Really? I feel like you’re the first to say that, most people seem to agree it was the weakest part of the film.

If nothing else, the “riding the CGI animals” stuff was prequel-level awful.

Well I feel like a terrible person then, as I loved how enthusiastic Rose was during that. shrug I guess I was just hooked into the arc of the Resistance’s survival more than I was the Rey/Kylo arc was (until the end of the movie, where it just felt like there was no real payoff for the Resistance’s actions.)

Just got around to seeing it today. I’ll save an in depth review/analysis for after I’ve seen it another time or two, but count me in the group of those pretty disappointed in it. Which honestly makes me sad because I expected to enjoy it greatly and loved TFA.

This I believe was the longest SW film to date, and it really shouldn’t have been. There’s a lot I would’ve cut. (Most of the third act I would have cut altogether or saved for IX).

Just got back from seeing it too.

I have a lot of moments I loved in it (Luke tossing the lightsaber, almost everything on the casino planet, the subversion of the redemption/temptation arcs, the way that they compromise between people wanting to see Luke be Bad-ass and those who didn’t want him to be made into a prequel joke) but man did I feel the Jedi arc and Resistance arc didn’t flow nicely. It had segue scenes, yes, but they felt like two different movies put into one all the same. Also, while I didn’t really get pulled into the Jedi arc at first, it had pay-off, unlike the resistance half, wherein it felt like nothing had any real pay-off.

Ending fatigue was another big one. I swear, there were at least two other points before the actual ending that the film could’ve ended on. Personally, I’d have probably ended the film when the jump to lightspeed to cut everyone in half trick was used.

Random Thoughts

Mildly annoyed with my Dad. We got some guitars from my late grandfather, and he wants to sell the Stratocaster. Ok sure, his decision. However, I tune it to see if I have the same problems with it he does (the bridge being to high up and not sitting flush) when I overtighten the first string and break it, and notice that the bridge lies more flush now.

I brought up my suspicions that perhaps that the bridge problems he had might be because the strings are too tight on it (though I said overtuned) And he said that couldn’t be the case because he used an electric tuner. Well it’s tuned right, why is the bridge practically being pulled out of its socket?

I have not. I’m still in Fall Year 1, and I’ve heard from various people online not to necessarily bother with it in Year 1 because I’d have a hard time making/acquiring things they “love” and/or giving it to them by their birthday. I think I’m gonna court Abigail. She has a Super NES in her room.

But for right now I’ve been focusing on making berry jelly. I read online that a good source of income in Year 1 is Blueberry Jelly in the Summer, and Cranberry Jelly in the Fall (and to buy seeds in Year 1 for Strawberry Jelly in Spring starting in Year 2).

All of my tools are upgraded to gold; and just last night I got to the bottom of the mine.

JEDIT: Apparently that was a joke? But I don’t seem to get it.

I courted Abigail as well. She’s not super difficult to court. Get a bunch of quartz (technically amethyst will be better received, but quartz has the funny dialogue) which isn’t difficult to extract from the mines. Pumpkin in the fall (as well as when her birthday is) and just talk to her regularly. I managed to wed her by the beginning of Winter year 1.

Also, they need to start injecting something else than nostalgia very soon into their Star Wars, or the brand will go stale. Same reason for why they tolerate MCU movies that are not massive successes on their own.

I can get behind the idea that they need some new blood in Star Wars. I’m just surprised they took him on for an entire trilogy, rather than a one off.

Came to this through the index thread.

"Lucas: Well, he is a teacher, not a real Jedi. Understand that?

Kasdan: I understand what you’re saying, but I can’t believe it; I am in shock."

THis made me laugh for some reason

As I see it, the idea was that Yoda and Palpatine are “masters” while Vader and Obi-Wan are “knights”. “Knights” use lightsabers and tend to join the action while “masters” prefer giving orders and don’t need lightsabers because they can use The Force itself.

Kind of like a Feudal Lord and their vassals?

Just saw a trailer during the World Series. Great shot of Luke stepping into the cockpit of the Falcon.

It’s now up on the Star Wars youtube channel too:-

‘The Last Jedi : Awake’…

😃

Nice trailer. Since I have a compulsion, here’s the Luke and Falcon shot made to look more like it did in the olden days:

I feel like I’m the only person who doesn’t want Luke to get into lightsaber duels. I don’t know, but it feels unlike how I see his character evolving since RotJ.

I’m with you, actually. It’s about time the franchise returned the Jedi master to what it should be – an enlightened sage evolved beyond the need for physical weapons.

Still, if Luke has to use a lightsaber, I’d prefer it come in #FF0000.

Oh, definitely. The blue one is Rey’s now, let Luke use the green one. I wouldn’t mind seeing it for sparring practice, or something like that, but yeah. Luke is the mentor now, not the protagonist. He doesn’t need to kick butt; that’s what Rey’s for.

I thought he already did. 😛

He might’ve, but I think there was more they could do. Like I’d feel some of the more questionable scenes involving Yoda might work better if they were done by the zealous warhawk instead of the 900 year old muppet. “War does not make one great,” would become Yoda alluding to Windu, rather than a slightly hypocritical statement (though a more visible realization that Yoda was played like a fiddle for following with the war might make it less disjointed, and character development instead of hypocrisy.)

There’s a couple things from the Revenge of the Sith Novelization that really should be in the film, as they seem important to understanding Anakin’s motivations. (Really the whole film probably should’ve used a condensed version of the novel as its starting point, but I digress)

First, is a minor mission to a dying star, which utterly shocked Anakin to the core, and ate at him forever since then. What would he do without Obi-Wan or Padme? What would they do without him?

The second one is the entire reason he got so angry over not being granted the title of Master. Basically, he was trying to see if there was something regarding using the Force to prolong life. However, that part of the Jedi archives was locked off to the Jedi Masters, and his situation wasn’t really one he could talk to them about. So Palpatine appointing him to be his representative was seen to be his was into the title of Master, and thus into the archives. Except Mace Windu said that Anakin merely had a seat, not the title.

Also, Make Mace Windu into more of an obvious antagonist for the rest of the films. He’d represent the most strict and repressive interpretations of the Jedi ways, a clearer sign of how far the Jedi had fallen by the era of the Prequels.
