Episode VIII : The Last Jedi - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *
Time

It’s becoming increasingly apparent that the sequel trilogy will end up being nothing but a rehash of the OT, imitating the visual elements and story which is a great shame. I wanted new stories to be told, to have new experiences, make new discovries about the Force, instead Disney has chosen to play it safe and retell the same story we’ve seen lots of times before. I still can’t believe TFA has received so much praise as it’s nothing but a remake of the first SW movie. Say what you will about the prequels, but at least Lucas tried to do something different.

Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire soundtrack
Time

I found the complete soundtrack available on Youtube and gave it a listen. Amazing score by Joel McNeely IMO, though I read McNeely himself wasn’t happy with the end product and that it’s one of his least favourite works. Myself I disagree, I think it’s a pretty strong score and it’s a real shame the music is now part of the Legends continuity, and I would love McNeely to do more SW music.

Any other fans here?

STAR WARS: REBELS (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread
Time

My take on the Bendu: I didn’t really like the character as he pretty much ended up being another one of those “neutral” characters who only help the good guys. He called himself the One in the Middle, either meaning he didn’t draw from the light or the dark OR he used aspects of both, which makes him a bit of a hypocrite. I would have loved to see him interact with Maul but when the opportunity presented itself he disappeared.

IMO Season 3 has been the best season of Rebels so far. I’m disappointed Ezra’s dabbling with the dark side storyline was dropped as soon as it began, but it’s a kid’s show I guess, I really liked Ezra’s darker persona. Sabine finally lived up to to her status as a Mandalorian, and we got lots of Mandalorian content which is awesome (don’t know why everyone here is so dismissive of Mandalorians) and it looks like we’re about to get a lot more Mandalorian content which really has me pumped up for next season. I think the best way to end SWR is by having Ezra and Kanan sacrifice themselves thus lending credence to Yoda’s statement that Luke is the last Jedi.

Rogue One * Spoilers * Thread
Time

Finally saw Rogue One. I enjoyed it way more than I expected and way more than TFA (seriously, f*ck J.J. Abrams). My expectations were pretty low after the sour taste in my mouth left by TFA, plus the fact that this movie was directed by Gareth Edwards whose 2014 Godzilla I hate, but once the credits started rolling I felt something I never expected which was feeling pumped about the first Star Wars movie. Almost everything worked flawlessly, the pacing, the music, the story, the characters… it all just clicked. This is hands down the best SW since the OT.

Hey Dreamster, as much as I like this grading I really don’t like the sharpening, it looks unnatural. Could you please ditch it?

There was no sharpening applied the shots of the Cloud City platform. I didn’t like it either, and though it might sound arrogant, I thought it might be easier for someone who wants to tackle a multipass regrade to start from mine so I also left it out to keep it more “pure”.

Good to know. I guess your regrade of the Grinshouse will be the best version of TESB until we get poita’s restoration.

😃 I did some regrading for fun (I’m not a professional), trying to match a frame from Leia’s kiss scene to this frame from jedi1.net:

I think it doesn’t look too bad, but I don’t know if it’s consistent as well: I’d like to see what it would look like with DrDre’s tool.

Personally I like this warmer regrade. Would like to see Dr. Dre’s take on this.
