The Book Of Boba Fett (live action series) - a general discussion thread - * SPOILERS *
Time

OK, just finished bingeing the show.

Frankly I don’t feel any particular way about it in general, although I did appreciate specific parts, such as when Boba Fett and the Tuskens assault the spice train, which obviously borrowed from Westerns and Lawrence of Arabia, the Night of a thousand tears in Mandalore which was reminiscent of the Terminator movies. The episode I enjoyed the most was the fifth one, because as I posted earlier, I’m a sucker for Mandalorian lore.

Bringing Grogu back so soon felt so forced, and I felt total indifference towards Luke. All this constant regurgitation of established SW stuff has rendered me numb, and I really wish Filoni took some creative chances and stopped appealing to nostalgia and callbacks.

Did Lucas forget that Obi Wan served Bail Organa in the Clone Wars ?
Time

Now that you guys are touching upon it, that is one thing that has been bothering me for the past two decades, the characterisation of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the PT.

In TESB, Yoda says he won’t train Luke because he’s too impatient and reckless, at which point Obi-Wan retorts “Was I any different?”. Lucas contradicted this when making the PT, as throughout the PT Obi-Wan is portrayed as a very observant, by-the-book Jedi who never questions the will of the Council, and I suspect that Lucas got the roles mixed up, as Qui-Gon is the one with the rebellious streak Yoda spoke of. When Obi-Wan insisted on training Anakin because of his promise to Qui-Gon, Yoda says he senses Qui-Gon’s defiance in him. Really?

[fill in the blank] Just Died!
Time

I remember watching an interview with Douglas Trumbull where he was asked why he didn’t work on Star Wars, and his reply was that he found the movie far too fantastical for his taste, and so George Lucas approached Trumbull’s father instead who happily obliged. The interviewer then asked him if he had any regrets on passing up the chance to work on Star Wars considering how big it got, and he said not at all because he prefers working on more cerebral movies.

New poster for the series. Reminds me of one we got towards the end of Mando season 2, although I like this one more.

Good to see Luke finally showing up in some marketing.

They perfectly captured the look and feel of a Western movie poster from the 1960s.

They could have side stepped this entire problem if they just kept him as a bounty hunter who is now working for the new republic, bringing in the galaxy’s worst criminals. That way he can be a likeable protagonist who is also a morally grey badass.

I love this idea. Boba Fett would essentially be doing the New Republic’s dirty work, venturing into places deemed too dangerous for Republic patrols.

I gotta say: I’m really starting to hate the spice arc in the boba show. It rips off dune, for starters (which starwars already does too much as is). Also it makes Tattooine more important than it should be. What made Tattooine cool before is that it was a backwater world. The biggest thing tho is that why would boba, a crime lord, want to stop CRIME?

Arrakis may be a barren desert planet, but it’s made explicitly clear why it’s so important to the Imperium from the get-go. Tatooine on the other hand, has absolutely nothing of importance yet the people in charge of the storytelling are weirdly fixated on Tatooine.

A few online articles have been popping up criticising the writers’ insistence on revisiting Tatooine, as it makes SW very small despite its setting being an entire galaxy.

I think Dave Filoni’s work on Clone Wars, Rebels and Mandalorian season 1 is generally great. Either Jon Favreau or massive fan expectations or both have been a bad influence on him.

I find The Clone Wars to be the sort of series one watches to pass the time, nowhere near the TV masterpiece everyone is making it to be, and I absolutely despise Rebels.

Seriously, I don’t get why Filoni is so highly regarded.

The movie’s soundtrack is an underrated gem of late 1990s music.

I actually haven’t seen the movie yet but I’ve heard the opening credits theme, and I think it’s simply amazing. David Arnold did a fantastic job.

Just a heads-up. I wasn’t talking about David Arnold’s score, but the soundtrack which includes tracks from Foo Fighters, Silverchair and Ben Folds Five. Just making sure there’s no confusion.

The movie Children of Men is praised as a masterpiece of the 21st century, but I’ve watched and rewatched the movie several times and it frankly does nothing for me. I am as apathetic towards the movie as Clive Owen’s character is to the world around him in the early parts of the movie.

Seriously, the reverence for this movie still eludes me after fifteen years.

I actually enjoyed the 1998 Godzilla despite all of its flaws.

Same here. I still enjoy the movie whenever I catch it on TV and even feel the hate it gets is blown out of proportion. The movie’s soundtrack is an underrated gem of late 1990s music.

I suspect they made a mistake by titling the movie “Godzilla”. Had it been called something else it would have fared better.
