase in Jedi too.

4K restoration on Star Wars

There's a 99.999% chance that's from the official release. If it looked any good at all, it would be a bootleg.

Even if the OOT was not lost and being restored by outside sources, they have to still face Disney's lawyers. That company loves to shout copyright infringement at any possible moment. Remember, they are the masterminds behind the lifetime plus 70 years copyright law in effect today.

I absolutely love Jedi and I think most fans do also.  I think Jedi attracts criticism for certain elements like the Ewoks, but Jedi's iconography is set in stone.  It is an undisputed classic.  As for the best SW movie?  I think a solid case can be made for any of the original trilogy.  They are all great for different reasons.

Everyone knows it's Empire Strikes Back. There's no debate; that is the best film in the franchise.

I just know frevious' slide into pessimism began after receiving a pair of SW pajamas as a gift and then subsequently wetting his bed that very same night.

I never wore SW pajamas, and I never had a bed-wetting problem. The slide into pessimisn really began in 2004 when I learned of the DVD changes , and realizing the the original film elements were being slowly destroyed, mainly by coming to this site.

Okay, can we not do this? I don't care how "butchered" these films have been since 1997, let's not compare some director's editorial ego trip to an inhuman act far more people than you might realize have been subjected to. Call the SEs shitty, call Lucas a jerk, insist you'll only watch some third-hand beta tape of Empire you found in a flea market, but don't be immature and insensitive and compare it to sexual assault, no matter how metaphorical you're being.

Maybe I'd tone it down if it was Howard The Duck or Police Academy that was being destroyed, but the destruction of the OT is like blowing up Mt. Rushmore. So Lucas deserves it, and much worse things I dare not post on this thread.
