So the movie premiered on HBO last night, and I tuned in and cranked up the colour saturation to its maximum, and even though it’s just a minor detail, the viewing experience was a much improved one for me.

Seriously, this movie looks waaaaayyy better with boosted colours.

Yeah, the extremely desaturated dead-looking color grading is probably one of my biggest problems with the movie (along with the pointless spaceship montages). I don’t get why “real is brown” has become such a big thing with sci-fi and fantasy: pretty much the only modern show of that genre that actually looks alive is The Expanse (and even then it only looks half-alive).

Has it? BR 2049 is pretty colorful, depending where they are of course. But yeah, color grading is one thing that can really put me off even though a movie was good. If I see even a glimpse of a movie/TV show with teal/orange thing going on, not going to watch it.

The orange/teal colour contrast has given way to most movies having a yellow tint in recent years.

George Miller commented on this when making Mad Max: Fury Road, saying he deliberately went against the trend of sci-fi and post-apocalyptic movies having drab, muted colours by making his latest entry in the Mad Max series as colourful as possible.

I don’t have anything wrong with hiring diverse people, it’s woke people I don’t like, and there’s a very big difference. Even then, it’s only a dealbreaker if it actually seeps into the content itself, which like I said is unlikely.

Apologies in advance for veering off-topic, but what does woke mean?

Over the past three years I’ve heard the word bandied about, but I don’t know what it means.

I remember watching a RedLetterMedia Plinkett video where Stoklasa argued in favour of Ghostbusters 2, saying that the Ghostbusters are not meant to be action heroes, just average schlubs who happen to be the right guys to get the job done, and that people missed the point of Ghostbusters 2.

Original Thrawn i don’t like Disney Thrawn. Even when being written by Zahn. Because he was only interesting in contrast to Mara Jade and Post ROTJ heroic Luke Skywalker. And Talon Karrde. Kind of boring on his own.

Apart from a hatred of Star Wars Rebels in general, I was particularly incensed by how Thrawn was outsmarted by some whiny kid in the series finale.

Finally watched Wonder Woman 1984.

Frankly I found it to be way better than the negative word-of-mouth, although I do agree with the criticism of Diana hijacking some random guy’s body and using it for her own selfish wish to be with Steve once again, that doesn’t fly in today’s world. Another thing I found hard to believe is that Kristen Wiig, or at least someone who looks like her, would go unnoticed, and I am also tired of the Hollywood cliché of spectacles somehow making a person unattractive.

Overall I enjoyed it.

I watched Cry Macho. It was just okay. It wasn’t anything grand and it is far from Eastwood’s best. But i couldn’t hate it because he is such a legend.

But it wasn’t a tenth as good as The Mule, or Gran Torino.

I also watched both versions of Dune. The 2021 was very good and it ended just as things got interesting. But it was all setup. The 1984 was bizarre, wooden acting/ no charisma for Paul Atreides. It was like two separate movies jumbled together. Still would like to see the version the director wanted. I noticed Chani was played by Sean Young, but if i blinked i wouldn’t have noticed her because she is barely in the movie.

I did notice something i never noticed before though that Paul Atreides was ripped off for Anakin Skywalker, its even more apparent reading the novel. Especially the prequel version of Anakin being the chosen one/savior.

I find myself enjoying the 1984 adaptation more than the 2021 adaptation because David Lynch embraced the book’s weirdness, whilst Villeneuve removed any trace of it and made a half movie palatable for mainstream audiences.

At this point I feel like I will never see the Dune adaptation I envision unless I make it myself.

They still haven’t gotten a Dune movie right in my opinion. There’s action in it, but I think of it more as a drama. I thought Villeneuve split the book into two movies so he could include more dramatic scenes from the book, but he didn’t really. It’s a gorgeous movie and I love the soundtrack, but I expected more. I think Star Wars still has influence over what people think a “space movie” should be like.

At this point I feel like I will never see the Dune adaptation I envision unless I make it myself.

Sorry for the bump, but thought it worth mentioning ‘Prince Xizor is Canon Again!’:

He was mentioned in the recent Crimson Reign comic by Charles Soule.

At this point they may as well make ‘Legends’ the old EU again! More Black Sun is very welcome too.

I’m pretty sure that, in accordance with Disney’s chastity policy, Xizor has been metaphorically neutered. In his original Legends incarnation, Xizor was quite the horndog.

Why am I so bad at relationships? Like, seriously, I’m 22 and I haven’t even managed to get a kiss? What’s wrong with me? It’s not like I don’t try. I’m not lacking confidence either.

For the longest time it bothered me as well, but after years of self-reflection I realized that deep down all I really want is a purely physical relationship, and now I’m at peace with it.

Finally saw James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.

I found it to be basically the same movie as the previous one, with Idris Elba filling in for Will Smith. I enjoyed both movies in equal measure, and the funny thing is that the first one was box office hit that received negative reviews, and the second one flopped financially and received rave reviews.

I really hope Ayer’s original intended cut if Suicide Squad is eventually released.

I felt the shared history between Maul and Obi-Wan was wrapped up when Maul killed Satine in front of Obi-Wan. For me there was no more to it. When introduced in Rebels, all Maul has left is his hatred for Darth Sidious. He says as much to Ezra.

So while everyone was hyped up about the rematch in Rebels, I was annoyed.

I agree with Darth Malgus on Filoni and TCW. I don’t like Filoni’s approach because he plays it way too safe, and I also don’t understand why everywhere you look TCW is revered as one of the greatest TV series of all time. It’s just a TV show to pass the time, and finally I am also tired of Ahsoka being shoehorned into every last bit of expanded material.
