I’ve got a new plan of action currently. Although I haven’t finished the full 4K release I’ve noticed some fundamental mistakes in how I’ve prepared the Rebels episodes to be edited. These mistakes have resulted in a lower quality visuals then the show (by a small amount but once you notice, you can’t unnoticed it) and stereo audio. (Until a DM I honestly thought Rebels wasn’t in 5.1, so time to fix that!)

To fix this I’m going to create a V4 of this show. I’m hoping this version will become the most complete form of the edit. I’ve also gotten some DMs asking about the differences in versions. Because I haven’t been to on top of posting my full changes, I’ll be trying to change that now and begin posting here with every new episode release with it’s changes from the previous episode.

If I’m going back to reedit the show (again!) what should you expect?

• 5.1 surround sound.
• Small file sizes with no visual or audio downgrade.
• 3 Download options - 1080p, 1080p recolor and 4K recolor. (no need for compressed or uncompressed)
• Revamped intro cards including the new helmet sequence, further polish on intro text (if required) and an episode name card (not sure why I never put this in).
• Much smoother transitions between cuts (by editing in 5.1 I’ve given myself more flexibility in audio smoothing). My goal here is to make it so you don’t know anything has been cut!
• Adjustments and fixes to end credits (if required).
• Realigned subtitles (for the completed subtitles) and new subtitles (for the uncompleted subtitles).
• A new 4K version which should be of a higher visual quality.

I’m pretty excited for these changes! If you have any further suggestions please give them to me! I want to make this edit the best version of the show possible and a complete experience to watch through! 😄

Random thought, but I actually like Maul being included other than his eyes. Something about them is too… ghostly I guess? I’d say try a shot with him as the only “real” face if the spooky eyes can be unspooky’d.

Thematically, I’d point out Eddie’s small edit of rebels to tie up Mauls story, plus George wanting Maul to the the big bad of his sequel trilogy, as to why Maul deserves to be in the lineup.

Jedit: oh, as for quality itself. If you told me it was the new faces sequence for new animated show whichever on D+, I’d believe it.

I’ve had a bit of a play around but I can’t get maul to look right. I think I’m quite happy with the sequence as it is now!

Alright! I really think we’re getting somewhere with this sequence. I’ve removed the faces and I like it better. More feedback would be great! 😄

I love the concept, but I’m not sure the regular heads are working well - the metallic sheen from the lights makes them a bit too uncanny valley for my tastes on Maul and Ahsoka. It’d be neat to work in some of Ezra’s helmet collection in there, but I imagine that’d be a ton of effort

I wasn’t 100% on the real heads, I’ll make another version without them and see if that’s better hahaha.

I like what you did, but I found it too dark and hard to see them. I think making it but brighter for those with poor vision like me would help.

Up until season 2 of the edit now has 4K recolor options available and subtitles (and a third layer of polish!). Really happy with progress so far! 😄

I wonder if for Chapter 21 if it could be edited to make Carson holocall instead of travel to coruscant.

With him planet hoping back and forth it kind of removes tension because Nevarro would have been completely destroyed in that time.

It wouldn’t be perfect because he still travels to Mando and Mando then to Nevarro but it would be better in my opinion.

Not sure if it’s possible with the shots you’ve got to work with but thought it was worth putting the idea out there.

I’ve got a more complete version uploaded now with all Twilight of the Apprentice lines changed.

I think deeper sounding voices come across as more ominous.

I definitely could, although I don’t think that necessarily fits Kreia from KOTOR2.

I’ll see what other think about this because it’s an option 😃

I’ve been experimenting some more to see if I could change the voice of the Sith Holocron further, originally for the edit I just deepened the audio which made it sound less like Ventress but now I’m experimenting with AI to get Kreia from KOTOR 2 to be the voice.

Thanks for the feedback JackNapier! Initially I wasn’t sure if sith eyes “fade” in (for lack of a better word) so I thought it’d be more dramatic if it was sudden but after reviewing Anakin v Obi-Wan in revenge of the sith there is a transition where this kicks in.

In light of me finding that out, I’ll do some further work to make the eyes transition instead of blink to change! 😃

I’ve always enjoyed Rebels and never had big problems with the “childish” nature of some shows or in Star Wars. Although, there are a few moments I think rebels suffers because of how it handles some situations and with some of it’s filler and Cameos.

I hope you enjoy what I’ve done!
