Changes

S04E02 / Movie Part 1 -

  • cut title card
  • rescored opening to blend well with the traditional crawl and kept it for both versions (episode and movie) as I liked it more than the original score.
  • cut Ezra’s line ā€œno!ā€ when he has his vision but kept the footage
  • cut Zeb saying ā€œWhat is that, clone humour?ā€
  • cut Zeb arguing with Vizago about how many times he’s had a TIE fighter escort.
  • cut the sequence of Chopper making fun of the crew
  • cut fade to black
    • trimmed prior shot so the music could blend together nicely for a smooth transition between shots.
  • cut Ezra complaining about his younger image being used.
    • cut dialogue of Sabines response but kept the shot so she makes them both keep moving.
  • cut Ezra introducing Jai as for this edit, this is when they’re first meeting.
  • cut the death troopers talking in basic and replaced it with their normal sound.
  • cut fade to black
  • trimmed next shot to help audio flow after previous cut
  • cut the death trooper talking basic and replaced it with their normal sound (again for the next shot he spoke)
  • cut Ezra referencing Saw Guerera in the sewers
  • Fixed the Deathtrooper audio again before he enters the sewers
  • slowed the ship down in the last scene of the first episode to give me more footage to wipe to the next episode with.
  • screenshotted and recoloured a sable frame of the Lothal wilderness to use as a wipe destination before the lothcats reappear.
  • cut Ryder and the rest of the gang talking about the ā€œnewā€ TIE defender and that its strong then the one they previously seen as in my edit this ark was cut.
    • as an aside, I’m fine with Mon Mothma having experienced the TIE defender before as she’s a minor character in Rebels but the Ghost crew encountering it should be onscreen. Hence my decision here versus my decision not cutting Mon Mothma’s line earlier.
  • cut Sabine saying ā€œdo you see it now Zeb?ā€
  • cut title card
  • redubbed and drastically cut down the Loth-cat attack on the stormtroopers gag.
  • cut a bunch of needless shots that setup the ad break and trimmed the shot that pans down to Thrawns transport ship for flow reasons.
  • cut ā€œare you crazy?ā€ ā€œDon’t just stand their jump!ā€ from between Ezra and Sabine.
  • cut Ryder and Zeb staying behind to watch the chaos after being ordered to return to base??? no idea why they did this.
  • cut the stormtroopers chasing the loth-cats (why did we even return to this horrible gag!)
  • cut Sabine ā€œrememberingā€ the TIE defender has a killswitch… such a stupid oversight and in this edit she never finds that out… until now of course.
  • cut fade to black
  • cut establishing shot of the fighter crash site
  • Swapped the opening sequence of Kanan and Hera with the next sequence with Pryce informing Thrawn of their progress to better blend the two episodes
  • cut the title crawl
  • cut ā€œI smell itā€ - ā€œYou smell whatā€ - ā€œI smell Lasatā€ exchange and just kept Ruhk sniffing.
  • added in missing sniff sound effects
  • cut ā€œwe’ve checked out this area and we’re reporting, should we continue the searchā€ ā€œnoā€ exchange. too much sniffing not enough action. Ruhk is on a mission and he’s not slowing down even to heighten the tension.
  • cut Ezra ā€œdon’t shoot me, shoot him!ā€ just some needless Ezra sass
  • cut Ruhk calling Ezra a Jedi as in this edit the Empire is far more clueless about their existence.
  • cut Jai asking Ezra if they’re being followed and Ezra’s response…
  • cut Zeb responding to Hera about Ezra and Jai to just cut straight to them.
  • cut Jai asking how many where following them on the speeder and Ezra giving a nonsense answer with ā€œmore than enoughā€
  • cut Ruhk telling Pryce he’s got he base coordinates (we can piece this together from the zoom into the tracker)
  • cut fade to black
  • cut Ruhk and Pryce bickering on the tank
  • cut down Ruhk and Pryce bickering again, now Pryce just takes charge before Ruhk can act.
  • cut fade to black
  • cut ā€œthe empire is bombing the mountains.ā€ yes Ryder, we know that, we can see that!

S04E03 / Movie Part 2 -

  • cut title card
  • trimmed watching the trandosian miner listening to music
  • cut Zeb saying he liked the song
  • cut slapstick action of the captain escaping Zeb
  • drastically cut down the absurd conversation over com with mining guild
    • Use flowframes to double framerate and half speed of some footage to help with the changes made.
  • swapped the footage for the trandosian pirate so Zeb knocks him out immediately after he speaks out and resynced the lines to the new visuals.
  • cut fade to black
  • cut establishing shot of crawler as it’s not needed now that there is no ad break.
  • cut sequence showing the trandosian captain being locked away - it just highlights Sabine and Ezra not listening to Kanan, which is weird at this point in the story.
  • moved Hera’s scene at Yavin 4 forward to fill the whole in the fight choreography made by previous cut.
  • cut establishing shot of Kanan and Zeb with the freed slaves (no longer needed with the Hera scene moved)
  • cut ezra coming out and Vizago feeling betrayed, without the break in the battle it was too awkward to get continuity right instead I took a line from Sabine and put it over for scouting the imperial ships. The next few scenes are pretty cut up and audio was rebuilt until you see the ships out of the scope. I don’t know exactly what I did as it took A LOT of tinkering to get the flow right.
  • cut fade to black
  • cut scenes of the trandosian captain crawler complaining that Vizago took the captains chair
  • cut Ezra saying ā€œall we need is that lizard to start flapping his mouth againā€ and kept the shot of them hiding as much as possible.
  • cut Vizago ā€œgone? I mean seeā€ the empire would be all over him if you said something like that. Just doesn’t make sense.
  • cut the entire subplot with the captain of the crawler escaping.
    • We now cut from the Empire ships taking off to Ryder arriving at the Crawler.
  • cut title card
  • cut Imperial voiced by Filoni questioning Thrawn’s orders.
    • This makes Thrawn much more menacing as a Villain because his troops obey him without question.
    • As an aside, this change felt more needed considering how many higher up imperials actively disobey Thrawn.
  • cut fade to black
  • cut Ruhks response to Thrawn ā€œIt will be done grand admiralā€
  • cut shots of Hera and Ruhk looking at each other and the fade to black for flow purposes.
  • cut title card
  • cut fade to black
  • cut establishing shot of the Lothal mountains immediately after fade to black as it’s not needed now that there is no ad break.
  • cut fade to black
  • trimmed both the shot before and the shot after to achieve a smooth blend between scenes with the ad break gone.
  • added the opening scene from S04e11
    • Reordered the events having Zeb know about Kanan’s death first and moving the Pryce conversation to second.

Movie only changes:

  • Added traditional title crawl
    • used the music from Empire strikes back’s opening
  • reframed literally every shot to best fit the new aspect ratio.
  • reordered scenes from S04e08 to make Hera’s briefing take place sooner and cut out an establishing shot to better blend S04e07 together.
    • cut Ryder questioning if Hera made it, we don’t need that reminder as it’s not the start of a new episode.
  • Added traditional credits
    • used the music from Revenge of the Sith

Episode only changes:

  • cut out the exposition about the transmitter at the start of S04E03 as this is partly covered in the intro text

Hey everyone! Thought I’d post an update as it’s been a week and I haven’t released the movie yet hahaha.

It’s probably a couple days away. I’m going to run it through handbreak overnight and then I’ve got to add the final touches to metadata and upload. So shouldn’t be long now!

As teased in my last post, here is the poster for the movie matching the style as the other artwork I’ve done.

The Upscaling process for the film is now complete. I’ll be doing my final watch through, creating chapter markers, then running the movie through HandBreak to have a manageable file size. After those steps it’ll be uploaded and ready for everyone to see! So in other words, I’m hoping I’ll be able to release it within a week 😃

In preparation I’ve made this poster for the movie! (I’ll make another one that fits the style I’ve used for the rest of the series as well)

Will there be major differences between the movie(s) and episodes?

Major? Not really but there will be differences.

There’s the obvious differences like different aspect ratio, film grain and opening crawl (or intro text) and how the credits are presented (traditional vs concept art). There are also some differences in the middle of the film versus how the second episode starts (just for flow purposes).

For example, the movie cuts from Hera with the TIE defender parts from the end of S04E07: Kindred to her talking with the Rebels in S04E08: Crawler Commandeers. The episode however ends in it’s normal place for S04E07: Kindred and the next episode opens normally with S04E08: Crawler Commandeers which then cuts to the scene with Hera at Yavin later on. This was mostly changed because of the difference of format and has some very slightly different cuts due to differences of things needing to be covered (e.g., I don’t need to emphasise the lack of rebels soldiers in the movie because we haven’t stopped watching, but in the episode it’s better to do this. There’s also some expositions cut from the episode as it was better to cover it in the intro text). But this is the biggest change between the movie and episode variants.

I think the movie is the better way to watch this ark but that’s probably because I’ve spent the time to reframe every single shot for the new aspect ratio hahaha

==> Thank you for the continuous hard work. Always appreciated.

No worries there! I’m just excited to get these cuts out there! They’ve spent a long time cooking that’s for sure.

Heres a comparison shot of the original show vs how the movie edit is looking after my first round of upscaling is complete.

Original:

Movie:

The movie has been reframed to better suit ultrawide resolution to make it feel more filmic, it has been recoloured to give it a more HDR look (same as my regular recolour), upscaled and film grain has been added.

For a better, more direct comparison, see https://imgsli.com/MzQwMzQ3 and as an added bonus https://imgsli.com/MzQwMzUx

With a lighter and darker shot (as seen in the comparison image links above) you should get a good idea of how the grain will look and behave for the film version 😃

Wow! Absolutely loved watching that, looks like super arduous work but it’s really coming together. It’s always great to see behind the scenes. I’d love to update my Clone Wars episode to include the Canon Project’s content when they’re done (fully credited of course) - do you think the team would be willing to permit that? I’d be eager to get in touch if so.

I’ll have a chat with star wars story for you! 😃

g00b,

I sent you a private message yesterday. Can you please respond to my PM?

Hi justinbailey,

I appreciate the enthusiasm behind my work but asking for an updated subtitle file after a couple weeks of getting a sneak peak is a bit much. I can’t possibly work on this project fulltime and I like to share my progress/thoughts/ideas/roadblocks on this forum. You’ll need to wait for the release like everyone else 😃. Progress is a bit slower now that I’m reliant on other people for some voice acting which has meant I’ve taken some focus away from this project (and episode) and shifted myself to other things such as working on Star Wars Story’s Clone Wars Cannon Edition edit. This doesn’t mean I’m not working on this project still or that it’s cancelled, just that progress is a bit slow currently.

Again thanks for your enthusiasm!

Did you finish making the subtitles for the season 4 movie? If yes, can you upload it to terabox?

I’m still polishing them up! However I have at least generated the Subtitles for the entire movie, they’re by no means perfect at all but if you’re interested fire me a PM and I’ll give you access to them 😃

A general update on the project:

I’m still waiting on some Voice Over work for the movie (and two episodes for Season 4). The guy I’ve gotten to help me out unfortunately had his microphone break. He’s since gotten it replaced and I’ll hopefully get those lines sometime soon. For now, I’ve done everything I can without that audio.

Because of this setback, I’ve recently been working on Season 1 some more (continuing with the additional audio and adding more alien language). I’ve rewritten and am currently sourcing voice actors for some rewritten dialogue for TIE pilots in my Empire day episode.

I’ve also begun the process of creating a translation for Tseebo. Although this is not entirely needed as Sabine translates a lot of his lines, by making more characters speak their native tongue, it makes sense to subtitle Tseebo as this is the treatment others are getting. For when I’ve got no context to work from when deciphering his lines, I’m taking the approach of having him give fun facts about Imperial vehicles.
