Can you put the original HDR or non-DV screenshot for a proper comparison.

I’ve reworded the screenshots on the original post to make it clear which is the original screenshot from the show.

I think the saber re-work is a good idea, however, I think the middle bright white is also too bright. I like the increase in red, but I think the central white bright blade is a little too wide. Just my opinion. I do like the renewed colors though

I have noticed this also, there are some shots where it looks just right and other’s where it’s a little too big. For example, in second Marrok screenshot, I’ve already decreased the size of the white inside the blade. In general, I’ve been adjusting it as I go trying to get it feeling right! I’m starting off by basing the white proportions on what is presented in the original footage and I’ll then go back and tweak it once I’ve covered it all for the fight scene. 😃

@goob, are you going to be trimming a lot of someone moments and exposition heavy conversations? I’d say a lot should be cut but it also seems difficult to do so

I’ve definitely thought about it! At this stage I’m just focusing on the Corellia fight scene as this is helping advance my editing skills. That being said, I’m watching (and loving) the show and will likely be making cuts to whatever I decide to release in the end!

It looks like you’ve downloaded the Dolby Vision version, which has muted colours. You need to download a non-DV 4K file. There are plenty out there.

Thanks for that! All my screens have Dolby Vision and I didn’t think the show looked THIS washed out when streaming from Disney+.

I’ll get some new screen shots and update them so everyone can see the real difference.

I think the sky look very blue like that kind of makes me feel like it’s a green/blue screen imho, however the rest of the colors look great and more vibrant

I’ll keep that in mind, I might desaturate the blue a touch. Although the sky was literally that color for me the day I started this edit, so I don’t think the color is unrealistic or anything.

The main reason I’ve gone with the strong light blue is to contrast the red saber and make Ashoka white sabers more visible.

As far as I can tell that’s how the original looks… although it could be a weird HDR thing making it look more washed out on my PC.

It definitely had a bit more color when watching on my TV (but I have that set to boost saturation).

So it may not be the most reliable before? Regardless, my edit still has higher color saturation and levels of contrast then the original.

I’ve thought about cutting the scene where Sabine gets stabbed. Still have the fight but remove that goofy moment and cut to Ashoka finding Sabine injured.

I’ve thought about making a movie cut… still undecided on cuts and rearrangements for now but I’ll see how the whole series goes!

For now though I’m focused on improving the visuals.

What I’m doing:
I’m not sure if this will go anywhere as of yet but while I’ve been watching Ahsoka I felt there has been something missing… color!!! So much of the series has callbacks to the prequels in the way that it’s filmed but the incredible color pallet is missing.

Along with that I’ve noticed some lightsabers don’t look right (the orange ones look unique and great but the other sabers look off)

I’ve had a crack at bringing some much needed life into the Marrok and Ahsoka fight in episode 2 (at this stage I’ve only got 17 seconds of footage). I’ve heard some people criticise it but I feel the choreography is mostly there it just needs some visual impact! That’s why I’ve started at this fight scene.

I’m wanting to get some feedback as I’ve never attempted any visual edits to this degree.

The footage:

Changes So Far:

  • Recolored Corellian Sky to be blue instead of grey.
  • Reworked Marroks Lightsaber
  • Cut Hera Entering Phantom 2.
  • Cut Hera Shot of Hera taking the phantom 2 wheel.
  • Cut Phantom 2 takeoff.
  • Cut third establishing shot of Murrok and his droid
  • Cut shot where droid attacks ashoka first

For those not interested in watching the video here is a before and after shot.

That is very impressive. It would be interesting to hear him speak original lines (that’s when perfecting a voice becomes really difficult because you have nothing to directly imitate)!

RELEASED S01E01 - Spark of Rebellion V4.2

Changes

  • Removed the random blaster sound effects - they were displaced once I added some scenes back in and now that the project is out of stereo sound I no longer need them. (the 5.1 sound has the blaster shots mixed into it’s audio).
  • Further smoothed the audio transition between the Inquisitor and Ezra on the roof.
  • Modified the visual transition between the Inquisitor and Ezra on the roof. Adding extra frames of the eyes, and subtracting some additional frames of Ezra to balance it out more.

I was skimming the new version of episode 1 and I noticed that during the scene where Ezra finds the lightsaber and Kanan and Hera walk in (starting at 15:32) there are random blaster sound effects. I don’t know if it’s just in that one scene but that’s something you should look into.

Also on my first watch through the series I didn’t use the subtitles but while skimming through this and the other episodes I used them noticed almost every sentence started with “>>”. Just for a test I went into one of the SRT files and removed the “>>” from a few sentences to see if it would effect the the timing but it didn’t. All it did was remove them while playing the video. Those symbols are part of the text and really shouldn’t be there.

Another suggestion I have when it comes to subtitles is instead uploading them as a separate files you should merge them into the video. Using MKVToolNix you could easily merge the SRT and MP4 files to make an MKV file and the timing will still be the same. I it did myself because I prefer having singular files and they worked perfectly fine.

Thanks for all the feedback!!

I’ll definitely look into random blaster shots in episode 1… A bit odd but I’ll see what I’ve done for that to happen 😂😂

In terms of subtitles they should display >> when it detects a new character talking. It seemed a lot for work to remove them all manually so I opted to refine and have it more consistent (though, it might only follow that rule in season 2)

I’ve considered merging the subtitles but while I’m still playing around with the series, for my workflow it’s much easier to have them seperated. I may decide to merge them later on!

The Clone Wars: Refocused [COMPLETE] + bonus Quinlan Vos episode by g00b!
Time

I’ve checked again on google drive and the audio desync is there (incase it was just my download). Check 10:22 to 10:32 as this is where it’s more noticeable. The audio might only be a frame or two off. Hera’s and Kanan’s mouth will start moving before the audio comes through. Hope this helps!

I’ve gotten about 10 minutes into Fulcrum of the force and the audio seems to be out of sync. Not sure if that continues the whole way through. I quickly jumped to 52 minutes and the audio seem in sync there so not sure what’s happened (could just be the scenes around 10minutes). Thought I’d let you know! Loving what you’ve done so far, the opening was very clever. Once I’ve watched the whole thing I’ll give more feedback. 😃

New intro for episode 1 got a million times better, nice!

However the transition from the Ginquisitor to Ezra on the rooftops (2:25) is still a little off-putting, and I’m guessing it’s because of the audio - goes too quickly from the ominous soundtrack to the casual stormtroopers on the radio. Maybe if you’d “slowmo” the Ginquisitor’s face just for a couple seconds while the music finds its pace to go a little quieter?

I’ll have another play with the audio blending here. Not sure I’ll be able to get it nicer but if I can I’ll put the update through. Not sure if it’ll look right to slowmo the Inquisitors face but I’ll keep experimenting. Thanks for the suggestions PsyGemini! 😄

It could get a little ugly, but your best bet may be to mix and match her different lines. That could also get disjointed based on the tone and inflection of her voice.

Here is a line from S1, Ep. 15:

“Maybe this mission doesn’t make military sense. But Kanan is family. And we’ve all lost enough family to the Empire. So rescuing him makes sense to me. I’m not ordering you, any of you, to come along. But you need to decide now. In or out?”

You could find her mentioning Fulcrum elsewhere and get a line like this: “Fulcrum is ordering you to come along this mission. In or out?”

I’ve experimented with making new lines from existing ones before and honestly I don’t think it works to well. For now, I’ll keep an eye out for any bridging scenes that could be inserted and/or hope someone who reads the forum could give me an AI generated line I could use haha.
