Will there be major differences between the movie(s) and episodes?

Major? Not really but there will be differences.

There’s the obvious differences like different aspect ratio, film grain and opening crawl (or intro text) and how the credits are presented (traditional vs concept art). There are also some differences in the middle of the film versus how the second episode starts (just for flow purposes).

For example, the movie cuts from Hera with the TIE defender parts from the end of S04E07: Kindred to her talking with the Rebels in S04E08: Crawler Commandeers. The episode however ends in it’s normal place for S04E07: Kindred and the next episode opens normally with S04E08: Crawler Commandeers which then cuts to the scene with Hera at Yavin later on. This was mostly changed because of the difference of format and has some very slightly different cuts due to differences of things needing to be covered (e.g., I don’t need to emphasise the lack of rebels soldiers in the movie because we haven’t stopped watching, but in the episode it’s better to do this. There’s also some expositions cut from the episode as it was better to cover it in the intro text). But this is the biggest change between the movie and episode variants.

I think the movie is the better way to watch this ark but that’s probably because I’ve spent the time to reframe every single shot for the new aspect ratio hahaha

==> Thank you for the continuous hard work. Always appreciated.

No worries there! I’m just excited to get these cuts out there! They’ve spent a long time cooking that’s for sure.

Heres a comparison shot of the original show vs how the movie edit is looking after my first round of upscaling is complete.

Original:

Movie:

The movie has been reframed to better suit ultrawide resolution to make it feel more filmic, it has been recoloured to give it a more HDR look (same as my regular recolour), upscaled and film grain has been added.

For a better, more direct comparison, see https://imgsli.com/MzQwMzQ3 and as an added bonus https://imgsli.com/MzQwMzUx

With a lighter and darker shot (as seen in the comparison image links above) you should get a good idea of how the grain will look and behave for the film version 😃

Wow! Absolutely loved watching that, looks like super arduous work but it’s really coming together. It’s always great to see behind the scenes. I’d love to update my Clone Wars episode to include the Canon Project’s content when they’re done (fully credited of course) - do you think the team would be willing to permit that? I’d be eager to get in touch if so.

I’ll have a chat with star wars story for you! 😃

g00b,

I sent you a private message yesterday. Can you please respond to my PM?

Hi justinbailey,

I appreciate the enthusiasm behind my work but asking for an updated subtitle file after a couple weeks of getting a sneak peak is a bit much. I can’t possibly work on this project fulltime and I like to share my progress/thoughts/ideas/roadblocks on this forum. You’ll need to wait for the release like everyone else 😃. Progress is a bit slower now that I’m reliant on other people for some voice acting which has meant I’ve taken some focus away from this project (and episode) and shifted myself to other things such as working on Star Wars Story’s Clone Wars Cannon Edition edit. This doesn’t mean I’m not working on this project still or that it’s cancelled, just that progress is a bit slow currently.

Again thanks for your enthusiasm!

A general update on the project:

I’m still waiting on some Voice Over work for the movie (and two episodes for Season 4). The guy I’ve gotten to help me out unfortunately had his microphone break. He’s since gotten it replaced and I’ll hopefully get those lines sometime soon. For now, I’ve done everything I can without that audio.

Because of this setback, I’ve recently been working on Season 1 some more (continuing with the additional audio and adding more alien language). I’ve rewritten and am currently sourcing voice actors for some rewritten dialogue for TIE pilots in my Empire day episode.

I’ve also begun the process of creating a translation for Tseebo. Although this is not entirely needed as Sabine translates a lot of his lines, by making more characters speak their native tongue, it makes sense to subtitle Tseebo as this is the treatment others are getting. For when I’ve got no context to work from when deciphering his lines, I’m taking the approach of having him give fun facts about Imperial vehicles.

I’m still waiting on some voice acting and a final watch through before I begin upscaling.

I also need to re-render my opening crawl as I forgot to apply my recolor work to the space background and I don’t want to recolor the text itself.

So, it’ll still be a little bit longer before I’m working on subs and upscaling 😃

^ see above. I have not started upscaling yet 😃

How much is a little bit longer?

It takes me 3-4 days to upscale 50 minutes of footage, I’ve got a 2:08 movie and two episodes around an hour. So the upscaling alone will take me approximately 18 days (4 x 4.5 lots of 50) but that also assumes I don’t have any power outages (living out bush in Australia, those are quite common).

As for how long it’ll take me to get to that step? It really just depends on how much time I get to work on the edit and what I find in my next watch through.

The process of fanediting is very difficult to put a time length for completion on (which is why I tend not to do that and keep it vague). I’m expecting I’ll have a good amount of time to work on this, hence why I’ve said a little bit longer but if something comes up, such as my parental or university duties, this project gets put aside until I can return to it.

So, to directly answer your question, I’m not sure how much a little bit longer is.

g00b, did you finish making the subtitles for your upcoming movie? If yes, can you upload it to your Terabox?

Not yet justinbailey! Subtitles are something I tend to tackle while I upscale my footage. So subtitles and chapters are one of the last things I do in my workflow. Once I’ve made them, I embed them into the video files, run my compression/streaming optimisations and then add the rest of the metadata.

I’ll uploads the subs when I’ve uploaded everything else (or maybe a touch before BC it uploads quickly due to the small file size).

Does upscaling require you to literally leave your computer (or other equipment) on for 1 - 2 weeks consecutively?

If confirmed, that sounds power-intensive.

😮

For me it does but I do it in maximum 50 minute chunks (or the software crashes for some reason) and that’ll take me like 3-4 days. I also don’t have the best PC 😂😂😂 so it could be sped up!

From what I can tell though it doesn’t use too much power (probably because I’ve got it limited so I can keep editing in the background).

I run off solar power and still end up putting energy back into the grid (and get paid) regardless of if I’m upscaling or not 😃
