He did, for one day after seeing TFA. Then it was back to frevious-as-usual.

The reason I act this way is that Lucas has treated us (the fans) with contempt for thirty years. Our dollars were used to build his mansion, and he gives us bread stuffed with nails (a la Salo) as a token of gratitude. We have gone nearly twenty years without an official release of the real cuts of the OT, and if it wasn’t for the despecialized editions we would never see them again. All because the man has spent most of his life detached from any logical reality, and so he gives an endless parade of bizarre events that just leave me in a state of contant frustration.

Why not watch what you like, ignore what you don’t, and move on?

The bad stuff is still canon. Yes you could ignore it, but it’s still part of the franchise, and in the collective pop culture imagination. You see commercials, people on the street, pop culture references on Star Wars, and no one realizes that most of it is subpar, and has been since the early 1980s.
But with the new movies coming out from Disney, this could be a course correction towards being good again, as long as no one messes it up.

Doesn’t mean you’re forced into taking it into your own personal “canon”, or even having to watch the stuff for that matter. I absolutely hate the prequals, but I don’t own them, watch them, or spend my days thinking about them.

I don’t dwell on the Prequels, it’s Jedi I’m focusing on. I can never reject that film, because it would be an incomplete story without it. Most of the problems people have with that film actually never bothered me that much. I wouldn’t know how bad it really was until I encountered these forums and other online review sites. The message is the same as in the PT: absolutely everything is done wrong, and it makes me hypocritical to ignore the prequels and pass Jedi at the same time.

ROTJ is the best Star Wars film... discuss!
Time

This speculation is pointless; in the end the film is crippled beyond hope. I was an idiot for liking this film, and anyone who says this is the best Star Wars film is just as idiotic as I am. Lucas proved his talent at not only making bad movies by this point, but making the most possibly incompetent whenever possible. Gary Kurtz kept him locked up as long as he could, but Lucas purged him when at the earliest possible moment. Lucas is a sadist; he knew ESB was a flawless masterpiece and did everything in his power to ensure that level of quality would never exist in the franchise again. He erased everything Kasdan wrote in the script for Jedi and tricked people by keeping his name credited. He divorced Marcia and erased her out of history mere weeks after Jedi’s premiere. He picked the most untalented and obedient yes-man to direct the film. He went the extra mile by adding more nonsense and choosing the laziest possible route that existed. You think the Phantom Menace was bad? We were warned for SIXTEEN YEARS that it was going to be the worst thing possible on film, AND THEN he bored an even deeper hole with AOTC so that the bad would outweigh the good permanently. Only now has the franchise climbed back into average at best quality, but we are never going to have a true masterpiece in the Star Wars saga again.

It’s a sad fucking day when you realize that the franchise that you love is an utter mediocrity that has been sucking nonstop for over four decades. Even the OT is no longer the untainted holy trinity we all thought when we were younger, and that’s before the Special Editions arrived. All we have is ONE good sequel, two okay films that just rips off elements from the first two films, and a really horrendous prequel trilogy that chains it all down.

How is Han Solo in ROTJ any better than Qui-Gon Jinn in TPM? Or for that matter, how is Leia better than Queen Amidala? All those two characters do in the end is blow up a shield generator. If anyone saw Jedi without knowing about the previous two films, how would they describe Han and Leia? The answer is that you can’t because they are hollowed out by George Lucas’s hack screenwriting, and nobody can deny this, and that cripples everything!!!

I almost believed you, but you didn’t use enough exclamation points. Maybe 4 or 5 would have done it.

To be fair, Leia killed Jabba the Hutt, which is paralleled by Vader killing the Emperor at the end of the film. I might be wrong, but I feel there is a thematic parallel between Jabba and Palpatine in this movie.

I know it’s a stupid idea, but I just want to like ROTJ again.

But many people online are arguing now that all three prequels are just copying the formula from ROTJ because Lucas saw more dollar signs from that film than from ESB. Compare Jedi with Episode I and you get uncanny resemblances: Gungans are Ewoks, the four-part climax replaces the triple climax, the podrace sequence is a bigger version of the speeder bike chase, the middles of both films grind to a halt, Lucas doubling down on exposition from the last film, and CGI replacing the muppets.

How in the fuck does a franchise go from unable to do anything wrong, to getting absolutely nothing right in the space of two years ?!?!

The Force Awakens: Official Review Thread - ** SPOILERS **
Time

I saw TFA last night, and I thought it was pretty good. Definitely far better than the prequels, although not as great as the original trilogy. But I like how Abrams took elements from the OT and made them into something new, which to be fair, what what the first Star Wars movie did back in '77.
Bottom line, can’t wait for Episode VIII to come out

I refer you to the title of the thread in which you are making that sweeping statement 😉

Well if a franchise peaks after only three years and one sequel, then it isn’t really a good franchise now is it? It’s in the same gutter as Sonic the Hedgehog or The Matrix.

THE WASHINGTON POST – George Lucas: To feel the true force of ‘Star Wars,’ he had to learn to let it go
Time

George Lucas was a bully all along who took away our toys and broke them. He always treated the fan base with contempt and I will never forgive him for making the OT unavailable for almost 20 years now. I wouldn’t be such a pessimistic angry SW fan if he walked away back in the early 90s

Are there any fans of Jedi, that are not under the age of 12?

Yes, probably safe to say that the majority of the members on this site fit that description.

But never in the same way as ANH and ESB. Within the trilogy it will always come in last place, having more in common with the later prequels. This no longer represents the culmination of a great trilogy that was almost beyond mere movies, but the long decline that comes after a brief flash. If the Prequels never existed it would be forgivable, but the PT is such a giant millstone around our necks that it turns everything into ruin. The next three films have to be beyond flawless now just to make the franchise passable again.

It’s still a no win situation in light of TFA. If the new film is good, Jedi loses its bronze medal; if it’s bad, then it will be the forerunner of five bad Star Wars films. My Star Wars fandom has now been reduced to whether or not Jedi is defensible as a film. Ask any film critic, it is an objective failure, and may be inferior to Episode III for fuck’s sake! It may be seen only as a guilty pleasure at best, but it will never be Empire, or any work of art. Star Wars and Empire have fans; Jedi only has defenders. And when a film has defenders and not fans, that is never a good sign.

Video Games - a general discussion thread
Time

I haven’t played any actual video games in almost four years.
The problem is I don’t what system to to get; the Wii U is going to be replaced by the NX in less than a year, and that will belly flop and Nintendo will go out of business. That leaves us with PlayStation and Xbox. I don’t care about Xbox, and I already have a bluray player so buying a ps4 is redundant.
Now the games, I have no idea what to buy/download because really terrible games are getting perfect or near perfect scores based on what franchise they belong to and not the gameplay itself. So the cycle continues and I stare at a blank wall because I have nothing better to do.
Can anyone help me get back into gaming, or is modern gaming just not worth it anymore?
