Dayv, I could meet up with you and provide an escort, I'd bet we get to his city in less then 45 mins. Shouldn't be a problem.

What were your original expectations for the PT?

So, what is being said is that the Holiday special is worse than the PT. This holiday special must be very bad if the PT is unwatchable.

It is absolutely god awful. I know what you're thinking, "eh, those guys are just being sarcastic, I think I'll go ahead and watch it." Please, for the love of all that is holy, DO NOT WATCH IT!!!

Who cares, people need to get over this politically correct phase. It is getting old not being able to say anything without SOMEBODY being offended or "not comfortable". I'm a yankee capitalist pig redneck, the french are frogs, germans are krauts, welsh are sheepshaggers, and brits are red coats, Jpanese are japs, and nobody got hurt cause I typed that.

The Go-Mer-Tonic™ Thread - Today's Topic: Whose your favorite author and why?

Well, the way I look at it is this. If there is a Creator and I live my life accordingly then I will be blessed with a wonderful eternity. If there is not a Creator and we are just great big cosmic mistake, then I'll be dead after living a good life. So why does it upset some folks that I believe in a God and choose to live a good life? This I'll never understand.

Yea, the multiple Darths throughout the PT did get kinda lame and it's almost as if it was there just so Lucas could conveniently work his way From Darth Maul and Darth Sidious (and the backstory of Darth Bane) in TPM to Darth Tyrannus in AOTC to the backstory of Darth Plaguis to Anakin being dubbed Darth Vader by the emperor in ROTS. Correct me if I'm wrong, but whether or not it was implied that Vader wasn't the only Darth, he was the only Darth we knew about until TPM was made. I didn't like finding out that the Emperor was also a Darth. There was one Darth too many in TPM.

Yeah, Darth now seems lke such a "meh" title since Lucas overused the living hell out of it.

I hope not!

...To get back onto the subject, I would have liked to see Anakin be more of a Hamlet/MacBeth-like character... Someone who is complicated, and in the end, finds that they are their own pending doom...

Also, I wish that Darth Maul was a charater that was more explored. By this I mean that I wish he spoke more, and had more depth (much like Vader).

Yeah I also think Maul should have played the main bad guy throughout the PT, at least well into the second or to the first of the third.

A Heart-Warming Message from the RIAA

Until the RIAA demonstrably proves to me that they are trying to increasing my sales as an independent artist, I will never buy into their rhetoric. The recording industry has done dick for my music. By killing Napster and the file-sharing community, they have decimated one of the best chances I have had to increase underground interest in my music. Corporate radio sure as hell isn't an outlet for discovering talent anymore, and Karaoke and country line dancing have killed live music dead in the small clubs and bars.

I hate the RIAA (and to a lesser extent the MPAA) because of their unwillingness to embrace new technologies and develop a proper way to monetize them. To the RIAA: You are killing my livelihood.

To the MPAA: Your FBI logos in front of my store-bought DVDs are doing absolutely, positively nothing to curb pirates AND they're pissing me off because I, who paid good money, can't skip past the annoying messages every time I put the damn DVD in the player. Hell, even VHS let us fast-forward. And with regards to my fan-editing projects, if you'd develop a reasonable royalty calculation method by which I (or downloaders) could pay for distributing fan-edits the way I do to all musicians when I cover their material, then you'd stand to make money off of my hobby. As it stands, neither of us do. Because I will not capitalize on what you won't allow in the first place, even though the market shows there is a demand.

I am also a musician and I hate the RIAA with a passion.

Star Trek movie

Also Ferris, I am not sure how merrit I would give to this because it has the blessing of Shatner and Nimoy, have you seen them in any good priceline commercials lately?? Or any of the books they have written? Not the highest standards. Oh well. Anyway, yeah, I have a hard time imagining anybody else playing those to characters. This isn't like Superman or Batman or Bond who have been played by countless (yes, I exaggerate) different actors. As far as I have always been concerned Shatner IS James T. Kirk and Nimoy IS Spock. Any other actor playing them just isn't them. Just like any other actor playing Luke or Han just wouldn't be right. A reboot of the series I ldo like the idea, but this is still in a way be a prequel as it is about Kirk and Spocks past.

What I think would have been really cool for a reboot of the series would have been to go with Captain Christopher Pike. He is already an established character, but so little is known about him it doesn't matter. They could do pretty much anything they wanted with him. He doesn't even have a reputation as a Captain (i.e. Kirk being a flirtatious sleaze, or Capt. "I am going to go listen to some Mozart, read some Charles Dickens, and sip some Earl Grey tea" Picard) so they could still develope his character as they wanted. And whatever actor you get to play him would fit because there isn't a set standard to live up to. Even inventing a new capt. and crew could be interesting.

If they are truly trying to appeal to a wider audience as they claim, then why use old favorites when they won't be the old favorites of that wider audience? Star Trek fans are going to go see this one way or another, so you know it is not for their sake. Most ST fan will probably hate the new actors portraying these legendary characters anyway, so even more evidence it is not for their benefit.

Yeah, you made some extremely valid points. I also love your Capt Pike idea. Maybe we ought to see if the Star Trek folks will listen us, since it is obvious Lucas Film will not.
